Frank Thomas Released By The Blue Jays/signed by the A's
StrangeSox replied to BlizzardOfOzzie's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) Well if its about last year, Frank hit .223 in April and May combined, so wouldn't it be the correct decison to sit him down until he starts to hit? That's a nice Catch-22. If you're not hitting well, you can't play until you're hitting well. -
I just got a new Sony LCD this weekend and I'm upgrading the cable to HD. What package do I need to get CSN HD and ESPN HD so that I can catch all of the Sox games?

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) And tell me how is this germane to the FLDS story. The FLDS actively covered up abuse of abuse of children. The Catholic Church actively covered up sexual abuse of children. Seems related to me

We may get to see Frank in the Chicagoland area again! http://blogs.suburbanchicagonews.com/naper...-with-joli.html QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 08:58 AM) Why is it dishonest? If Frank didn't want to be subject to it, he could have refused to sign the contract, not received his $9.2 million bonus before he ever played a game for the franchise and went to play somewhere else. The bottom line is Frank didn't have any other team offering him $18.2 million for 2007 and 2008 let alone a $10 million option. Once again, I ask, if Jose Contreras had a clause the vested a $10 million option next year and needed 80 IP, if KW cut him before he reached it, would you think it was wrong? Baseball is a business. If Frank were hitting better, the Blue Jays wouldn't have any excuses to cut him. He's about to turn 40, he's not the hitter he once was, and the scouting reports on him from an article I read were not good. Of course they never are when you are slumping, but 40 year olds slumping is a different animal from a 30 year old or even a 35 year old slumping. The bottom line is that it doesn't matter what anyone else did or didn't offer Frank. The Toronto Blue Jays signed a contract with the 10M option. Now, they wanted to bench/ cut him before that option could become a reality. Why include the option in the first place if you never intend to honor it? Seems dishonest to me. They lured him in with that option and then tore up the contract when it came time to deal with it. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 07:40 AM) Some players are actually worth more not playing than playing. Toby Hall for one. The thing about Frank is, it isn't about the playing time, trying to earn his money. Its about the money. If the option had already vested or Toronto said they would pick it up anyway, do you really think he would have made such a scene, and not even shook hands with his teammates after a victory? Frank's been banking on that $10 million. Now if he needs $10 million, he's going to have to play beyond 2009. If they didn't want that clause in the contract, they shouldn't have agreed to it. Signing a contract and then cutting him so they don't have to worry about fulfilling it is dishonest and may hurt them in the FA market down the road. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 06:39 AM) I saw where Hillary linked Obama to Osama in a campaign commercial apparently? This primary cycle has been the perfect storm for the GOP. They came in a heaby underdog because of George Bush, they had an early winner in their primary, and sat on the sidelines while the Democrats have tried to do everything to destroy their own chances at winning in November. I just can't believe the things that have been said and done by people in their own party. All the GOP will have to do is step into void, instead of getting ugly, because the Dems did all of the dirty work for them. I really hope to see Hillary win PA by double digits just to keep this quagmire going into the convention. They really managed to kill ANY momentum and positive feelings behind the Democratic campaign. I would not be surprised with a McCain win in November. Three months ago I would have thought that idea was crazy.

QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) I'm not sure, but i think historically, May has been Paulie's worst month for hitting. So we'll see how long his 171 avg will hold off from "killing" our team. I don't think hes killing our team, but weakly hit ground balls to the short stop drive me insane, and my mental state is much more important. So it'll get worse before it gets better...

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 07:21 PM) The one thing I'll give Uribe is that he's fun to watch on defense at 2nd base. That's counter-balanced by how painful it is to watch him bat. -

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) I don't know about you, but I can pretty much see how this game is going to go. Hope I'm wrong but this looks like your typical "powerful Sox lineup overmatched by crappy pitcher" game. Except this is a pretty crappy Sox lineup. GIDP. Another quick inning. -

Bad pitching and crappy defense for a first-pitch triple. -

Nice hack at a pitch low and away by Paulie. Ugh. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) The low and away attack ( Joe Mays solution to shutting down a whitesox offense ) is on tonight. It doesn't help that we have Uribe, Hall, and an ineffective Thome in the same lineup. -

Toby Hall = Garbage. -
See, that's just ridiculous. His "association" with Ayers is that he sat on a board with him. That's about it. No matter what answer he gives you, you won't believe it unless its "Yes, I hate America and Whitey."

QUOTE (TLAK @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 06:33 AM) But Owens would be nice to have around to run for one of the cloggers in a late tight game. While Anderson runs fast, he is not a base stealer. The way the guys are going, I agree neither is going to play ahead of Quentin, Swisher, Dye. Owens base stealing is an added dimension that BA doesn't bring. If I ran the White Sox, I'd switch them out. And it's got to be BA, you can't go with only Zoomer as your only IF sub. Like I said in another thread, Owens speed would be nice for the occasional PR, but I'd rather have Anderson's glove coming off the bench as a defensive sub. That provides a lot more value than a stolen base or two IMO.

QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) The polls are officially showing... nothing. That's my thoughts. Posting all these contradictory polls just reinforces my opinion that they don't really mean much of anything. They might show a clear blow-out, but that's all they're good for IMO.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) I've really done an about face on JD this year. I wanted to go youth across the OF. But he's come out focused and on a tear. Personally I'd rather see Thome go at this point..... Offensively he's been good but he's turning into a butcher in the field. His legs are just too slow now. You could move Thome and DH Dye.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) its funny because in a gamethread about a week ago big bobby fell to the ground, and i was only watching on gameday,....fathom joked that an earthquake was felt in chicago....i replied "anymore on that?"...people naturally laughed at me because fathom made a joke, but i said i thought maybe the new madrid had gone off, because some geologists say its a ticking time bomb... til someone explained to me what happened during the game....kind of a bit of eerie forshadowing i suppose The last time it really went (1812), it is estimated that is was an 8.0 on the Richter scale. Church bells supposedly rang as far away as Boston. When that thing goes there's going to be a LOT of damage.

Yeah, great episode overall. Thought they made Michael just a little too mean to the land lady, though.
-
Woohoo! Thanks for the info. You think they'd have that information on their seating charts.
-
I have a question about the Cell. I can't find a detailed (row-by-row) seating chart for the Cell. My friend was offered 4 tickets for Section 146 Row AA. Where's that row at?

QUOTE (YASNY @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 08:10 AM) Sometimes, you just get beat. In this case, I think that's what happened. I think this was more of a case of beating yourself (3 unearned runs) than just being out-played.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 04:30 PM) I heard on the radio the other day that Dr Phil posted the "ring leaders" 30k bond in order to secure the exclusive story from her. This is such a tough situation. By no means can you let these kids slide. Especially with things like school shootings becoming more popular. You need to make kids scared of punishments again but its also sad for these kids to ruin their whole lives for a mistake when they are 15-16. All over some stupid s*** on Myspace too, thats sad. MySpace will be the downfall of society.
