  1. This was a family member. She will be missed. Absolutely senseless tragedy.
  2. I could be wrong but I think BA meant 99.99% of MLB player hookups go under the radar because they're just consensual encounters
  3. Bring back the halocyn days of the player/manager/owner
  4. The game would be so much better and tickets/concessions obviously cheaper if the owners got to pocket more money. Floor is good, luxury tax may be a good idea just not sure 180M is where it should start.
  5. Tuned in late just in time to catch the Vaughn hit and Lamb homer, came to check the thread, deflated now
  6. The smart manager knows that you get to bank unused challenges for future games
  7. 7-6 with the go-ahead homerun being robbed at the wall for the third out would have been pretty damn epic too.
  8. Where it ultimately lands on the list will depend on how the rest of the season plays out. If they win the WS, it'll be looked back at as a key moment in the season when the team was just sort of muddling along and blew a lead late only to come back and re-energize. Gotta agree with @lostfan though, hard for any regular season HR to top a post-season one.
  9. Once more, in spanish I didn't believe what I was actually seeing when that ball left the bat. Half of my brain knew it, half of it refused to process it.
  10. Tony clearly didn't tell Liam "throw better pitches instead of bad ones," putting him squarely at fault
  11. Lots of umpires are bad at their jobs, sad but true

    2021 Catch-All

Chicago's population basically held steady over the past 10 years:
  13. One common push back on the idea of expanding universal free public education beyond k-12 was the claim that it was something favored by "elites"/college educated people. From that data it looks like decent-to-large majorities support it across every demographic slice except two--conservative republicans and old people who grew up when college was a tiny fraction of what it is now if not outright free like Cali used to be.
  14. I know this ump's been bad but this crowd is just getting greedy!

    2021 Catch-All

Tornadoes are weird. We happened to be in the area, so we drove down our old block yesterday. Our former house had it's crappy, 30 year old fence knocked down but otherwise looked fine. Half a block up, and several houses were missing half their roof, most of their siding, etc. and some very large, old oaks and maples were destroyed. Very clear east-west straight line through the neighborhood with serious damage, but if you went maybe four or five houses north/south of that line, you'd never know a storm came through.

    2021 Catch-All

Not super psyched for my wife to go teach in rooms full of under-12's and my kids to be back in daycare/preschool full time. Feels like it's just a matter of time at this point before they catch it since they won't be eligible to be vaccinated for at least a few more months. At least my wife's district reinstated mask requirements for everyone after the CDC changed course. I'll say I'm glad we squeezed a couple of road trips and my daughter's birthday party in in late June/early July before things ramped up again.
