  1. QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 10:18 PM) You and iamshack are speaking as if they dont have an entitlement to their homes because they are section 8 funded, or on welfare. That is a pretty piss poor mentality to have. Why do they have entitlement? If I'm renting an apartment and my landlord sells it, the new owner can do with the building as he pleases. If he wants to evict the tenants, I'm out. If he wants to level the place, I'm out. If he wants to live there, I'm out. I have no right or entitlment to that property because I do not own. How are section 8 housing projects any different? What gives them entitlement to something they do not own?
  2. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) You don't actually believe that, do you? Because that was Obama's second book in any case. Dude, Edwards invented the idea of books and health care reform. Obama and Clinton just stole it from him!
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) Honestly, it's still sort of possible...because of some wierd, complex convention related procedures. The way I've read it it, there are a couple of main committees at the convention, and it's shaping up that the committee that might have the power to do something about those delegates, the Rules committee or whatever the Hell it is called, might be filled with more clinton backers, while the other committees, i.e. the one that writes the platform, etc., might be stronger territory for Obama based on the current set of endorsements. So, in other words, it's actually possible at this point that Hillary's people will be able to maneuver at the convention to have the rules changed so that some portion of or all of those delegates could be seated and that could make the difference if things stay this close. Well, Florida and Michigan really put the Democratic party in a tough spot. They had to do something because they broke the rules. However, disenfranchising all of the voters in Michigan and Florida may really hurt them in the general election. But, seating those delegates really wouldn't be fair at all to Obama, as he wasn't allowed to campaign in Florida or Michigan. If the race is so tight that it comes down to those delegates, the Democrats risk really pissing off a lot of young voters and independents who voted for Obama if they seat them and give Hillary the nomination. If it's clear either way, they'll just seat some or all of the delegates and there won't be a problem.
  4. Obama camp, NBC news claiming Obama ended up with more delegates last night: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8358.html
  5. My commute home (Des Plaines -> Woodridge) might crack 3 hours. it was over 2:30 last Thursday. I'm so sick of this snow!
  6. Just saw this: Winter storm warning. Rain/sleet south, snow/sleet Chicago and north and west, becoming all snow, turning heavy. Worst conditions mid- to late morning into afternoon. Strengthening northeast winds, 35-50 m.p.h. gusts. Drifting snow. Possible thundersnow with whiteout conditions. 8-14 inches Chicago, and north and west. 1-3 inches far south. WTF?
  7. I have a pretty comprehensive .pdf on the candidates' stances and policies on health care reform. If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM with your email and I'll try to get them out around lunch.

  9. QUOTE(Reddy @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) lol cept he would've had a lot of support in MO, TN, OK, AK, AL, GA as well. obviously he wouldn't have gotten a lot. but in any case it's pointless. oh well. It would have given him more of a "kingmaker" role if this stays close through the next several rounds.
  10. Willie Andrews busted with 1/2 lb of pot http://www.capecodonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll...NEWS11/80206001
  11. QUOTE(Reddy @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 11:53 PM) looking at the county breakdowns Edwards has a LOT of support in CA. Strange. Makes you wonder what would've happened had he stayed in.... *sigh* He would have picked up a handful of delegates, maybe get to 30 total, and then drop out?
  12. CNN has Hillary up by about 90 delegates. This comes almost entirely from Superdelegate pledges. Obama is neck-and-neck with her on votes won. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries...ts/scorecard/#D
  13. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) Fact: North Dakota only has 11 more delegates than Somoa. Every little bit counts.
  14. Obama is being projected to win N. Dakota. Also is holding or increasing his lead in Minn. as more votes come in.
  15. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) How does that work? I am really trying to get into the election this year, but still learning everything. I want to vote educated. Same way Bush "lost" the 2000 election but won with electoral votes. Nevada doesn't just portion them out based on total state-wide votes. Obama won in districts with more delegates.
  16. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 08:09 PM) but losing almost all states. Mass, NY are big losses. Clinton will win California. He "lost" Nevada but ended up with more delegates in that state. Let's wait until the delegates are all counted.
  17. At least we won't be arguing about Erstad vs. Anderson in CF.
  18. QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Read the article again. They are eliminating the ability for the seller to leave feedback for the buyer. As a buyer, you can still leave negative feedback for the seller if you are upset. D'oh! I had it backwards in my mind. There was way too much retaliatory feedback BS. Even if you had a crappy experience and wanted to leave negative feedback, you knew that the seller was going to do the same to you just to screw you over.
  19. So there's no way to rate or otherwise verify how trustworthy a seller is? Guess I'll never be using eBay again.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) You could ask the same question of Hillary backers, and get the exact same blank stare. What are you talking about?! She was in the Whitehouse for 8 years! (so was Chelsea, bet it isn't on her resume) And don't forget her campaign to reform health care in this country! (massive failure) She has experience!
  21. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) This is late night comedy at its best... http://rawstory.com/rawreplay/?p=581 This has been great so far. And I love how Stewart just came out and admitted that its an easy way for all three to waste time on their shows while the writers are gone.
  22. Romney on Dole: Romney on Dole (a little later): Mitt Romney, the most consistent man in politics.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) The NFL receives literally billions of taxpayer dollars in the form of government funding for stadiums, security, and other various infrastructure concerns around them. Furthermore, the NFL is broadcast over the public airwaves, which includes rules preventing any sporting event presented as being live competition as being pre-arranged or fixed. The Senator is fully within his rights to spend time on this. It's a matter of public interest, a matter that the government has rules governing, and for crying out loud, do you really think a few days spent by either one Senator or even by a full committee on this will prevent them from acting on the Iraq war or the economy? Not to mention that they are exempted from anti-trust laws. Same deal with MLB.
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Illinois is an open primary, so, yes. Also, I am not even sure you CAN register a party in Illinois. I dug around for some more information and found this: http://champcountyclerk.blogspot.com/2008/...ed-primary.html You declare at the polls and then you are officially registered that way (it becomes public record). You can change at the polls on the day of the election though, so it'll just change what political mailers they send you in between elections. I'll be heading to the polls after work. Lucky for me, the polling place is about 200 ft. from my door!
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) His ideas taken in moderation are helpful. If they were all put into reality, our economy would literally collapse. I have no problem with the pendulum swinging back towards his way of thinking, just not all of the way there. At least he has brought back into the conversation the idea of a smaller government instead of what we've been getting for decades.
