  1. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) I think it's much more complicated than that... How is using race as a measure of someone's worth (for admissions, hiring, promotions, etc.) not racial discrimination?
  2. Let's not act like the 2005 team was due to solely KW's genius. Wasn't it his Plan C or D after several other moves he wanted to make fell through?
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) Which is exactly what the Buehrle side wants you to believe. Isn't it also what the articles posted on whitesox.com, part of the White Sox organization, say?
  4. I'm not happy with Buehrle not being resigned. Not at all. However, the final judgement on this won't be in for a few years. I have no doubt that Mark will continue to be one of the best, most dependable, and least injury-prone pitchers in the game. If KW can get some amazing prospects in return for him, I won't complain. However, I really, really doubt that they'll get near the equivalence of Buehrle's perfomance from whoever they trade for. I'm all for dumping aging veterans and some other good pieces that can be replaced, but I don't see how the White Sox end up winning on this deal down the road.
  5. This team has to play better than .700 baseball for the remainder of the season to have a shot at the playoffs.
  6. Konerko is on one hell of a hot streak. Trade him!
  7. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 08:00 PM) In all fairness to the White Sox, your stats factor in Pods as a hitter. In fact, Pods is not an actual major league hitter but a poser. Sadly, he has a higher BA than anyone on the roster. And, other than Thome, no one's within 40 points. That's a sure sign that your offense flat out sucks.
  8. I liked this decision as well. Racial quotas are raced-based discrimination, any way you cut it.
  9. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) If they had any balls they would break it into pieces and pass the bill, or not, one item at a time. the idea that it needs to be one, huge comprehensive bill is just assanine, and just used so they can TRY and hide all the different loopholes they want. I think you and I are in complete agreement on this one.
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) I'll tell you, BushCo is SO wrong on this, and it's just about trumping everything else he may be "right" on. This ain't Texas, Dubya. Get your head out of your ass! There wasn't much to begin with. http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/06/28/imm...ress/index.html I'm getting really sick of the language used by some of the supporters of this bill in government. They talk as if this is the only possible solution to the problem. This bill is what "immigration reform" is, so either pass this or we'll never be able to do anything. Bulls***. Come up with REAL immigration reform that realistically deals with illegals already here, completely overhauls the immigration process, and, most importantly, protects the borders.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) Money becomes less important the more you have? I don't think you would know this unless you are in that situation. Have you ever heard of "the more you have the more you want?" It all depends on the person. How can you possibly have an opinion of this unless you actually know the person and what is going through his mind? You can't. You can base it off of his behavior in the past. Look up the story Neil Cotts told about their road trip as an indication of Mark's general attitude on life. Should be in one of the the no-no threads.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) Can you see why? They are silly remarks taken from left field. If you don't know the man or know what he is thinking then why would you make a statement about it or have an opinion one way or another about it. It is silly to comment on it if you are ignorant or lack knowledge of the situation. It is just silly. So can you see why someone would become frustrated and respond with flippant, caustic remarks? No. There's no reason to get that upset and resort to calling others retarded for making guesses and discussing what Mark's thoughts might be based on logical inferences and Mark's past actions and thoughts.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) If that's the case, gimme his number. If he ain't gonna miss it, I ain't gonna pass up an opportunity to ask for it. You're just intentionally missing the point now.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) It was $20M, silly facts... and I don't know what the hell you are doing on this message board if to you $10M is not a significnt financial impact. It's about relative amounts. To the poster, it makes a HUGE difference. To someone who already has tens of millions of dollars, it won't matter as much. I'd sure like to get 100k, but Bill Gates really wouldn't care about that much money.
  15. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) Why would they be running this when the team turned down the info.. what in god's name is going on today? The Sox didn't say "there's no deal," they said "there's no official announcement." Basically, like the government saying "we can neither confirm nor deny that" with classified information. If the Score's source(s) are sticking to their guns, then they see no reason not to continue reporting the information they're receiving.
  16. Why in the world would he accept less than or the same that they gave Vazquez? He's their #1 guy.
  17. Clearly, anyone who would want to dump the hitting coach of the worst offense in baseball for almost 2 half-seasons now is a "Cubs" fan. What a ridiculous idea, getting rid of the hitting coach of the team that is dead last in almost every offensive category! How foolish!
  18. Can't say that I agree with the tag line of this thread. Here's a nice summary by a lawyer friend of mine: "I like the Supreme Court's decision. I like the reasoning, and how it was explained, and it is entirely consistent with what I described. Here is my cliff's note summary. 1. The school had a rule that prohibited students from advocating illegal acts. 2. The rule was a permissible "content-neutral" restriction designed to promote order at schools, and the rules were adopted and in place long before the event occurred. 3. The rules were, by their own terms, applicable to the event, and again, this was adopted and in place long before the event occurred. 4. The conclusion that the student violated the permissible "content-neutral" restriction was reasonable. 5. Appeal denied. My point is that it doesn't really matter what the kid was talking about, if the rule was permissible (and I think it was), and he violated the rule (I think he did), the school has not abridged his right of free speech by taking the sign and punishing him. This result is appropriate regardless of whether the kid was a punk or a star, and whether he was saying bong hits for jesus or let's all lie down in the road to protest Bush: the intent and content of his message are irrelevant. the only thing that matters is whether the rule was permissible, and whether he broke that rule." In other words, he wasn't punished for his message, but because of the disruption. What he actually said had no bearing on the case, so it did not restric his freedom of speech.
  19. Reassign Walker to where? This whole organization's hitting approach stinks. The veterans can't hit and just about every minor league player comes up with a terrible swing.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) Because DJ's word is the word of God now? Come on. You're trying to find any little reason to blame Ozzie for everything. You know it, everyone knows it. If we lose today, I find it hard to believe that we lost because we didn't try to steal or do a hit and run in the 1st inning. Jeez. He still has to try and do the best that he can with the pile of s*** roster he's been given. This team struggles mightily to get on base -- you need to do everything you can to get them in when they do.
  21. LOL. If only they had A-Row. Then the bullpen would magically pitch better, the entire lineup would be able to pull itself north of the .250 mark, and the starting pitching would be absolutely lights out. Sorry, Rowand does not belong in the same catagory as players like Zambrano and Verlander. They are actually very, very talented. Rowand is an average player who busts his butt. By the way, Philly hasn't exactly been stellar since A-Row has been there. If he's such a difference maker, why aren't they running away with their division?
  22. I guess we don't have to worry about him reaching that magical number of at-bats in his contract anymore..
  23. There was only one bat today in the lineup above .270 and none above .290. This team is so pathetically bad.
