24% doesn't seem unreasonable given this team's current offensive woes.

if I had told you the team batting avg through today
StrangeSox replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 11, 2007 -> 11:29 AM) No, the product is a lot different actually right now. For one, the 25-man roster has changed by 6 or so players, for another, the hitters are struggling and the pitchers are performing, which is dead opposite of last season. For the second half of last season, the Sox were near the bottom in runs scored. -
Michael Moore facing Treasury Dept. investigation

Cuba was one of the few countries with a non-terrible infant mortality rate and life expectancy for decades. -
QUOTE(NUKE @ May 11, 2007 -> 06:58 AM) Way to mischaracterize my statement. Point Im trying to make is there are a bunch of whiny pussies who can't take a joke and there's people who don't get sand in their vagina when someone has a laugh at their expense. There's also a difference between a group of people making a joke and a University-sanctioned organization hosting a party based on racial slurs and stereotypes.
-
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 10, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) Racial slurs usually aren't an issue when they aren't directed towards you, or you agree with them. Indeed. Those idiots should grow up and learn to be respectful, responsible human beings. I think that as an educational institution, and hopefully one with rules, regulations, and guidelines that does not condone the use of racial slurs, the university should have done something to reprimand a school-sponsored organization for not only being so blatantly disrespectful with their use of stereotyping and racial slurs, but also for representing the university in such a negative light. What are they learning other than knowing they can keep those stereotypical and disrespectful views with little to no consequence?

QUOTE(Balance @ May 10, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) What happened with Kubel at 3rd? Grounder to Ozuna at 3rd, Kubel runs for third and Ozuna charges and tags him.

Nice play Ozuna!

Jose's gonna need more run support, and JD should have had that ball.

Guillen leans toward demoting Sweeney
StrangeSox replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(premo @ May 10, 2007 -> 11:18 AM) I just think that Ozzie needs to realize that what worked in 2005, isn't going to work forever. Players change, get older, some get better, some get worse. I figured that when Sweeney got called up, he'd just be another BA, and he'd be hitting .200 and we'd say "Well, he's young, and this is his first time up" Instead, he's looking like he good be a VERY productive member of this team for the rest of the season. Last night was the first time I actually got to see him play, and he looked terrific at the plate. He's got a higher batting average than everyone but Thome and Erstad. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 10, 2007 -> 10:45 AM) Well, you know what they say. Fool me once, shame on, shame on you... .... .... .... .... Fool, you can't get fooled again. Best. Bush Quote. Ever. http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/bushvid.../bushfoolme.htm

QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 10, 2007 -> 10:46 AM) Ah, ok got your point now. Listen... it amazes me as late as LATE in 2000, Clinton was saying EXACTLY the same thing Bush did on the WMD's. So what happened to them? Balta, I know you've drummed up 1,000's of articles telling us that Saddam had to of destroyed them, but come on... why would you believe that, in reality? Why would you believe that a borderline-insane, tyrannical, power-hungry dictator would just "give away" his weapons to a foreign country instead of using them to defend his own? A lot of the evidence that the Bush administration presented has turned out to be flat-out wrong or completely unreliable. There never was any solid evidence that he had them. It doesn't matter how many people on either side of the aisle believed bad intelligence.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ May 10, 2007 -> 09:09 AM) I assume the Syria link was what was considered notable. Like maybe a hint at things to come. They've been using that excuse since May 2003, though.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ May 10, 2007 -> 10:16 AM) Or to intentionally throw out a huge number to increase the dramatic effect of your oratory to preacher-like levels. Wouldn't that be a lie? You are assuming that he just made a mistake. maybe he did, maybe he didn't. Noone in his audience seemed to cathc of, they were all nodding in agreement when he said it. look at the people behind him when he says it, not one look of "what did he just say?" I read that the level of missing equipment and guard troops was also wrong, although on that one he supposedly got his info from the governor. No one would ever believe that 10,000 people died in a tornado, so throwing out "a huge number to increase the dramatic effect" in a situation like that would never, ever work. And, if it was intentional, they'd have to realize that the media would pick up on it and it would look bad.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 10, 2007 -> 07:16 AM) I still think Juliette is up to something and acting as the diversion. The other side of the tape with Bens recording is really fishy. It just seems canned and faked. Ben flipped out when Richard said he didn't have the recorder with Ben's message on it for Juillet. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 10, 2007 -> 09:29 AM) If Sayid is killed I will not watch the show. Also Kate is a complete moron. Sayid's the best character left on the show. Kate might be the worst. I've really grown tired of her and Jack this season. If either or both died, I'd be happy.

There was a big uproar down at U of I over a similar party. I don't remember how the University itself responded, but the fraternities/ sororities responsible took a lot of heat for it.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 9, 2007 -> 11:47 PM) Who is Number One? You are Number Six. Also, I have a feeling next week Charlie will pull a "Alec Guiness/Bridge over the River Kwai" to save his friends. I don't see how much farther Charlie's character can go or how much more the whole Desmond seeing Charlie dieing can advance the plot. He's gone by the end of the season.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 7, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) Edit: Hey, another Hypno-Toad avatar. All glory to the Hypno-Toad! I saw the episode recently while falling asleep the other night and dragged my butt out of bed to find a hypno-toad avatar at like 2 am.

I can't fully comprehend what happened in tonight's episode. After being sort of mediocre for the first set, and then stumbling out of the gate in January, Lost has really come back full-force.

damn it, do not blow this one!

QUOTE(TheOcho @ May 9, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) So what was Danks final PC at? ^^ Nevermind. 86 pitches, 54 strikes. That's a pretty nice ratio.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 9, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) Here comes some Micro Managing here. Danks has plenty left in the tank. Why do this. He's at 86 pitches.
-
I know its not usually the best idea to argue strikes and balls, but sometimes an ump needs a good verbal ass kicking...
-
Damn games being on WCIU. I take it that Danks is doing great?

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 9, 2007 -> 05:55 PM) How come insurance companies don't offer different rates for those who wear their seatbelt or helmet and those who don't? Health insurance companies do it with non-smokers and smokers. Hard to prove. I guess you can get the cheaper rates until you get a ticket for not wearing a belt or helmet. But what about states like IL, where there is no helmet law?

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 9, 2007 -> 05:23 PM) You are completely right on all accounts. 2nd, 3rd, and 5 year coaches = new. Clearly that is correct. Old coaching staffs do not lead to winning, exactly, I don't know what I was thinking. How could I even begin to debate these ideas. I was completely wrong in my way of thinking. How could I possibly have a different opinion than yours? Yeah, that's clearly not what I said. At all. Thanks for confirming your severe reading comprehension problems.
