QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 9, 2007 -> 05:10 PM) 2nd, 3rd, 5th = New? Yeah - you're right, I am agreeing with you. Fire them all and bring in the new. I can totally see your point of view. 2nd and 3rd? Yeah. And I updated it a little, so there were two more 2nd year guys. I clearly stated that Cooper had been with the organization for a long time and that he was in his fifth year as hitting coach. And you must have a reading comprehension problem because I also clearly stated that new coaches doesn't equate to winning. I was refuting your claim that old coaching staffs lead to winning.

One argument for safety belt and motorcycle helmet laws is that when someone gets injured more because of not using one, insurances companies have to pay out more and it increases everyone's premiums overall.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 9, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) That is the way good teams always get better right? A whole new coaching staff or a new manager. That always solves everything. I think you will find that a good organization keeps a staff together for a while and does not get trigger happy and fire someone at the first sign of disappointment. Then again the Cubs seem to be able to pick up the hot manager every 4 years. That seems to have been working out great for them, so maybe you are on to something here. Your right. Fire the manager. Get some new coaches in here! The Sox won the series in Guillen's second year. It was Walker's 3rd season. Cooper was around the organization for a long time, and he was in his 5th year. Harold Baines was in his 2nd year. So was Cora. Seems like it was some relatively fresh guys (to their positions at least) that won it here. I'm not saying that new coaches = winning, just showing that new coaches can win it all.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 9, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) Your right, but at the same time his players failed in situations they were faced with. But your right, lets fire the manager, we don't need better players. hitters that can't pitch over errors? I'd prefer both better players and a new manager, actually. I doubt either will happen. hitters was a typo.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 9, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) Ozzie would have never had to face that decision if Tadahito could throw it to first base without pulling Paulie off the bag. Doesn't matter. Ozzie still had to face this situation and failed. It's like giving excuses to pitchers that can't pitch over errors. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 9, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) As bad as those are, I can't help but laugh at the stupidity it takes to walk NICK f***ING PUNTO... And stupid intentional walks like that add up, because it means more at-bats for better hitters like Hunter and Morneau later in the game. That's what makes Ozzie's managing a real head-scratcher. If he NEVER IBB'd guys, ok. I wouldn't agree with it, but at least he'd be consistent. But his moves contradict each other all the time and show no logical pattern.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 9, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) On the bright side, that's twice Javy has dominated the twinkies this year. 13.2 IP, 5 hits, ER, 5 BB, 12 K's, 0.68 ERA now, if we can just match him up against santana... If there's one big positive from yesterday's game, that's it. Javy appears to be over his "3rd time through" troubles of last year.

if I had told you the team batting avg through today

What if I had told you that the team ERA was under 4 and better than Detroit and Cleveland? Would you expect this team to be under .500 and in 4th place? -
Yep, MacDougal definitely gets the majority of the blame for this one.

Almost every Sox pitcher seems to have lost velocity or not been as fast as advertised.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 9, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) Ozzie apologist? Surely you jest. If I am to champion anything, it's the desire to have the scope of accountability shifted from the front office and coaching staff to the players on the field. When it's Ozzie Guillen and Kenny Williams hitting .196 though the first month of the season, then you come back and we'll talk. Until then, let's place the blame directly where it should be placed--on the players on the field. No one is saying that the players aren't accountable. That's something you and others keep asserting, but no one is making that claim. The players are sucking and failing to execute. That's not a problem that's easily fixable. Ozzie Guillen is sucking and failing to make even decent baseball decisions/ moves. That's something that CAN be easily fixed if he just gets a clue. When does the manager get to take heat for his stupid moves? Or the GM take heat for the team he assembled? This team has flat-out sucked over the last 100 games. Is that long enough?

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 9, 2007 -> 10:23 AM) You take your evolved baseball acumen and get the hell out of here. This is another Ozzie b****-fest, can't you tell? This loss was Ozzie's fault Should Ozzie be fired? Where is the: "No, you're a pud." option? And que resident Ozzie Guillen apologist.... Do you actually want to defend anything he did or just your usual "OMG, you're so ridiculous! OMG OMG!" followed b hyperbole and strawman
-
There's no doubt that Sweeny should be playing almost every day. I just really, really, really don't understand why he's not playing every day for the White Sox. Guillen's choice makes no sense. Surprise. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 9, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) See post 27 Logic + Ozzie = Does Not Compute

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 9, 2007 -> 09:19 AM) Of course, it would help if we had a single dangerous hitter off our bench. We've gone from one of the best AL benches to the worst. Yeah, what's Ozzie going to do? Bait them with Cintron and then switch in Mackowiak? Oh, the terror!

Al Sharpton is such a joke. Why he's considered the voice of any one or any group is beyond me.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2007 -> 09:13 AM) Why is it that anytime the Sox take advantage of a mistake, it is instantly discounted, but when another team does it, its just something that good teams do? That's a part of the game. Its different when the Sox entire offense relies on having to take advantage of a mistake instead of being able to get runs themselves. Nothing wrong with taking advantage of mistakes, but you need to be able to score runs without mistakes, too, or you'll end up 4th or 5th in your division. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 9, 2007 -> 09:03 AM) Well the fastball was up and out over the plate. There are maybe 5 guys I walk in that situation and a scuffling Morneau isnt one of them. If first base is open, then I walk him, but I dont move the winning run 4 balls away in that situation. Is this loss really that hard to take for everyone? The bullpen WILL blow some games, in fact maybe over 10-15 will be blown by the pen. It will happen, deal with it. And the Sox WILL be in 4th place if they keep up this level of horses*** play and managing.

So the fans were whining about this in the offseason?

QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) No, he said the players he'd acquire would help the 2007 team if he traded any of our big 5 starters. The McCarthy trade was something completely different. Ok, I didn't remember the exact wording. -
QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) That I cant argue with. Hell I was screaming at my computer wondering why they were not pitching to Cirillo. However, this loss is not on ozzie alone. The bullpen blew the lead, and everyone saw that homerun coming a mile away. I was at the library studying in the 10th so i was following through gamecast...but what did hawk and dj have to say before the homerun in the 10th? Hawk said something like "he's a strong one" or "he has some power" immediately before he blasted it. But other than that, they didn't question it. They don't question anything.

QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) Hes going to masset and logan late because the rest of the bullpen was bad tonight. Look my whole argument is that anything can be seconed guessed. so really, whats the point? I am sure there will be a time when he doesnt play the L/R numbers and some bone head will complain about it here. This is a message board for discussing White Sox baseball -- why wouldn't we discuss, argue, and call into question the manager's very questionable tactics?
-
QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) Knowing people on this board..if Cirillo had beaten us then im sure the masses would be starting threads like "WHY DID OZZIE PITCH TO CIRILLO!!!!!1111". It's dumb and useless to complain about it. I'm all with ya on the lineups. I'm tired of seeing pablo, Rob Mac, and Cintron (although I know uribe is out to due family issues so i cant complain about that too much). defensive alignments and bullpen might not all fault on ozzie. Im not trying to be an ozzie ass kisser, but what about scouting? Dunno, just a thought. Hes going to masset and logan late because the rest of the bullpen was bad tonight. Look my whole argument is that anything can be seconed guessed. so really, whats the point? I am sure there will be a time when he doesnt play the L/R numbers and some bone head will complain about it here. What does scouting have to do with poor managerial decisions? Ozzie flat out sucks with the bullpen. He has been made a fool several times this year with his righty-lefty love affair by another manager simply switching pinch hitters after Ozzie has pulled his pitcher. There was no reason to pitch to Monreau. And no, no one would have beens saying "why did ozzie pitch to cirillo?" because the bases were loaded and Cirillo is much less of a threat than Monreau. When you have to rely so heavily on hyperbole to make you point, you usually don't have a good one.

QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:12 PM) second guessing at its finest. what if there was a single to right, one could have made the argument that if dye is playing deep then on a single the runner scores from second? this argument is obviously dumb, and thus im not making it. My point is that almost everything can be second guessed. why wasnt crede playing the line in the 10th...is that ozzies fault too? The end result is that the bullpen didnt give ozzie a whole lot of flexibility tonight So when the hell can you criticize Ozzie for his terrible lineups, poor bullpen management, and poor defensive alignments?
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) Javy was only at 107 and was dealing. I know 107 might be a little too much, but he should have at least started the 8th, and if he got up around the 120 mark, then taken out. He pitched a ton last time he was out. Don't want to burn out his arm this early into the season.
-
QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) THEY HAD A 3 RUN LEAD!!! It would be different if that game had been tied going into the 8th, then fine, i can agree with the greviances people are having. But to blame this on ozzie is dumb. The players didn't execute and Ozzie was made to look like a little league coach. Its not the first time its happened this year, and it certainly won't be the last. Responsibility falls on both. But completely dumb-ass managerial decisions are something that can be easily seen and corrected. You can't just make a pitcher pitch better, but you can make a move that makes a hell of a lot more sense than what ozzie does.

I hate Ozzie Guillen. Thanks for ruining my night, asshole.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) He missed one start! Flat out, KW lied when he said he wouldn't trade Garcia unless it improved this team for 2007. He failed! Unless you consider clearing a spot for another starter, like Danks, who may end up being better than Garcia over the course of the season.
