  1. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) I don't see how it's not being enforced when pretty much any porn site out there requires a credit card number for site access. If this law is made invalid then that would go away. By "enforced" do you mean nobody has been prosecuted under it? That's just completely wrong. There are tons and tons of free sites out there that require nothing to see all sorts of porn, from playboy-type stuff to stuff that would make most of us hear sick to our stomachs. Hell, there's even a site out there called "myfreepaysite" that requires nothing but an email address.

    The Departed

Saw it last night, good stuff.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) I agree 100% and would love to see the women of Chicago take up the same cause! Things would get a little perky with the weather around here this week... I'll never understand why so many Americans are so uncomfortable with the human body. That hoopla about the picture of a mother breast feeding, perhaps the most natural thing in the world, on the cover of PARENTHOOD magazine still baffles me.

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) I think we're going to see Texas Chainsaw - The Beginning tonight. I wasn't too fond of the Biel one, but this one is a pre-quel and supposedly explains how the family business got started. Anyone else see it or planning on seeing it? I don't plan on seeing it. Looks cheesy to me. I'm just sick of them saying "based on true events." Now it's so far removed from what they based it on that its just silly.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) Prospects develop, thats why we have to use patience. BS. EVERY good rookie comes out of the gate hitting .300+! Starting out slow and gradually improving throughout the season are signs of weakness, not development!
  6. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) at first i thought the other guy was a plant but since they returned him and made him apologize i doubted that was the case Could just be more mind games.
  7. My guess is the other guy was a plant. What I want to know is what happened to Kate. She looked very shook up and had lacerations all over her wrists when they put her in the cage. Overall, I was sort of let down. They didn't really tell us too much we couldn't have already figured out, and they didn't really open up any huge new questions. There was no cliff-hanger ending to speak of. The episode was slow-paced and short; there were commercials every 4 minutes. If that keeps up, I'll just be watching via torrents or online.
  8. Interesting, very interesting. The one thing I felt the show was missing was more commercials. I couldn't get enough of the interruptions! And what's this crap about needing to have an AmEx card to see additional clips online?
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) mine too. But most of these models are 5'10" and size 0 Yeah, that usually doesn't look so good. I'm not sure if I should admit this, but.... I'm 6'3" and I can squeeze into her pants. Curiosity got the better of me one time. Of course, I haven't gained a pound int about 5 years due to my metabolism being on par with that of a humming bird.
  10. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) Personally, I think a size 0 is just as unhealthy as a size 20, just in different ways. They need to promote health not size in regards to models. It depends on the size of the girl. My gf's only 5' tall and at a healthy weight, but she's a size 0.
  11. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 09:31 AM) Anyways, the point of me posting in this thread: I heard that they introduce new characters. Like, other dudes get "lost" and somehow end up on the same deserted island. Is this true? Because if it is, well, you know.... That's enough to hold me back from ever getting into this show. You can't introduce new characters with a plot like that, unless they are natives of that particular island or whatever. The original survivors have come upon other people on the island. Some were from the same plane but had landed elsewhere. Another is a woman who was marooned years ago. And then there are the "others" and the Dharma people, of which we don't have a clue about. So, its not like new people are just coming to the island all the time. The initial group is just finding more people.
  12. QUOTE(juddling @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 09:42 AM) Chicago's Rules of the Road 1. Turn signals will give away your next move. A real driver never uses them. That's so damn annoying. You signal to get over, so the jackass in the next lane speeds up to keep even with you. What's wrong with people and the "oh no, you're not getting in front of me!" mentality?
  13. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) i'm guessing that they haven't abandoned any of those things. there's a lot at work here, and just when you think a plot line is going to disappear, something will resurface. Oh I don't think they're gone for good. They've just sort of, well, forgotten about them for about half a season now. It just seems weird that these sorts of things (the more mystical things like visions and monsters) only seem to happen in spurts on the show, and then are quickly forgotten about. No one even mentions that crazy thing in the jungle that's killed or chased several people. After only a few weeks, I think I'd still be kinda freaked out about it.
  14. QUOTE(smalls2598 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) I pretty much did the same thing you did; I didn't watch season 1 until last March, and finished that in one week; i was so addicted that i once watched 9 episodes in one day. But then i had to wait until last month for season 2 came out, but i took it at a slower pace to savor it a bit more. Can't wait for tommorrow! And yes SS2K5, i read that review in the EW mag and it was a good review of each character. Same for me! I had watched the series premier, but sort of forgot about it after that. Last winter break, I borrowed the DVD's from one of friends. Hooked instantly. The one thing I don't like is how they just sort of forget about different plot lines. When was the last time they brought up that weird ass black smoke thing? Or the noises? Now it's becoming more and more about socialogy and power struggles and such. Still a great show, I just don't get why they abandoned some things.
  15. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 06:19 PM) . And covering songs does not make anything out of an artist. I'd bet Dylan has had more of his songs covered than any other artist in the world from now until the beginning of music. I don't know, man. Those guys like Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven have had their fair share of cover bands, like the Chicago Symphany Orchestra. Write your own music, you bums! But seriously, Dylan >> Rush, in every way, shape, and form. Edit: Oh, and one of my parents' friends had Styx as their wedding band before they got big. Just a completely useless bit of information
  16. Wilco just scheduled two shows in Chicago for Thanksgiving weekend. Tweedy is also doing a solo show in Champaign.
  17. A plan like this penalizes people who cannot afford new cars, and rewards those who can. What's next, we sue car manfacturers for making cars that meet our emissions standards? That would be the day!

QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 09:39 AM) I liked Slevin. Never saw the ending coming and this from a guy who predicted the end of Sixth Sense after the first scene. Anyone see Gridiron Gang, Black Dahlia, or Hollywoodland? I may go see one this afternoon. I saw Hollywood land. The first half was pretty good, the second just dragged on. I wouldn't recommend paying $8 to go see it, but it'd be a decent rental.
  19. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) I don't know...there was Emerson Lake and Palmer, Crosby Stills and Nash, Bee Gees, and I am sure there are more. What's wrong with CSN?
  20. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) There is something about that too, this drive some women have to be absurdly, sickly skinny, that I just don't get. If the motivation is to look skinny for someone... who is it for? Because in my experience, most men prefer women with at least a little bit of curves. Something other than skin and bones. sure, some men like more or less of it, but its pretty rare to find a guy who likes the stick figure on the right (with one exception - the extreme control freaks). So who are they doing it for? It's a psychological issue. One that can dominate their lives. They don't see themselves as skinny, even if they are 20 lbs underweight. It doesn't look good, and once they can step back and start recovering from the problem they can see that. But during their obession with weight, they simply cannot.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) BS, huh? Well, let's look at my BS claim. In the last 24 years (I'd have done 25 except 1981 was a strike year), the following is true of teams that won the World Series: 3 of 24 repeated as champs 8 of 24 made the playoffs 6 of 24 had a better record the year after 15 of 24 had records over .500 So tell me again how my claim is BS? Those are the facts. Most teams, like I said, do worse the year after. 18 of 24 in fact. Only a third EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. And not even two thirds have a .500 record. Am I disappointed? Yeah, I had high expectations too. But let's have some perspective here, shall we? Here is the last 24 years, WS winner, record, record in following year, and playoff status... To be fair, you'd have to see if the teams that won the WS and missed the playoffs would have made it in with a wildcard spot. The White Sox didn't win their division and didn't win the wildcard, while teams pre-1994 just didn't win the division. AND, you need to look at what the teams did after winning. If they went into a rebuilding year, vs. a supposed major upgrade to the "best rotation ever assembled" there's going to be big difference.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) How many teams have repeated in the last 20 or 30 years? Few. And I'd love to see, if someone has the data, what the regular season records of WS champs were the following year (in the last 20 or 30 years). I'd bet that very, very few had better records the year after. I quickly looked up WS appearances vs. playoff appearance the following year since the introduction of the WC. 8 out of 22 teams have not made the playoffs after appearing in the WS the year before. '97 Marlins* '98 Padres '00 Mets '01 D-backs* '02 Angels* '03 Marlins* '05 White Sox* & Astros *Out of the WS winners, 5 out of 11 didn't return. What I'd like to know is what exactly those teams did after winning the world series, ie complete rebuild after a fire sale.
  23. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) Tell us more about the scouts. What were they saying? "2 strikes? Low and away!"
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) We at soxtalk sincerly apologize for insulting your mancrush. You are right, stats be damned, he is the bestest hitter and most clutch guy in the history of baseball. If he was on this team right now, he would of had a stooge convention and we would of won 140 games. Freddy would be throwing 98 mph if he had seen Rowand in CF. And Buerhle would still know how to pitch. And Vazquez wouldn't s*** the bed in the 6th inning. And Contreras just wouldn't suck like he has post-DL. Oh, and the bullpen wouldn't fall apart, and Guillen would have taken some pointers from him on how to make a lineup card and bullpen changes. 140 games is a conservative estimate, my man.
