QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) Take a chill pill. Put him on ignore if you can't stand his posts. Some people take sports a little too seriously. Nice bunt Pods. -
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) I wonder if fans of every team quit so easily on their team when they are 1.5 games out of a playoff spot in August I guess we need a "Anyone who thinks that this team can catch Minnesota is crazy" fanclub. The concern isn't that the Sox are only 1.5 games back of the WC race; the concern is that they have been slipping further and further back since the ASB now, and aside from a few flashes of brilliance, have shown no signs of turning it around. Unless Minn. and Detriot completely fall apart, the Sox' current level of play will lead to some golf outings in early October.

The Ozzie Guillen Battleground Thread

QUOTE(Wealz @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) Far from great? Call it like it is, the starting pitching has been brutal. Give any other manager THIS year's starters and they are nowhere near 5.5 games behind the best team in baseball, in the toughest division in baseball. The pen hasn't been much better either. Why do you think no one else is near Ozzie's level? How can you possibly support the way he's handled Vazquez, BMac, and Anderson? -

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 09:45 AM) Good teams make good managers in general, not only in Ozzie's case. I agree completely, that was my point. I was responding to the "they wouldn't have won with anyone but Ozzie" comment. -

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:20 AM) I can't believe after last year anybody would want Oz gone so quickly. That is so f***ing ridiculous I can't beliieve it. We won the f***ing World series. You think we would have won it with ANYBODY but Oz? Give me a break. I mean criticism is fine. But this team's pitching has been HORSEs*** Is that Oz's fault??? If you want Oz gone, fine, bring in Piniella or LaRussa when he gets fired after this season. I wish Oz well as he manages the next 25 years in some other city. He'll win several World Series. s***, he's already won 2. Ozzie Guillen is not a good, but a GREAT manager. You give Joe Torre, Leyland, Gardenhire, etc. the success of the White Sox pitching staff last year and they win, easly. The pitching this year has been far from great. Part of that is Oz's fault because he routinely leaves his pitchers in too long and misuses the bullpen. Another part is playing a different lineup every day and not putting the best defense out onto the field. -
I really, really, really wish someone would just ask Ozzie point blank why he thinks Mackowiak should ever play CF. EVERY TIME he's out there he blows at least one play and usually costs at least 1 run. On the other hand, Anderson has made some great run-saving, game-winning plays and has finally come around at the plate. And don't even get me started on the crap with BMac. Ozzie is just not a good manager, period. His "style" worked last year because the players were still able to execute when put into bad situations. Now that this strategy clearly isn't working, Ozzie has done nothing to change or adapt. He leaves the starters in too long, misuses the bullpen, and puts out retarded lineups every other night.
-
Does anyone else find it retarded to declare a war on things like cancer and drugs? WTF does that even mean?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) Its almost time to warm up the pen. 2nd time through the lineup, once we get to 3 its magic time. I'm pretty sure Ozzie thinks there's a rule that starting pitches have to pitch into the 7th.

Gooch flashing some leather.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) Plus he had the ball well before Gload even was turning at third. The hot dog guy could of thrown him out from the OF on that one. The throw was gunned straight to the catcher. Its not like he was out half way down the line.

QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) I missed the first 2.1 innings (saw the DP!), so someone explain to me why Cora sucks this time? He sent a runner who got thrown out at home. To his credit, the LF had a perfectly aimed throw and it was still close.

HUGE DP!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 10:59 AM) Actually, there's been a fair amount of debate as to actually how Plan B works...a bunch of different ideas have been presented...that it prevents release of the egg, that it prevents conception, that it prevents implantation, etc. I don't have a link right now, but IIRC, the most recent evidence has gone in the direction of suggesting that the main way it works is the first of those...preventing release of the egg. It may also do the others, and it's not a 100% case yet, but that seems to be the primary means. And, just to make another point...you say it's "a different story" that the egg doesn't implant. So what is your reaction to the fact that failure to implant is actually something that happens at least a non-trivial amount of times on its own? I've read that it depends on when exactly during the cycle that the sex occurs. Most times, it'll simply prevent the egg from dropping. However, if the egg already has dropped, it can prevent it from attaching.

QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 09:10 AM) I don't usually get too upset about individual losses, but I was ready to punch a hole in the wall last night. Wow. Anderson has a 6 game hitting streak and is hitting .444 over that span. Ozzie, tell me why this 24 year old needs a rest! Ozzie Guillen is a terrible manager and I hope he's gone next year.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 05:20 PM) This is where it started. Hezbollah is Muslim. Palestinians are Muslim. If the Palestinian issue were solved peacefully a long time ago, we wouldn't have these things escalating to the levels we are at today. Hezbollah is using the Palestinians to have a reason to eradicate the Jewish state. Which goes back to my other point...the Palestinians aren't welcome in MUSLIM countries, but are being used to get rid of the State of Israel. Hezbollah is all about Lebanon, not Palestine. -
So does anyone have clips of these?

QUOTE(samclemens @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 07:26 AM) Of course they drank before they were 21. i did, you probably did, and 99% of people do. in my experience, smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol was not what brought harder drugs into the frey. it was pot, eventually. theres a huge difference between a teenager stealing booze from their parents and a teenager hanging around with drug dealers. drug dealers will always push something harder. So wouldn't legalizing it, thereby removing it from drug dealers' hands, decrease the likelyhood of it being a "gateway drug?" If it were available on the shelf next to cigarettes and vodka, it'd be no more of a "gateway" than those drugs. But why should alcohol be legal and marijuana shouldn't?
