  1. Don't want to get shot? Don't point realistic-looking weapons at police. Pretty simple. And its not like it was a 7 year old outside playing, the kid was 14.
  2. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) But a nuclear attack was the subject of the thread and the most serious threat. And what could they do? This being a conversation of if's and but's, IF we were to bomb them in that way, and IF they retaliated, the entire world would rain down on them. Their retaliation would be mitigated I think. They could turn off the pumps and get other OPEC nations to embargo the US. Boy, those would be fun times of $10/ gallon gas.
  3. Just popping in to say that if Ozzie continues to start Mack in CF, then he will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is a terrible manager.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 05:47 PM) I hope you aren't telling me that you believe everything you read in a textbook... I did say that they're poorly written pieces of trash.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) If this quote actually was ever muttered by anyone besides Peter Arnett is an interesting discussion... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Arnett Interesting indeed. I remember reading it in a history textbook, of all places. Those things are poorly written pieces of trash. Regardless, that still seems to be the mentality of some people.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) And if we're talking about eliminating the entire population of Iran in order to make sure we win a war, well, then I'd hope it wouldn't just be the left which would oppose that. To paraphrase a quote from a Vietnam Sgt.: "The only way to save them is to kill them"
  7. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 06:48 PM) Post ASB, Minny has swept KC and Tampa (not to mention us). They're taking advantage of the lesser teams. This is why I cringe when people say it's OK to just win 2 out of 3 against bad teams like Baltimore or KC. We have to sweep those teams, too (especially when we're doing so poorly against the good teams). I was saying the same thing during the Pirates and Cubs series, but was told not to worry because "they have the second best record in baseball! One here, one there doesn't matter!"
  8. QUOTE(wallyburger @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 07:35 AM) Ouch, 4 posts in and the thread was hijacked. If I may go back to Mariotti, what contract extension and raise? I am an out of towner and out of the mainstream loop. P.S. I am glad he is back, if only for the controversial articles he is guaranteed to write. Love him or hate him, he will get your attention. The beat writers crap is boring. I really thought the Williams article about inactivity was with some merit, but I am really not bent out of shape by Williams non decisions. One Championship in my lifetime beats all Hell out of none. I saw the AL Championship in '59 and the World Series Championship in 2005. When you wait that long, contentment creeps into the equation. Mariotti's articles are often shallow and very obvious and meant only to spark controversy instead of actually meaning anything. I'll pass.
  9. QUOTE(minors @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) I don't hate the system. The evidence is clearly there why do we need to waste the money on these thugs or I guess I could use the liberal thinking that the cops must have planted all the evidence because the cops are so bad and the criminals are so nice. But unfortunately we will have to have a long trial with tons of cost to the taxpayers just so they will be found guilty and end up appealing for 7 to 10 years with another huge bill to taxpayers just so they get the injection anyway. Thankfully, no one who works in anything even closely related to the legal field agrees with you. Our legal system is predicated on a fair trial and vigorous defense for EVERYONE, even the most vile, disgusting criminals. Otherwise, the State can just decide which cases to railroad. Also, the State will get lazy because they won't have to build a solid case in "obvious" situations. That ain't good for nobody.
  10. QUOTE(minors @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) They have plenty of evidence no doubt about guilt. Guns found in there apartment were the same type of weapon used in the crimes and the forensic evidence links the guns with the crimes this is an open and shut case. They could save the public a lot of money if they just give them the injection right now. Why do you hate the American legal system?
  11. QUOTE(SouthsideNorthsideFan @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 02:34 AM) the Daily Show used to be good before Jon Stewart started hosting Kilborne sucks at life.
  12. Unless you completely blew away every other candidate, I would just expect them to stick to their timetable and call you next tuesday through friday.
  13. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) what is ozzie doing wasting time like this Being a bad manager.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) He didn't have a very good 7th inning, but he didn't blow this game. Our offense didn't do much today, and Pods defense cost us. Teahen is on fire right now, and we kept putting pitches over the plate for him to HAMMER. And didn't Ozzie walk a batter to get to Teahen?
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) Um, the American revolution would be yet another example of how you cannot put an insurgency down by force. Every example I gave was an example of a more powerful country trying to put down a guerrilla insurgency with overwhelming force, and failing dramatically, just as happened with the British. To be far, insurgencies have been put down by military campaigns in the past. The Phillipinnes comes to mind.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) So, Isreal is just supposed to sit there and keep swatting mosquitos? Let me go a bit more in depth on my reply. What you are proposing has been proven to be ineffective. You can speculate on what will or won't work, but it's been proven over the decades that the status quo doesn't work at all. Let Isreal try and kick some major ass. Let them try and kill Hezbollah once and for all or cripple them to the point of ineffectiveness. Lebanon was on its way to becoming a somewhat succesful democracy in the region. Over time, positive development will get rid of fanatical groups like Hezbollah. For instance, Palestinians feel desperate and angry because their situation is so dire with little hope for improvement; thus, they support Hamas. Hitler would most likely not have come to power in post WWI Germany if their economy hadn't been in shambles. Point being, fanatics rarely gain support in countries where a majority of the population is living somewhat well. They come from countries with populations full of hopeless people. Things were better in Lebanon, and it appeared that they were heading down the path to eventually disarm Hezbollah. Now, thousands of people will forever resent Israel, rightly or wrongly, and that can only set back positive development in the region.
  17. I fail to see the irony in this brutal, senseless murder. Perhaps if one of his own clients that he kept out of jail did it, there'd be some. But this is just a sick and random act.
  18. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) That 1 hit is better than what Widger provided for his last 5 weeks.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) I'd just like to know where in our scouting report does it say throw fastballs down the plate to Sanders? That's about the 5th time this season we've just grooved him a fastball over the plate early in the count, and he's crushed it. He's batting .244 this season. Sox pitching seems to be somewhat clueless on how to approach hitters this year.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) The past few years, the KC infield has been super fast. Iguchi's inability to make the play results in 2 runs. Mark's inability to pitch results in 2 runs. So far.
  21. Maybe they actually want to build support for a third party instead of keeping the status quo with the equally inept and clueless R's and D's?
