  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) Of Javier's last 9 starts (when his ERA has gone up), we've won 5 and lost 4, so I wouldn't pencil in a loss so quickly. Here's the scores on those wins: 11-8 8-6 20-6 5-4 8-6 The offense is not playing anywhere near the level it was. While I think it will come around, I still don't have confidence in Vaz going out there to win a game. It comes down to whether or not the offense can score 6+, not if he's going to pitch a good game. His ERA over the last 7 is over 7. If we're not going to use McCarthy in the rotation, he can pitch long relief. If he is no more productive than Vaz, then yes, we've got problems. time is running short, and there's a reason Vaz has been on 3 teams in 3 years. He is a mental midget. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) Why do you rest him vs your primary competition. Why did the starting lineup play ONCE in the big series against Detriot after the Sox came off a couple of rough series? This was right after the ASB too, so everyone had just had a big break.
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) You've got to have faith that he'll eventually get it straightened out. You can't just pull Vazquez after pitching 5 scoreless innings. It ruins his confidence, and you use your bullpen more, which could tire them out, for when you really need them. If Vazquez keeps losing games for the Sox, then the bullpen won't be needed anyway. Vaz isn't the only problem on this team, but when he starts you might want to pencil in a loss.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) You know those "Snowflake" embryo adoption kids that the Administration and the few other souls against stem cell research love to tout? Here's some numbers on them. 400,000 frozen embryos. 128 embryo adoptions. And how many "normal" kids are just sitting in orphanages or foster homes waiting to be adopted? Do we really need to add more?
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) What do you think that does to a guy's confidence in the big picture? Pretty soon his 'big' inning becomes the 4th, then the 3rd..... What does leaving him in for his inevitable big inning in crucial games against divisional/wildcard rivals do to the Sox' playoff chances?
  5. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:45 AM) The Twins cannot keep an .800 winning percentage for the rest of the season, and the Tigers will come back to earth in August. Why can't the Twins keep winnning at a ridiculous rate? Cleveland did it last year. And why will the Tigers "come back to earth" in August? I remember hearing May, then June, then July, and now August as the ETA for the Tiger's return to earth. I don't think its going to happen.
  6. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:25 AM) I have no problem with the way Ozzie handles the starters. We all know his philosophy: Here's the ball, if you get in trouble, pitch your way out of it, I'll be in the dugout and won't bail your ass out, see you in the 8th inning. It worked last year, but since so far this year the starters haven't pulled their end, it's bad startegy on Ozzie's part??? Uh, yes it is, because it isn't working and its costing the Sox games. Why stick with a strategy that has proven, time and again, it won't work this year. If you know your starter melts down in the 6th once some runners get on, PULL HIM before that happens or when you see the first sign of it. Its the end of July, and if we just let them "work it out" we'll be out of the WC race by the end of August.
  7. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) At some point, he has to come out of it. If he doesnt, then you took a shot, and he failed you. But Javy is a very important part to this ballclub, and he isnt going to get any better at working late into games by sitting on the bench after 5.... How many more times do you trot him out and have him blow some games? Awwww damnit.
  8. This team cannot throw anyone out at all.
  9. Wow close call there. Uribe with some more risky but good decisions to go home.
  10. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) and the change was so sudden, too. All goes back to that Boston series and they were playing so well going into it. It looks as if they've lost confidence, which is dumbfounding. I don't think they were playing all that well coming into it. They won their series against the Pirates and the Cubs (two of the worst teams in baseball), but not very convincingly. Its been downhill since then. Hopefully they can come back again tonight and turn this funk around.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) I dont know why people are upset with Ozzie... this guy is apposed to be a top of the line starter... a manager shouldnt have to pull him out after 5 scoreless innings. Yet we all know that about the third time he goes through a lineup he gets rocked. He's "supposed" to be a great pitcher, but he isn't.
  12. So what's Vazquez's ERA in the 6th inning? 15?
  13. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) Fine. If Pods isn't moving to CF and Soriano's not in left, just where does everybody think Soriano's going to be playing? Pods goes in the deal?
  14. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) With Soriano in LF, and even the possibility of Pods in CF, from a defensive standpoint, I'm getting sick to my stomach. Please don't mention Rob Mackowiak or I may throw up. Sox aquire Everette, OF is Soriano, Pods, Everette
  15. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) Um, didn't Pods play center prior to the Sox and isn't the whole point then putting Soriano in left? Look at how poorly he's been playing left. Do we really want Mackowiak-style defense out in CF every day?
  16. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) That's some serious filth at the end of the game with Jenks/Thorton/MacDougal. Imagine that bullpen when healthy and the pitchers are "on." Wow.
  17. Well, at least this year has been more exciting than last year's trading season.
  18. The Presidential office has grown far beyond what the founders intended. Since the early part of the 20th century, Presidents have given themselves more and more power. They were never meant to single-handidly run the country, as they seem to now. This is just another (large) step down the same path.
  19. Heads, get outta here with them facts. We all know the ACLU only supports extremely left-wing child molesters and violent criminal because they hate America and everything good in the world. I don't think its been mentioned yet, but cheers to the Patriot Guard Riders for sheilding the families from the WBC clowns.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) I love how my pointing out of Cheney's politicizing of this mess got 0 responses and the Kerry one got 3. I think we all know this administration likes to politicize anything and everything to keep their party in power
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) More sour grapes from the person who lost. I am sure that with Kerry in power, he would of convinced Israel to sit there and let Hezbollah just pound them with rockets daily. If Kerry had been elected, he would have solved world hunger and brought peace to the mid-east by now. Terrorism, poverty, and drugs would be non-existant. We would live in utopia. Democrats need to shut their mouths (Dean, Kerry), or they're going to end up hurting their own cause this November
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) John Kerry: what a tool.
