Just being respectful to the Twins. You can only score 15 runs in a series or your manager will arrange for you to get hit with a baseball.
-
those "2018-worst pitcher in baseball" commercials starting to look premature
-
he swears he saw Yermin digging in, ran to the top of the dugout steps and was screaming "TAKE TAKE TAKE" none of this ever happened but alcohol is known to impair your judgement and dull your senses
-

Old school baseball is for soft babies who can't play well enough to not get "shown up" and have their delicate egos hurt though. You have a position player in there tossing garbage, you get these results. It's that simple. Asking the other team to stop trying to play baseball (while your hitters are still out their trying to get hits, of course) is more insulting.
-
I'd be sad that the White Sox played poorly and lost but I wouldn't care if some Twins hitter rocked a garbage pitch from Adam Eaton or whoever. edit: VVV yeah I'd be mad at TLR for giving a free base runner in a close game the next day over some dumb baby nonsense
-
I don't know why that'd be funny. Your team played very poorly the day before. They played much better and won the following day. What more is to be done? Why isn't this petty baby revenge bullshit in other sports?
-
Be happy my team managed to come back and win the following day
-
I sincerely hope the Sox are up by 10 in the 7th and Yermin crushes a 3-0 pitch 500'
-
no better argument for firing TLR before today's game and picking a player-manager
-
obvious exception:
-
"You're too shitty and too far behind to ever possibly come back" is so much more insulting than continuing to play the game hard and score runs when able. Dinosaur baseball "unwritten rules" don't even make sense. If the Twins didn't want the Sox to score any more runs, they could have either played better or forfeited the game.
-
what is this magical threshold of "enough runs" where you should disrespect the other team by not playing baseball properly and essentially telling them they aren't a threat to beat you?
-
Yermin has every right to feel disrespected and to let TLR know he's not playing by the unwritten rules of managing by throwing a very hard object at a high velocity directly at him. Tony couldn't possibly have a problem with that sort of response and may even write Yermin an apology letter!
-
Yermin was right to ignore TLR's signs, everyone should ignore him from here on out, management by player committee. What could possibly go wrong?!
-
All this drama and the team is best in the MLB. If/when they hit a rough patch, things are really going to get bad. Disaster of a hire from day 1.
-
Do they lose pay if they got tossed for the remainder of a game? Long suspension for the manager and pitcher probably makes more sense. Make the penalty for this trash so onerous that nobody does it.
-
Suspended, no. But if a team is going to try this absolute garbage, it should cost the team. If the pitcher goes rouge, tough shit, your team will suffer for your childish actions. Or give the batter one free shot with their tool of the game to the body, pitcher's choice of punishment
-
Throwing at the batter intentionally should be an automatic ejection for the manager, pitcher and catcher. Really make it hurt. Want to be a bunch of dumb babies that you played like garbage? It'll cost you more than some garbage reliever.

And that's a 16-4 White Sox winner!

That was definitely an intentionally dumb hot take But at the same time, tlr is a bad manager in 2021 that has been bailed out by players like Mercedes. Telling him to take on 3-0 was dumb, and then throwing him under the bus was monumentally stupid. -
so close

If tlr is a bad manager then ignoring his dumb decisions in order to score more or give up fewer runs is a positive move imo. -

If the twins just wanted the game over they could have forfeited or taken every pitch after they were down by 10+ -

The Sox should absolutely play the game the right way: Score as many runs as possible in every situation Give up as few runs as possible in every situation The game isn't over until the home team is leading at the end of 8.5 or later, or the away team is leading at the end of 9 or later. If you don't want the opposing team to keep scoring, then forfeit. Stop trying to score any runs yourself. I still remember playing soccer for a year as a kid. Our team was terrible! We scored one goal the entire season. We still had fun, and we weren't even being paid hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars.
