  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) I still think Haeger should be starting in the big leagues...not with us, but with someone, preferably (for him) in the NL. If not this season, then certainly to start next year. Interesting, I thought he just learned the knuckle ball a couple years ago?
  2. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 07:33 AM) MEDIA BIAS!!!! I'm sorry. I had to. So one story can complete wipe out media bias? I know people here prefer to ignore media bias, but it is still prevalent. Not as much, but it's definitely there. This is just the beginning of th eventual switch to this city being owned by the Sox. Not that it bothers me being the 2nd team, but this is just the reality of the situation.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 08:28 AM) lol just leave it alone man... if it goes any further than mods will delete thread or something. If anything just say take it to PM's. As for Uribe... I agree when he is 100% focused his talent level is good enough to be a gold glover. But I guess you can say the same thing about Freddy.... when focused he can be a dominant pitcher. And really im sick of those guys on this team... you should be "focused" all season long not just for certain games or for 2-3 weeks at a time and than nothing for months. I never even thought of moving Uribe because I think I'm still too stuck on 05. Not even all of 05, just the World Series. What he did in that last inning...I'll remember it forever. I can't base my opinion off 2/3 of an inning though. While he has a buttload of talent, he's just way too inconsistent and....lackadasical. I won't say lazy, as I feel no Major League player is lazy. You don't make it to the big show by going through the motions. Freddy and Uribe are very similar: they have all the talent in the world, but they don't seem willing to take it to that next level. On the flip side, you can look at Joe Crede. He had/has all the talent in the world, and after a few years of mediocre numbers he hit the weight room hard, got stronger, and now look where he is. We're talking .300 30 100 out of the 7th place hitter! His defense hasn't been as consistent as last year, but it's still been fantastic. Some guys are willing to do "that" much more, some aren't. Kenny was right on with the whole "grinder" thing. I don't see Uribe and Freddy as "grinders". At least we know Podsednik just isn't that good, lol.
  4. For as good as Jon's been, his ERA sure is taking a long time to get down there. I guess I didn't realize how crappy he started the season...
  5. QUOTE(SouthsideNorthsideFan @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 02:22 AM) holy crap you couldn't be more wrong... Two baseball teams (four actually, since a large percentage still follow the Gnats & Dodgers), Two basketball Three hockey (not sure if there was ever any whalers love outside of Hartford) Two football tons of collegiate sports soccer and this is all with Boston & Philly in fairly close proximity... (hell, maybe even some Jai Alai fans there...) It was a joke.
  6. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) My cousin, my best friend at work, two of my nephews, my goalie from back in my hockey days.... I have great baseball discussions with all of them all the time, and they are all die-hard Cub fans. Not only do they know the names of current Cubs, they know Cub history (not much HAPPY history, but it is history) and they know a LOT about baseball in general. The Bleacher Creatures ARE the vocal, stupid, glorified stereotype, and real Cub fans are embarrassed to be associated with them. No one I know will sit in the bleachers anymore, because that's where most of the stupid behavior takes place. I think we've all met real Cub fans here and there. Let's be honest, there aren't that many. Off the top of my head I can think of only a few--and I'm not BSing you. Even my own mother is "one of those" Cub fans. My grandpa as well. It's pretty sad actually.
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) Which is why I strongly dislike both of them (although Santo is far worse than Hawk, but then again he has had diabetes for decades so I guess that's understood). Screw Santo. He was given the great celebrity treatment for his diabetes while my grandpa was left in a wheel chair with an amputated leg due to gangrene. Santo also had an amputation, yet he was soon on the golf course. My grandpa lived the rest of his life in excruciating pain in a wheel chair. Oh, and on top of it all, Santo was one of the biggest jerks in professional sports. Good things happen to good people...BS. Sorry, not a fan of marble mouth. lol
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 07:36 AM) The Sox have a better chance at calling up Otis Redding... Yeah, Tim Redding would be "Hard to Handle". BWAHAHAHAHA Sorry, carry on.
  9. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) That's what they want you to believe........ (there's no such thing as a REAL cubs fan. As if........) I'm glad you understood my post, I read it back and realized it didn't make sense at all. haha I meant...I hear from so many Cub fans that "those" fans are just the bandwagon fans. Yet I'll talk baseball with them and I get the same stuff. Mispronouncing their own players names, saying it's all about the "Wrigley experience", actually believing it's the best park in baseball, etc. So they end up being just another bandwagon fan. I'm wondering, where are all these "real" fans?!
  10. I actually know exactly who you're talking about. Older white man with gray hair. I don't know anything else about him besides he's always selling beer.
  11. The only pitchers that know how to pitch inside lately are Garland and Contreras. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!!
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) Does anyone actually think Fallon is funny? I can't stand him. I'd like to take a swing at him with a barbed-wire bat. I do only because he was so bad on SNL. He would always break character and I love when that happens. However, if every character broke down all the time, it wouldn't become funny: it would become stupid.
  13. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) Thankfully, we will not be in the runny for Barry Zito. He will get somekind of insane deal like 5 years/70 mil because of how "awesome and good" he was in 2002. Even though, in the last 4 years, hes been only slighly above average, with an ERA+ of about 1.15 or so. Plus, he would suck even harder in the Cell. 11-7 3.60 this year. That's better than...oh...every single one of the Sox current starters? He could of had 1, 2, possibly 3 more wins with the Sox too.
  14. I knew Joe Crede was at the top of that list...I've heard that before. But hey, Minoso is on there too!
  15. I'd like to see Kerry Wood on the Sox just because he could go to a team with good coaching. Let's see what Coop can do with him. He seems to have success with "stuff" guys (Thornton, Jenks, Cotts...to an extent). Crawford would be awesome. Gary Matthews Jr. is a good idea, but how do you know 06 isn't a career year? Crawford is more proven. I don't know his contract situation, but Brian Roberts would be pretty great as well. Trade either Garcia or Vazquez for prospects and a backup catcher...since I'm not too sure how much longer Sandy wants to go.
  16. Your list seems to look at offense only. And even then I'd say Thome and Dye are equal. Dye hits for better average but Thome hits for more power. It's sort of a wash. Factoring in defense (and offense), I'd say Crede tops the list. He's one of the most complete players this team has. Iguchi has the potential to be hands down the most complete player, but he hasn't shown that yet. Iguchi has the power, speed, average, and defense. He just hasn't really put them all together into a massive offensive year. Batting 2nd doesn't help though...
  17. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) I call Bradon "Black Mack" sometimes, or "Black Mac." Why does everyone have to have lame nicknames. Why not Brandon? Or McCarthy? Or MacDougal? I leave the nicknames up to the expert. (Hawk) Bmac, Black Mac, Mack Daddy, Mack a doodle doo, enough with the lame nick names! QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) Leave him alone! No reason to be a grammar Nazi. I can't stand poor grammar/poor spelling. We're all adults here, the least we can do is type like one.
  18. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) I was expecting it to be New York. Great to see Chicago get some love From what I've read/heard/seen, New Yorkers HATE sports! Well, at least they hate the individuals who play the sports and the managers who manage the sports! haha
  19. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) It is good to have a board spell checker. I suffer from fat fingers and an 'I don't give a crap' attitude when it comes to spelling on message boards. You're going to be hearing from me a lot then. I mean "Your" going to....
  20. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) take for example their tribute to their favorite Cubs players...the beer man http://www.beervendors.com/ These are the bandwagon fans who support this stuff, they aren't the "real" fans. Yet every Cub fan I come across in my daily life is a "real" Cub fan. Who to believe...hmm...
  21. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 07:43 AM) I agree it's too Cubsesque. But if it were to happen, it should be the "BArometer" Brilliant!
  22. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 10:15 AM) Yep, yep: http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-sside02.html So, Juanito's problems are on defense eh? Guillen said he can deal with errors, but he thinks the .248-hitting Uribe has recently been taking his offensive struggles onto the field. That's one of the big reasons Alex Cintron started at shortstop Tuesday. "(Uribe) looks like he cares less. I think he's trying to bring his bat to the field ... " Link
  23. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 12:07 AM) Jon Garland hasn't allowed a HR in 52.1 innings. Jinx. I bet he gives one up in his next start.
  24. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) Fixed Thanks. He stole 11 bases last season. I don't care if you "know how to steal a base" (as Hawk would say) or not, you need some speed to steal 11 bases.
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) Scott Hall was my favorite. Too bad he had a ton of problems or at least thats what I heard. Of course I never know what the hell is true and what isn't. It's true. He had big time drinking problems.
