A little recap for those who can't listen at work please?
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) I definitely wouldn't say he's great. He's a little above average. I'm going to stick with great. He's got deceptive speed, a great arm, takes good reads, dives a little more than I'd like...but that has to do with his speed. He's faster than most give him credit for, but he's still not THAT fast.
-
I think he's great. He always seems to make the plays.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) I don't mean to minimize the extra workload, but the two of them did only pitch 3 extra games. Is that really enough to cause these problems? I agree with LV, I think one or both of them is hurt. In my opinion....yeah I think it is enough. Besides just the 3 starts, it's the mental work load and it's the entire month of October where instead of doing some training/recooperation, they were still on the road playing ball. I don't think it has anything to do with IP, but just for the fact that their routine was thrown off by that "pesky" World Series. So when people say the starters will come back to their career norms...I'm not always so sure about that. Sure, Buehrle's going to get a lot better (he can't get much worse), but as for Freddy and Vazquez, I think what you see is what you get. Freddy because of the playoffs and WBC, and Vazquez just because he's overrated and has never been that great in the past few years.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) not me. I love that other place. and the other place thats the offshoot of this place too actually very clever comment haha I didn't get it until you said that.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) Is the other site filled with complaints about threads that are clearly defined in their intent and can easily be passed over. Point taken, but I've been doing it for the last three weeks. It's getting old. Since most people could really care less, I won't get into it. I hold no grudges.
-
Yeah, the Tribune is one of the best papers you'll find in the Midwest, if not the country. It just has a spiffty sports section.
-
Jesus, both sites are FULL of threads like this. Are they really necessary every single day?

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 12:45 AM) A big middle finger from most of the USA. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/fp/flashPol...mp;pollId=38318 Right back at ya, ya bastages! Big shout out to Deleware. Thanks for supporting the good guys! -
QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) we have to start developing some youth so this decent team of ours doesn't all get old at once. i'd put sweeney in left to begin with. bmac plus another new guy in the rotation. we can't say oh this year was an aberration. I wouldn't mind Corey Pattersion v. 2006 leading off for the 2007 White Sox. And I don't care if McCarthy's in the rotation, as long as he's the 5th starter. Unlike most Sox fans, I realize that Brandon isn't a lock to become some Baseball Savior. I don't believe he has "ace" stuff. Unfortunately, rookie pitchers are like backup quarterbacks. Everyone wants the backup.

First, save the "this year isn't over yet". I know it's not, and I expect the Sox to make the playoffs and succeed in the playoffs. This is just for fun. Who do you see on the 2007 White Sox? Who stays, who gets dealt, who just gets let go? And who comes in? The bullpen seems pretty set. There is enough talent there to get by. Bullpens tend to be very hit or miss, and Kenny Williams has done about all he can outside of getting 6 legit closers. I see no problem there. Offense. Who knows. I'd like to see a different leadoff hitter next year. Upgrades at shortstop COULD be made, but only if it's a superstar. Who's avaliable? I don't know contract situations, I'll check ESPN after lunch. I might get some spiff for this, but I wouldn't be totally upset if one of the power hitters got dealt. Kind of like a 2005 deal. Move one of Dye/Konerko/Thome for some LEGIT players. It would have to be for a big time ace in the rotation or a LEGIT leadoff hitter. I can't stress this enough, I'm not asking for one of those guys to be dealt, but if they did it would have to be for a serious player. Just an idea. Starting pitching, Buehrle, Contreras and Garland aren't going anywhere for now. As for marijuana man and Vazquez, who knows. I see one of them being dealt in the off season. Who comes in here? Again, I can check ESPN after lunch, but I'd like to know who's out there, who you'd like to see, etc. It's just for fun, but let's keep it realistic. Stuff that could actually happen.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:14 AM) http://realwrestlecrap.proboards89.com/ind...6796&page=1 Should have all the info you'd need. That. Is. Awesome. I'm at work, I can't get that now, but I definitely will when I get home. Screw moving out of my apartment today, I'll do it tomorrow (the story of my life).

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) Ya, at times guys throw harder in high school because they aren't throwing as many innings and have shorter seasons. Another thing that could happen is you have a coach that changes your mechanics to help out some other stuff and it results in a loss of velocity. Its really a crapshoot, some guys really gain velocity, others drop. Another thing that happens is guys from college can have the same thing since they at times only start once every 7 days as opposed to every 5 which means they are always stronger and when you switch to once every 5 days guys don't always maintain velocity so they turn into guys that don't throw near as hard. Makes sense, thanks guys.

I expect nothing less than a sweep. It's time to man up and start pummeling these weak teams. They took 2 of 3 from Baltimore, but it wasn't pretty.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) So the latest from Stark has the Twins and Astros as the favorites for Soriano. Says the White Sox' talks with Bowden are "collapsing" because of Ken Williams' refusal to part with McCarthy or Fields. Believes Soriano may very well not be moved until Monday afternoon. I respect his decision to not move McCarthy. But Fields? Call me crazy, but it would not hurt my feelings if Fields was traded.

Power Rankings aren't based off the season, it's based on their recent performance. With that said, how in the heck are they ranked 6?
-
Hopefully Freddy took it easy on the booze and ganja last night and he can lead the troops to a White Sox winner. I'm going to sit back tonight with a beer and a cigarette and enjoy a great game by the White Sox. ...who am I spiffting. I'm scared.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) She is cute but really packed on the lbs. I haven't seen a pic of her in a few years so hope she got her weight down. Topanga made me feel all tingly inside when I was young. Kind of like when you climb the rope in gym class. (movie quote) She made me think a lot of new thoughts I never thought of before. haha

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) My velocity dramatically increased from high school to my freshman year of college. I gained about 6 inches in height from my senior year to January of my Freshman year. My velocity in high school was 78-80 mph I think, I could top it off at 82. My freshman year I was humming it in there at 87-89 and could break 90 depending on the gun. I did a ton of running in the offseason. But I also did a ton of long toss in the fall. I think that, plus my height helped me gain velocity in a short period of time. I lost velocity in my junior year, but that was to damage in my elbow and my shoulder that was seen with an MRI. If his mechanics changed and he isnt driving off the mound a lot. If he is out of shape, if he worked out a ton and gained a lot of muscle and isnt as flexible as he was. If he is overworked that could be another thing. I pitched a lot more innings between college and playing in competitive summer collegiate leagues and playing fall baseball. Any of these things could be a reason. Just see if its isolated or this is a trend for him. He's thicker than your average pitcher. (Former HS linebacker) I just thought going from high school to college would result in an increase in velocity. He's kinda lazy though, it's probably his own fault. haha

QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 08:02 AM) Carlos Lee isn't going to be traded to the White Sox... I just want a freaking leadoff hitter!
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) And yet people question why we'd want Soriano in LF. Yet when I talk about this whole Soriano thing on other boards (non-baseball boards, but in the baseball forum), they all INSIST Anderson is the one who's going to be benched because they're looking at his season average. It's driving me crazy trying to get the point across to these people!

MVP 05, seriously. The only catch is you'd have to buy one of those Sharkports and transfer rosters from the internet to your system. Mine are pretty up to date because I've been working on them for the past 2 years. Otherwise, MLB 06 The Show is alright. Can't go wrong with Madden. NCAA is fun if you know the players. I don't, therefore I find it boring. Tiger Woods games are REALLY fun to play with friends, believe it or not. We play Tiger the most up at school. Memory cards are a given. Gotta get one.

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Cintron My thoughts exactly. Uribe isn't hitting for average, but he always manages to produce runs/home runs at a decent rate. There are better SS out there, Cintron isn't one of them.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 09:17 AM) Hey buddy, you seem to be really taking these losses tough lately. Cheers man haha, yeah I got on your case a few days ago for being negative, but I think it was the next day...I lost it. I'm so pissed. I can't read the paper, I can't listen to the radio, I can't watch sports TV, I'm miserable! Ok, things could be worse--it's only baseball. But I've been a crab ass lately. I know things will get better, but these rough stretches are hard to handle for me. I can only stay positive for so long. But at the same time, the "sunny skies" don't need to post these things after every freaking loss.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 08:21 AM) I've heard of NSync and I'm pretty sure Justin Timberlake was in the group, but I can proudly say that I have no clue who the ef Lance Bass is. He was the one who was going to go to space, but it never worked out. They didn't have a space suit in the right color. HEY-OOOO (lame, I know...I tried. haha)
