  1. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...ews/262005.html I remember the buzz about this guy when he was drafted, the first (documented) high schooler to reach 100 mph, and supposedly he hit 101. I dont think he ever made it past AA. Just another guy in another long line of KC draft busts. Btw there is a blurb about McCulloch in there. Sort of off topic, but not. I don't know who the minor league experts are around here, but I'm going to thow this one out there? My buddy threw 87-89 in high school, went to college and actually LOST 3 or 4 miles off his fastball. This is with increased physical training, higher competition, and better coaching. Does this happen a lot?
  2. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) I hear ya, but I am just puzzled by the love for Alomar. I'm not trying to profess that Fasano is a big-time star, but his mobility is not a problem. Don't be fooled by his size. He handles himself very well behind the plate and handles pitchers very well. Pitchers like throwing to him. It certainly has not been his bat that has kept him in the big leagues. And he's my cousins cousin. I would of loved if he came to the Sox. I'd get some pretty good seats at the games!
  3. QUOTE(flbob @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 07:53 AM) detroit had a 3-7 week-and-a-half in late may/early june, against teams that at the time were able to get into the tigers' heads. the season was young and the team was as surprised at its early success as the rest of the world. include the 0-3 sweep by a differently performing cws back in april and the tigers showed 3-10 against teams with winning records early on. back out that bad stretch and the tigers have been 21-12 against the best. this series against the twins is the tough test in my book. playing minnie at their place has not been easy for anyone the past few years. the rotation for that series is miner, robertson, bonderman. miner against liriano is almost a certain loss, although the tigers' record against lefties is really good. the other two could go either way. this is maturing tigers team. i don't see the yankees or red sox having anywhere near the same psychological advantage over the late 2006 tigers. feel free to bash me for playing with numbers - i certainly would, albeit quietly and to myself. :7) So let's take out every game since the all-star break and the Sox are 26 games above .500! There's a reason you play the games.
  4. QUOTE(dyenamite23 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) i was just reading si and saw something about the sox maybe getting rowand back 4 vazquez this works we can get bmac into the rotation Don't believe everything you read. And punctuation would make that a little easier to read. Periods come at the end of sentences. And "for" is only 2 more keystrokes than "4".
  5. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:16 AM) How many of these type of threads are we going to have? Starting a "Let's get going" thread after every series loss is not gonna magically spark this team. Man, I couldn't agree more. Every loss there's another "have you lost faith" or "we'll turn it around!" thread. Gimme a break. Tough it out, teams go through slumps all the time.
  6. Anything but Podsednik, that's all I ask. I didn't have a problem with his less than stellar stats last year because he got the job done. Now he's got less than stellar stats and ISN'T getting the job done. He's useless. He can't hit for a high average, he doesn't have a high OBP, he can't play adequate defense, he can't throw the ball, he forgot how to bunt, and he can't steal. Timo Perez has a better upside for crying out loud. At least he could play defense and drive in clutch runs.* *This is not a statement promoting Timo Perez, just a comparison to show how much I would not miss Pods if he left.
  7. QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:38 PM) There are MANY more highly touted prospects that turn into Kip Wells than ones that turn into Fransisco Liriano. I'm with you. VERRRY few pitching prospects even make the majors, let alone come in and dominate.
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 06:08 PM) Goldberg was entertaining on the mic? His whole gig was to make deformed faces, go "RAAAAAH" and "WHO'S NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Entertaining my ass. Was the Rock better than Austin? IMO, nobody was, except perhaps Foley, although Foley is easily the best real promo in the business, which was something I can't ever remember Austin giving. My fault, I just meant that Goldberg wasn't a good wrestler. Poor wording on my part. Foley's stuff as Cactus Jack in ECW is bone chilling. He's the man. No doubt about that. I haven't seen his promos lately hyping his Flair feud, but I hear they're incredible. Brian, with all due respect to the guys you listed, I'd still put Austin up there. Talk about irony though, Austin made his name at the King of the Ring after he beat...yep, Jake Roberts and gave his famous "Austin 3:16" speech.
  9. QUOTE(Sox It To Em @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) Meh. I guarentee you that the Sox will go on a 15-5 tear or something soon and we'll all forget about this rut that we're currently in. They're going to go on another one of those famous 8 game winning streaks and we'll forget all about this.
  10. The only guys I see being replaced are Pods, Vazquez, or Garcia. I think the pen is pretty much set right now. A real leadoff hitter would be nice. (Then again...Soriano's OBP isn't much higher than Pod's)
  11. Is there going to be a "feel good" thread every time the Sox lose now?
  12. Since when did people say the Rock and Goldberg were good wrestler's? The Rock's finisher was an elbow drop for crying out loud! At least Goldberg had a couple impressive finishers. I have no problem with the Rock. He was a fantastic entertainer, and frankly, that's what puts a guy into the main event. Bret Hart is one of the few guys I can think of who got by with a rather dull personality (in my opinion). Even Andre the Giant was known to have a fantastic personality even though he couldn't speak English. That's why the internet wrestling community bothers me so much. They want guys like Lance Storm and Chris Benoit pushed all the time, but they have zero personality. Hearing them talk on the mic is brutal. People WANT to see Brock Lesnar squash some dude. They want to see Hogan play to the crowd and drop that "vicious" leg. haha....The Rock played to the crowd better than anyone. Stone Cold drank beer and gave out stunners. DX was rude and crude. Flair...well that man is nuts. Foley, nuts as well. That's what I loved. Now we got a white rapper and a second generation primadonna.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) And therefore, we didn't get to draft anyone nearly as sure as a Justin Verlander. I've always said I'd rather be spiffty than mediocre. At least you get the draft picks. Less heart break too, you can just say we suck instead of being so close, yet so far.
  14. At first I picked Fields because we have a pretty good 3rd baseman as it is, and a lot of teams would like to get a guy like Fields. But then I saw Owens (it was too late to pick him)...and I guess he's sucking it up in the minors. I could live without him. haha
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:58 AM) Of course this is silly... everyone knows Chavez is Crede's replacement.. lol ahh, the good 'ol days. Chavez and Helton at the corners. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:11 AM) While I wouldn't trade Crede in all likelihood mainly because of what it would do to the lockerroom (its something more for an offseason than midseason) don't count on White Sox lifers just because he's one fo your favorites. Don't forget who his agent is.... I just ran across a Joe Crede quote in someone's sig at the other site, but it basically said he wants to stay with the Sox, and as far as his agent, he'd be willing to make a change. I'll go find that now. found it: Crede told the Daily Southtown in July that he wanted to continue his career on the South Side and that if he believed his representation was not keeping his best interest in mind, "I'd make some changes."
  16. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:47 AM) I guess deep down my point was: I'm tired of being down two runs and knowing that we won't come back from that. And I'm not the only one who gets that feeling. You could feel it last night when Javy gave up the lead; you could feel it Friday when I was there after Buehrle's five-run inning. Oh well. We'll see what happens. Actually, what bothers me more is being UP by 2 runs and knowing the pitching staff is going to blow it. How many times last year would the Sox come out of the gates with a 1 or 2 run inning, slap on a couple/few more, and call it a day. The pitching staff would allow 1-3 and we'd go home happy. I've seen the Sox jump out to 2-0, 3-0 leads and lose 10-3 lately. I was giving Hangar a hard time yesterday for jumping off that ledge, but last night really pissed me off. So sorry about that Hangar. haha Vazquez is brutal. He's so hard to watch. I'm going tonight, hopefully I leave happy because it's a long drive home.
  17. QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) The Sox didn't average 100 losses in the last five years and they didn't lose 119 games in 2003 though. Nope, they didn't. You got me there!
  18. My productivity just went down 50%. It's usually only at 50% to begin with though. I cannot concentrate! haha If this goes down, you gotta believe Podsednik is gone.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) Last time I checked, Sweeney was still sitting on only like 7 home runs. We're talking about a difference between a guy with a .772 OPS and a .939 OPS. On top of the whole age difference thing. Well I'm not saying he was hitting 20-25 in the minors right now, but I hear that's his ceiling. And I think he had like 3 or 4 bombs in the Spring. I was just wondering, I wasn't trying to make a case for Sweeney.
  20. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Unless someone removed a large portion of Hangar's post, I don't see the problem with this thread. Big deal, he asked which game personally aggrivated you after watching. No one else has been legitimately upset after a poor game? It's inevitable over the course of 162 games. The whole premise of the thread was based off another thread in which Hangar jumps off the proverbial ledge. That's why I have a problem with it.
  21. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) Well, his whole schtick is being the "Legend killer" bothering all of the "Legends" of the company, so at least he isnt Mark Henry squashing cruiserweights week in week out. The strange thing about Orton is that I feel he could be good, he is one hell of an athletic wrestler, and he can generate a lot of heat, but the guy is obviously and overwhelmingly in love with himself and that just shines through. Well, I guess I'm going to kind of contradict myself here, but Randy Orton is starting to sound like that guy named Rocky Maivia. http://www.csma-netlink.co.uk/users/malcolm/maivia.jpg He wasn't getting heel heat, he was a baby face! People genuinely hated the guy. He turned his career around, maybe Orton can do the same. I'm not trying to say Orton gets nearly as much heat as the Rock did, but it's sort of the same situation.
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) Hopefully not. He won't be ready for regular time in 2007, even as a backup, unless someone comes down with a major injury. Calling him up at the end of this year would only start his arbitration clock a year before it should be started. Barring injuries, he shouldn't see the big leagues until the latter half of next year. Josh Fields on the other hand will be called up without a doubt. Serious question here, why is Fields a no doubter and Sweeney isn't? I recall Sweeney having a pretty good spring, even showcasing some of that 20-25 home run power the scouts say he has. Is arbitration the only reason?
  23. Boone Logan/Montero Ryan Sweeney?
  24. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:27 AM) Yeah, if you're not a female co-worker you probably don't have much to fear from "The 3rd Generation Superstar". I just get the vibe that he's the guy who talks a good game, but then hides behind his buddies when the real action goes down.
  25. QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 01:18 AM) It's only because of the surprise. The Sox were a bit of a surprise last year, but not this big of one. But, I agree. There is absolutely no point in comparing the Tigers to Tiger Woods. The Sox were picked to finish 4th by many "experts".
