  1. You know what makes me furious....people who finally step over that ledge you hear so much about.
  2. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:48 AM) Well, they are 3-9 since 7/7. By Mid september, this team will be hovering around .500 You cannot be serious... But they are 59-38 since 4/4. Statements like that are the reason generalizing terms such as "dark clouds" come into existence.
  3. Regal is one of the guys I wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. Well, I wouldn't want to meet most of the WWE wrestlers in a dark alley, but Regal would cause the most damage. Randy Orton? I think I could take him. haha
  4. This guy got too much hype playing in FLORIDA for crying out loud! Now that he's in Boston? Look out. I think I'm going to throw up. lol
  5. I never had a problem with Podsednik last year, and I couldn't stand the nay-sayers saying he was overrated. ...a year later I'm really starting to realize that they were right. He can't field, he can't throw, he can't hit over .300, he can't get an OBP over .350, and he can't steal like he used to. Podsednik isn't horrible, but there are so many better options out there. I think I saw it here, but someone listed all the leadoff hitters in the major leagues... The VAST majority were better than Scotty Podsednik.
  6. I'm just going to kind of echo the statements of other people here, but I think this situation was handled very poorly. At first, I couldn't believe that Widger didn't KNOW why he was being released. Then I read some more into it, and they're going to straight up call the guy lazy? That's not right. Tell him you're just not getting the job done. In other words, you suck. As a former athlete (and I'm sure there are many former atheltes on this board), I'd rather have a coach tell me I suck than tell me I'm not trying hard enough. Because, quite frankly, that was the case in my athletic career. It wasn't for a lack of effort, that's for sure. It would be different if Widger really wasn't doing anything before games besides drinking gatorade and seeing how far he can spit seeds, but I HIGHLY doubt that was the case. With that said, welcome back Sandy. Good luck Widger, I just hope we won't be seeing your WS ring on eBay in 20 years.
  7. 59-38 .608 ...and they aren't even playing well right now. I think everything is going to be fine.
  8. I don't get on the internet much over the weekends, but when I heard Widger was sent down I could only laugh. The first thing I thought about is this place. But I do feel bad for the guy, I'm sure he's a great person and I guess they were showing some footage of him saying his goodbyes in the clubhouse. But he had the chance to come back from playing softball to playing for a world championship club. He got his ring, he got his pay, good luck in the future. (Although his career is probably over.) --- As for Alomar, I'm looking forward to him catching some Mark Buerhle games. I believe Alomar was Mark's personal catcher back in the Alomar/Olivo days. (You know, Miguel Olivo. The future all-star!) This isn't a blockbuster deal, but it's a move in the right direction.
  9. I too get upset, but there's nothing we can do about it except keep showing up to games and cheering on the team. Booing accomplishes nothing, and getting all pissed off accomplishes nothing. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it IS just baseball. This is a group of 25 really talented guys (since Widger and Politte are gone), and I have faith they will pull it together. Garland did it after a rough start, Anderson did it after a rough first half, things will fall into place. I think yesterday's game was a great start. It reminded me a lot of 2005. Now if they can just keep that up for most of the remaining games...
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) Avoiding rap music. And country. Country is pretty good. The thing is, not much of it is even "country" anymore. It's pop/rock with a southern "twang".
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) Two, ECW.com says that Dreamer's diary was suspended, but he's been on TV of late. Is it a work, the whole "Diary of Violence is suspendeD" thing or what? He basically said what everyone else is thinking. Vince has taken ECW and pissed all over it. We now have WWECW. It's not hardcore, it's not innovative, it's the 3rd show for the WWE. Look who the big names are: Big Show, Test, Angle, RVD, Sabu. At least RVD has an ECW connection, and well Sabu is ECW to the core. But I believe Taker and Khali just went at it on ECW as well. I haven't seen one episode of ECW, I'll admit that, but just from what I've read, I feel bad for those guys (Dreamer, Sandman, Sabu, RVD, Heyman, etc.)
  12. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) What do you have against BMac? I think it's stupid and overdone. It was overdone when JLo came out. But that's just me.
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) Vazquez would nearly double their payroll, they have NO use for him. Yeah, the Sox would have to pick up most of his contract. I was just saying it wouldn't break my heart if he was traded. Tell me you did not just say MCab. I've heard a lot of bad "first initial, first part of last name"'s, (ok, they're all horrible), but that one is probably the worst!
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) The question is where does Fields fit in? Obviously they have Cabrera. Would they move Fields or change the position of another guy. Wow, under the radar is right. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to throw in Fields, Sweeney, or Vazquez. Not all three, but any of those guys could be a part of the trade. If it were to go down.
  15. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 12:23 PM) Rowand is hitting .212 in July. Sorry Sox will go 9-3 in their next 12. wow, I apologize. Apparently Rowand and Anderson look very similar. haha I had centefielders on the brain.
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) I've heard this specific to those that ARE white trash (ligue, etc), but not in general. Not generalizing or assuming is something I strongly believe in. I agree.
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:21 AM) You didn't say the Tribune at first, but hey, whatever. I've read more than a few of your posts too, it's the same stuff over and over, along with a play by play of your latest WSI launchings. And then you come back to the media subject. If you can't handle someone debating the merits of your posts, sorry. But then maybe stick to what you've said a couple of times ... that you're done talking about the media subject. No I didn't say the Tribune at first, but that's what I was referring to. My fault. As for WSI, it's just me venting, I get it off my chest and I move on. I'm not saying it's right, that's why I usually stop myself and just drop it. Nobody wants to hear it anyways. The media subject, I do enjoy talking about it from time to time, but I was referring to this conversation in particular because I never meant to make a big deal out of it. Of course I can handle somebody debating the merits of my posts. That's what I'm here for. But to argue about a subject I don't feel that strongly about...it's hard. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) If that's what you're called, maybe you need some new friends. Oh, they're not friends of mine, it's stuff I hear randomly on the street. I hear it in baseball conversations throughout the season. And you think they have to get this material from somewhere...
  18. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) Nice response, no logical explanation. The problem with this team has been the starting pitching, not the bullpen. Riske replaces Cliff McCarthy replaces Viz Thornton replaces Marte What some people fail to remember is that the LAST 2 guys in the pen last year actually had some pretty good numbers. Especially Vizcaino. He quietly had himself a pretty good year. Kenny decided to take away pitching to beef up the bench. I just thank the baseball gods that Riske came along. Otherwise the bullpen would look pretty bad.
  19. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:26 AM) Pick up today's Sun Times, big story on the trash throwing. The Sox aren't treated like 2nd class citizens, and the papers are catering to their readers, just like any other business. The chip-on-the-shoulder viewpoint on this is what's ridiculous. I was talking the Tribune. Most people get the Trib...unfortunately. When being a Sox fan either means a) you're a thug or b ) you're white trash, I'd say that's being treated like a 2nd class citizen. They're catering to their readers, yes. But how did that all start? Resindorf played a big part in it, but you can't deny the fact that the Tribune also played a big role. The Cubs went from the laughing stock of baseball (minus 84) to the Cute and Cuddly team on the Northside. The Sox went from the USUALLY competitive team with a larger fan base to "those thugs and trailer trash on the southside". When a large media outlet owns your team...you're in good shape. Hangar can back me up on this, as he's more knowledgable on this subject, but unfortunately he can't say anything without being attacked by 4 different posters. As for the chip on the shoulder viewpoint...I'm not a believer in sitting back and taking it. Ozzie apparently wasn't either when he went after Mariotti. And now Jay's been MIA for awhile. But I've read more than a few of your posts now, Jim, and I know what's coming. You're going to answer with the complete opposite of everything I said, and the pattern repeats itself. So I'm done talking about this subject because it really doesn't bother me that much in the first place. I'm just stating the obvious.
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) But he had more RBIs in Detroit this week than Thome and Dye combined. Touche.
  21. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) He's not even flirting with the Mendoza line any more. Uribe being decent and all lately will make him tough for BA to pass. I wouldn't say that. Uribe is hitting .213 in July after a decent June (.308). But Brian is really starting to come into his own. He's going to hit another rough streak this year. We all know it's going to happen. But it's nice to see him finally adjusting to major league pitching.
  22. edit, disregard. I need to learn how to read. lol
  23. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:17 AM) Are those actual starts? Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you get credit for a game even if you come in and PH in the 9th. It's games they've played in, not games started. I thought about that. It still doesn't change the numbers TOO much for the starters.
  24. Mr. Commissioner, I've been a baseball fan for 20 years now, and let me just say I love what you've done for the game. When a pitcher hits the opposing batter, and the other team tries to retaliate, that is just immature and uncalled for. If they even THINK about trying to defend themselves, throw them out! Fines all around! You did just that. I'd like to congratulate you. The pitcher had every right to hit a guy. He has the ball, after all. No need to punish him. Oh yeah, and just to make SURE the other team doesn't try to retaliate, let's issue warnings to both teams! I have another problem. What is with this sliding hard into 2nd base on a double play ball? Why the violence?! These guys should just accept that fact that they are probably going to be out. And another thing, when the catcher is holding the ball while the runner is coming home, they should politely stop, shake the catchers hand, and accept the tag. No need to run him over. That's just uncalled for. Bush league. One last point. If the crowd is fired up, players shouldn't try to fire them up more! A baseball park is not a place for loud noise and cheering. How dare they get excited for their team?! That is all for now. Sincerely, SoxFan76 PS, go to hell Selig. I needed to get that out. I hope somebody drills Padilla. Or anyone, I don't care. Send a message. Get the team pumped up. It might be just what the doctor ordered.
  25. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:00 AM) Could you imagine if he didn't rest the players as much as he does? We're already hearing comments about fatigue and they get rested more than any other team I watch. I don't think he benches guys as much as we think. Through 94 games... Konerko 91 Podsednik (who does get benched against most lefties) 86 Crede 89 Thome (Remember NL games...) 88 Dye (injured for a little while, right?) 84 Pierzynski (catcher...) 82 That's still a lot. However, I disagree HOW Ozzie uses his bench. Although I really like what Pablo does for this team, he's brutal in left field. Mackowiak is brutal in center field (defensively). Cintron, can't complain. He's an all around solid player. Widger...I love the guy. He has a great bat and calls a great game. If you ask me he should be starting over Pierzynski.... Anyway, back to reality. My point? The White Sox have a great bench, but they're just that...bench players. Maybe one bench guy a day should be in the lineup. Even it out a little more, these... Ozuna Iguchi Thome Konerko Dye Crede Cintron Widger Mackowiak ...lineups piss me off. Especially against the TIGERS!!!
