5.5 GB is not a lot! The Indians were 15 back, for Christ's sake. It seems as if the Tigers have not hit a rough spot so far. They may have an extended losing streak in there somewhere, but EVERYTHING seems to be going right for them thus far. Craig Monroe with a grand slam? I know Vazquez is a head case, but come on. That young pitching staff has been playing over their heads. Not to say they aren't really freaking talented, but it's tough to keep that up for a whole year. Robertson proved that. And put me in the crowd who thinks this team has yet to fire on all cylinders. I still believe the pitching will come around.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:54 AM) thats what makes me so mad about the Ozzie B lineups, and the throw away games. I can count 5 games we gave away this season. You have to keep guys rested, but this is ...I mean was... a big series. Save the B team lineups for KC, Ozzie.

Brian Anderson just landed on the Mendoza line

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) This site will NEVER ban people for "negative comments" about the team. PERIOD. We will ALWAYS promote expressions of your opinion, negative, or positive. If you are negative, have a thick skin, debate your point, and life is good. I got banned for negative comments about the mod staff because they were talking about banning people who would post negative things about the team. I was askin for a banning. But you can only be pushed around for so long. edit, but who cares. I'm lovin that front page banner though.

Will the Local Media Shut Up about the Cubs
SoxFan76 replied to SouthSidePride05's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 05:20 PM) There have been several lately, discussing how he's improved at the plate, with him crediting Walker and the veterans for helping him. I know it's "not cool" to talk about media bias around here, and I'll agree it's gotten a lot better. But honestly, what has there been to talk about on the north side? Fans throwing garbage on the field? That won't be blown up as much as it should because it's a negative story. As soon as something newsworthy comes out, it will be back to normal. I just hope you guys aren't comparing me to Hangar (no offense man, I loved the media watches, but other people didn't). I don't lose sleep over this stuff, and the only time I read the paper is at work on chicagosports.com. I don't watch ESPN either. I watch CSN, which is VERY fair to both teams. It's good that nobody cares that the Sox are treated as 2nd class citizens, but to totally deny the fact that there is a bias is sort of ridiculous. I wasn't trying to make a big deal out of this..by the way. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 01:15 AM) Automatically replacing "f.uck" and "s.hit" with "fish" and "spiff" is about the definition of a policy WSI would adopt. I'm not sure if it's a joke or not, but I'm surprised Soxtalk has ventured down this road. Reply with, "you can write a legitimate post without using a four letter word," or "it devalues your opinion in the mind of others," but honestly -- who cares? Are there certain people browsing this website which we have to appease? That, IMO, is the reason WSI began organizing an effort to structure a family-orientated website. And what has all that effort payed off with? Perhaps a few plugs here and there, and in the past, Dave Wills. That's it. For how their members fear posting negative comments -- not to mention their language filter replacing BMAC with "nails on a chalkboard -- I wouldn't say it is. On its own, restricting language isn't a problem. What I forsee is this branching off onto other divisions of the website which people deem inappropriate. Yes, certain members sporadically use foul language in their posts. But is is really such a concern that visitors will literally wet themselves from reading "f.uck" or "s.hit" in a post? I'd like to understand the rationale behind such a decision. I took one for the team and got banned again. Somebody had to speak up. haha

Hawk-Does he actually listen to what spews out of his mouth???
SoxFan76 replied to gosox41's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Another anti-Hawk commentary. I love Hawk's enthusiasm, and I love how he acts when the other team does something good. He gets pissed, just like me. As for his excuses, it's no secret he is Reinsdorf's mouthpiece. If Hawk says something negative about a guy, you know he's getting traded or sent down in the near future. He's out to please his boss (in a total non-sexual way.... ). I think most of us do that at our own jobs. Forget about other announcers in other cities, listen to the other ones in Chicago for crying out loud! Kasper/Brenly, Farmer/Singleton, Santo/Hughes. I'm an Ed Farmer fan...I like his dry humor...but Hawk and DJ are the best team hands down. Singleton sucks...but he's a rookie (a n00b if you will...hehe). Kasper is your typical lame Cub announcer with that Chip Caray-esque voice. Brenly is alright I guess. Santo...enough said. Hughes is alright, but he's another typical lame Cubs announcer. (Welcome to beeeeeeeeeeeeautiful Wrigley field, home of the grrrrrrrrrrrrrreatest fans on earth. How bout it Ronnie? -- AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhasfljkasgjlkgalsdagjj Cubbies!) Anyway, Hawk ain't that bad. He's got something a lot of announcers lack--a personality. -
Will the Local Media Shut Up about the Cubs

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) I think the Sox articles in both papers are incredibly fair. Which specific ones do you mean? Almost all the articles about the Cubs are negative, is this what you want? Articles that take thought. Not some about how AJ likes to get under people's skin or how Ozzie said something someone didn't like. How about an article on Brian Anderson? I can't think of specific examples right now. But some nice articles about how player A has come a long way and could really be a great player in the major leagues. Or Vazquez and how he's working hard to figure out what's wrong. Not "Sox pitchers struggling, will they regain form?" -

QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) they aren't going to alienate half there readers. I'm not asking for 100% White Sox coverage. That would be hypocritical. But some fair articles like the Daily Southtown puts out would be nice. You know, ones that take some effort and talk about the team in a positive light. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) The best example of this would be a guy throwing his glove in the air and with a hell of a lot of luck catching the ball. Of course instead of an out the batter is granted 3 bases, or something around there. I did that at first base. They gave him the base.

Brian Anderson just landed on the Mendoza line
SoxFan76 replied to gojimthome's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Quick note about the Mendoza line: Mario Mendoza actually has a career .215 batting average. He was (allegedly) upset about the term "Mendoza line" because he didn't hit .200. He hit .215. Remember that catcher/announcer from Milwaukee? Bob Uecker actually had a .200 career average on the dot. -
QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) I know we have a couple of umpires who post here (Rex Hudler and someone in the U of I mob, I think). Not that those are the only guys I'd like to see respond -- I'd like to tap the collective wisdom of Soxtalk. Anyway, this happened in a friend's son's youth league game recently. Pop-up between the plate and the mound. Both the pitcher and catcher try to make a play on the ball and collide just as the catcher gets a mitt on it. The collision is so violent that the catcher's mitt flies off with the ball still in it -- in fact, the ball stays in the mitt as it lies on the ground. The catcher and pitcher are both injured on the play, and the catcher cannot retrieve his mitt. So, what do you think? Safe or out? If the catcher caught the ball and had posession, and THEN the glove flew off, he's out. (I think)

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:08 AM) Agreed. I like the fact that there is an ACTUAL and CONCRETE rulebook so to speak regarding bans. Mods who operate as separate entities and have personal agendas and simply interpret the rules as they see fit isnt really fun to be around. I hope the new rules here make this place more fun, because there are more and more people going to be joining here and getting into discussions, and its not fun to see what we've been seeing here before. I hope to be here for a while too and contribute more (dont be mad ......) Yeah, I have a feeling more and more people will be coming here because of the way they've been acting lately. You can't say "that girl's hot" without getting crap for it. Anyways, yeah I have nothing more to add. Sorry. haha

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) I never understood why people care what idiot sportswriters think. It has absolutley nothing to do with what happens on the field so what's the point of even paying attention? Anywho, I'm kind of surprised that people who care about the media so much are even Sox fans to begin with. Hey, I ain't going to lose any sleep over it, but I like being able to read up on stuff about the Sox. Instead it's all fluff, all the time. When the national media is more fair to the Sox than the local CHICAGO media...well that's pretty messed up. -
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) No idea why you think I care, cause I don't. I was joking.

Forget about the bullpen, we all know it needs improvement and that has been beaten to death. Besides, bullpens are usually a crapshoot. Going in, you usually know who your #1 and 2 are going to be, beyond that you never know. I'd like to see an upgrade at the leadoff spot. Podsednik has been good, not great for this team. He can't steal like he used to, and his OBP isn't THAT great. .350 ain't bad, but it could be better. I've grown tired of Podsednik lately. He's a great guy, but I think the Sox can do much better. I'd like to see another legit ace come into the equation. I'm sorry, I love everything that Buerhle has done for this team the last 6 years, but I see him as a really good number 2. I don't see him as an ace. I'm not asking for Liriano/Santana, but I'd like to see a legit ace replace Vazquez in the rotation. Unfortunately, that is easier said than done. Money talks. (oh yeah, and EVERY team wants a legit ace to replace their 5th starter, haha)

QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) unlike wsi, the mods here are really great - and don't ban people unless they truly deserve it... I understand that, and I truly appreciate it. Since I've been here, I really haven't seen a problem with trolls either. WSI has tons of trolls and that's their reason for being so strict. Plus, WSI is a little more high profile and lots of players/media members go there. They were featured on CBS one time as well I believe. They want to uphold a certain reputation--which is understandable. Basically, it's nice to come here and let loose once in awhile. My suspension is over at WSI, but I'm still here too. I don't think I'm going anywhere, sorry Steff. lol
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) Affirmative. I know who you were referring to, but I had some little problems at first. I got banned for 3 days at one point for trying to defend myself. I've been here like a month.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 08:58 AM) Who cares. Just because you don't doesn't mean everyone doesn't. I think the attention will draw farther and farther away from the Cubs as the 2nd half goes on. But next week, when they're mathematically eliminated (hehe), the Sox/Tigers will get most of the attention. They can only milk this Fire Dusty/What's wrong with the Cubs thing for so long. -
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) White Sox hatred has sky-rocketed since last year...I luv it. At first it kinda bothered me that people hated the White Sox so much...but then I realized why....yeah nobody really knows why they hate the White Sox. It's because they're good and not a cute and cuddly team. Now I love being the team everyone hates. It's kinda fun.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) I'll tell you what ... both of need to knock it off. This is exactly the typr crap we don't want around here. Let it go. Walk away. Don't think you have to get the last word. It's not worth it. PLEASE! I was just going to say, I moved on. I'm not going to dwell on things that happened in the past. After all, we're all Sox fans.

I have learned so much about baseball from Hawk Harrelson. And yet he has still forgotten more than I'll ever know. DJ has gotten A LOT better in the last couple years. But when he isn't with Hawk (on FOX broadcasts) he is a really really good announcer. I think he's intimidated by the Hawkeroo. With that said, they are far from the worst.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 08:34 AM) and the Armchair Moderating has to stop also ........... One of my biggest pet peeves: armchair mods. With that said, shouldn't this thread be in the Diamond Club?! Let the mods take care of it. That's what they're here for! I have to say, when I first came here I was immediately assaulted by certain posters over everything I said. I stuck it out because you gotta have a thick skin about things like that, especially over the internet. Personal attacks over the internet has to be the most pathetic thing in the world. What made it more pathetic is that grown adults were attacking me. So I am glad to see this policy set into place. But I'd still like to see this site keep the same "rebel" attitude.
