  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) The 3 behind Youk have more combined rbi's than our guys do, so don't make it seem like the guys behind Youk aren't doing their jobs. Loretta RISP .286 Ortiz RISP .279 Ramirez RISP .289 Iguchi RISP .346 Thome RISP .375 Konerko RISP .366 Argue with it. Go ahead. You're going to make yourself look really stupid.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) Very interesting stuff there. Pods has played less games and scored more runs than youk with a much lower obp. Sure. Jump on the Pods lovewagon and give credit to him for the proficiency of the three hitters behind him.
  3. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) Well, I disagree with you. He certainly has control over it to some degree. I won't deny that it depends on the people behind you driving you in. But explain this to me....If Youkilis has Loretta, Ortiz, and Ramirez batting behind him, why is he scoring less than 40% of the time while Pods is scoring 50% of the time? It's not complicated, you know: Loretta RISP .286 Ortiz RISP .279 Ramirez RISP .289 Iguchi RISP .346 Thome RISP .375 Konerko RISP .366 Pods is being made to look good by what's behind him, while Youkilis is not.
  4. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) needs more cowbell There you go.
  5. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Once again, Podsednik is doing a fantastic job of scoring when he does get on base. He has scored 65 of the 130 times he has reached base safely, or 50% of the time. The only other leadoff man who is at 50% or better is Jose Reyes. Even the great Kevin Youkilis, of the vaunted Boston Red Sox is not close to that. He has scored only 39.6 % of the time he gets on base. Yeah, that's relevent...OR NOT. How the hell does it matter? He has no control over it. That's like saying Javy is the best pitcher on our staff because the offense scores the most runs when he pitches.
  6. You want a trade? Day one: Garcia to SD for Linebrink and a middling pitching prospect. Day two: Podsednik, middling pitching prospect, Haeger, and Fields to TB for Crawford and Navarro. Day three: DFA Widger or throw him in the deal from day two if TB wants him. Trading's done for the season. New lineup: Crawford, LF Iguchi, 2B Thome, DH Konerko, 1B Dye, RF AJP, C Crede, 3B Uribe, SS Anderson, CF No more Freddy, no more Widger, we gain a good catcher prospect, a lockdown setup man, and a helluva LF signed for about a dollar fifty over a zillion years. We give up nothing that fit into our plans, anyway.
  7. Can't he choke a b**** like a normal person? Or at least like Wayne Brady or Dmitri Young? (listen to the song on the linked page) http://iacs5.ucsd.edu/~psanan/grc/waynebrady.html
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 03:08 PM) I wanted to go for something a little more realistic in this sig and I believe I accomplished that. That new sig is balls. Amazing work. As for the original post, let's forget the Cubs, call Minnesota, throw in Widger and Tracey so we can make the deal Flamethrowin' Freddy, Javy, Fields, Widge, & Tracey for Santana and Mauer!
  9. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) Abreu is not an elite base-stealer. Pods is. So all it takes to be an elite base-stealer is the willingness to run all the time and get caught more often than everyone else, wasting valuable outs and being a drain to your own offense? I'm sure Abreu would be willing to run at inappropriate times and get thrown out more often if told to do so. After all, I'm sure he'd love to be called "elite."
  10. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 10:24 AM) Scott is only one of 4 players in baseball with more than 25 steals and an OBP of .350 or higher. The other three are Ichiro, Jose Reyes, and Carl Crawford. That is pretty good company if you ask me. They shouldn't be company at all. Compared to all of them, Podsednik runs the bases like Konerko. Steals are fine and dandy, but being caught sucks ass and hurts your team's chances of scoring drastically. Ichiro: 28 steals / 2 caught Reyes: 39 steals / 9 caught Crawford: 32 steals / 8 caught Podsednik: 29 steals / 12 caught As you see, Pods is practically the opposite of the guys you compare him to. No, we don't really need him...But he's gotta be 4 or 5 times more valuable than Pods as a leadoff hitter. As for that "stolen base threat" trash...Abreu: 19 steals/ 4 caught He's better at it than Pods.
  11. QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) Can someone explain to me why Soxtalk has so much confidence in Vasquez? Because he has movement AND velocity. His only problem is that he hangs the occasional pitch up in the zone. That can be fixed by a pitching coach. Freddy's problem can't be fixed without mainlining HGH into his bloodstream.
  12. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) Here we go again with the Pods bashing. I know it makes you Saber guys excited to point out what a worthless player he is, but if you haven't noticed, he is doing a pretty decent job of getting on base lately. I suppose it would be the ultimate coup d etat for the WS Saber community to replace worthless Pods with the god-like Abreu. Not just the saber-community... Abreu: .443 OBP Pods: .353 OBP We'll keep it simple. Getting on base 44% of the time > getting on base 35% of the time It's not like Abreu is slow or anything. He steals bases, too. He gets caught less than Pods. He's better defensively, and he's certainly slugging a lot better. He's getting on base more than anyone not named Hafner or Mauer. It's hard to defend Podsednik with OBP against the guy who's 3rd best in all of baseball at reaching. That being said, we lead the league in runs scored. We don't need Abreu, but I sure as hell wouldn't turn him away if someone shopped him to us at the right price. I'd take Abreu and I'd have Pods shipped off to Florida or wherever the same day.

QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) but today's boxscore is THE epitome of our problems of late, with 3-4-5 hitters being mostly responsible the lack of production . Don't just make things up. It's bush league. I understand that it's fashionable and fun to ignore facts when posting, but you're going to get called out on it sometime. Go ahead and take a look at the box scores since the 4th of July. 3-4-5 have accounted for plenty of production. "Lack of production" my ass...Unless "Of late" means "today" in your world. 7-4 http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=260704104 7-5 http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=260706104 7-6 http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=260706104 7-7 http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=260707104 7-8 http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=260708104 7-9 http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=260709104 7-10 thru 7-13 all-star break 7-14 http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=260714110 7-15 http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=260715110
  14. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) I just don't see it straight up, even if we take his contract. The Phillies can get more for those two players than just Vazquez and Pods, and they know that. Agreed. If Kenny could pull that one off, he'd earn the right to walk around in public wearing a velvet pimp cape.
  15. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Garcia with another middle of the rad to poor outing. His ERA for today's game was 7.71. Nothing middle of the road about that. That's "On your feet for your Kansas City Royyyyaaaallllllssssss!!!!!!" bad right there.
  16. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) whupdeef***in doo......its almost august...i know hes still hittin like .340 in july, and he is coming around, but 3.5 months of batting .200 is something im not celebrating Stop your hatin' and bow to our hero. My guess is that you're jealous because he can fly and always gets the girl in the end.
  17. When the f*** is Marcus Thames going to stop doing his Jermaine Dye impression? 29-year old prospects do not exist!!! Oh, and Elmer Dessens can eat my ass.
  18. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 08:41 AM) I was referring to a Garcia for Schmidt and a bullpen arm. I'd never go for trading the young players like BA or Bmac So that conversation goes like this, right....? Kenny: Heya, Bri. I'll give you Freddy for Schmitty. Sabean: Why would I do that deal? Schmidt is better than Garcia! In fact, I could almost re-sign Schmidt for the money Garcia makes! Kenny: Ok, you drive a hard bargain. I'll let you throw in a bullpen arm to sweeten the deal for me.
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) Not 2 mention ever since the HR derby last year Abreu has seemed to lose all his power.... and that huge contract... I dont really want anything to do with him. Yeah, who'd want anything to do with a guy leading his league in OBP?
  20. With that single, he is now officially hitting .200.
  21. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) He damn well better find those qualities, and quick. What we're witnessing these last several starts is what happens when someoneGlendon Rusch with a sub 90 fastball and limited deception has no location. He's absolutely killed. Fixed. That's what Mark is when he can't toss the ball exactly where he wants it.
  22. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) I think its a longshot Politte is ever more than a mop-up guy again. 3 out of the past 4 seasons he's been pretty pathetic. Hence the "miraculous" qualifier.
  23. It's a shame, but it had to be done. I hope Clifford has a miraculous turnaround and big success in the majors (well, in the NL, anyway).
  24. It's a sad, sad thing...But it had to be done. I'll be sure to always remember the amzing unhittable 2005 Cliff.
  25. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) No, he'll get more than that. If Burnett got 5 years/$55 million, Buehrle will get 5 years/$75 million. Not a chance. A young Pedro Martinez he is not.
