  1. As far as each pitcher is concered, Javy is the better guy.

    Great peripherals, whereas Garcia's have completley fallen these past few years. He's a good candidate for "Josh Towers 2007."

    But it does depend on the return, and that package of Otsuka + Masset+ Danks rumored for Vazquez would be tough for me to turn down.

  2. Nothing yet.

    I don't like him a whole lot, but as of now our bullpen is still rusty. If KW can somehow add Jamie Walker and someone else, I'm all for it, but not yet.

    His year was indeed terrible, but in 60-70 IP's anything can happen. He's just as likely to revert back to his 05 form as he is to pitch like he did in 06 next year.

    I'm not gonna buy that, and neither would Cashman. He would take Crede, Garcia, and Broadway in a second and run back to New York laughing his ass off.

    My ass he would.

    You don't trade the best player in baseball for a 3B who's only had one good season, and it was good at best, a #3 starter, and a guy who's only had sip of coffee in AAA.

    Your right he would be laughing his ass off. Of how pathetic of an attempt it was to acquire Rodriguez.

  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 07:35 AM)
    Zito and Matsuzaka are Boras clients. Jason Schmidt is 33, going to receive probably much more money than he is worth and I'm not sure if he's better than what we already have. And that pretty much does it for the free agent market. On the trade market? Maybe Dontrelle(not a fan) and who else? Besides the obvious trading of one starter to make room for Brandon is there really anything else Kenny can do to improve the staff?

    Thoughts? Ideas?

    I'm not a huge Matz fan, and stay away from Schmidt and Zito.

    How about Mike Mussina?

    Won't need a 5-year deal, great DIPS pitcher. He'd be my choice.

  5. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 08:48 PM)
    I feel sorry for the Mets fans, but really, screw you New York!

    Lets go Phillies!

    I don't.

    Those guys are jerks who brag about how Jose Reyes is the greatest baseball player who ever lived and how Carlos Beltran is the unanimous MVP.

    I hope this team gets killed.

  6. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 10:57 AM)
    Ok, so how exactly do they systematically determine the odds of a player being injured?

    Vegas, like these stat sites (BP,) is all about suckering people for their money.

    I must admit, I was a member for 3-months and I wasn't completley impressed. The articles were a good read, but you can find all of the good stuff on the DT Cards and the stuff on the PECOTA cards not needed for viewing.

    PECOTA is still a very god projection system though.

    I can't believe you actually believe this.

    C - Pierzynski

    1B - Konerko

    2B - Iguchi

    3B - Crede

    SS - Uribe

    LF - Podsednik

    CF - Rowand

    RF - Dye

    DH - Everett

    C - Pierzynski

    1B - Konerko

    2B - Iguchi

    3B - Crede

    SS - Uribe

    LF - Podsednik

    CF - Mackowiak/Anderson

    RF - Dye

    DH - Thome

    The starting lineup changed by a whole 2 players, 2 PLAYERS! So if the Sox had Carl Everett and his .745 OPS as well as Rowand and his .736 OPS in this year's lineup instead of Anderson and Thome the Sox would be characterized as a tough, scrappy, well balanced lineup as opposed to an unbalanced, non-scrappy all power lineup and they would be better off? Seriously? Here's why the Sox won last year, it's really really simple.

    2005 Team ERA = 3.61 (Best in the AL)

    2005 Team ERA+ = 123 (Best in the AL)

    2005 Runs allowed per game = 3.98 (3rd best in the AL | CLE: 3.96, ANA: 3.97)

    2005 Homeruns hit = 200 (4th most in AL)

    Last year's offense sucked ass they put up 4.57 Runs/G which was the 6th worst in the AL, luckily the pitching held the opposing team's to 1-3 runs nearly every damn game so if the s*** offense managed to knock in a run in the first along with a 2 run HR in the 8th the Sox would likely win because the bullpen was the s*** last year thanks to career years from Hermanson, Cotts, Politte and who knows maybe even Jenks.

    Let's say in 2007 the Sox keep this offense intact and they produce the exact same they have this year and by some magical stroke of luck the 2007 White Sox pitching staff pitches equally as good as the 2005 staff. The 2007 White Sox would win around 120 games.

    VERY good post.

    Home runs > Speed/Bunting/Scrappy Lineups.

    This team is suffering becuase we aren't pitching, both out of the rotation and bullpen.

    The offense has slumped, but looking at the big picture, people should not complain.

  8. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 10:43 PM)
    He is an excellent hitter. His defense isn't as good as some are making it out to be. His range is not very good and he is slow.

    Yea, I agree. He still has a very good arm, but he's not the defensive player he was years ago.

  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:58 PM)
    This team can't catch a break. The umpires are really out to get us. That last pitch to Konerko was a ball. It wasn't even close to being a strike!

    Lol, A ball??

    That wa sa terrific pitch right on the corner, and Konerko knew it too. The ump hadn't even signaled for an out and Paulie was walking back to the dugout.

  10. QUOTE(kevo880 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 05:51 PM)
    we need a leadoff hitter somehow

    Eh....

    I'm not a huge fan of the whole "Lineup order is EXTREMELY important" type thing.

    I actually think Iguchi would fit well in the #1 spot.

  11. We need that power he hit for in 2005.

    .283/.327/.506 is great from a SS with a good glove like Juan.

    But he hasn't sustained his numbers since then.

    If we can upgrade please do so. But we have other positions (LF, possbily 3B) to address first.

    Just to strike up conversation, how do you guys feel about Julio Lugo?

  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 12:44 PM)
    Not surprising

    Twins are stupid for even trying to pitch him again. It's not worth ruining him forever, which I'm guessing after today he is done for the season.

    Hopefully he didn't tear anything.

    Yea this was a dumb move.

    As much as I hate to say it, this team is probably a playoff team without Liriano.

    But Liriano was a dumbass too. Pitching with pain and trying to be the hero is a huge no-no. He got lucky, he really could have sustained a huge injury.
