QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) Uh, they set the season TV schedule before the season starts, when all they know is the team matchups not pitching ones. Yeah, I know. But still. . .
-
You know what I find most intriguing about this match-up is why WGN would rather show the Cubbies at the Mets instead of this game.

Pablo isn't a bad move in left, especially when you consider Pod's numbers against Santana. Pablo is acutally batting .286 against Santana in 21 career AB's. An argument could even be made for Alomar who is batting .250 against Santana, not bad when considering AJ is only batting .091 against him. I'm just curious to see how he handles Contreras and the rest of the pitching staff.

I don't really understand why a lot of posters are considering this a lost cause before these guys have even played the game. For one thing, Santana has been far from unhittable recently. This is his record over his past 3 starts: Against Tampa Bay at home: 3 runs 6 hits in 6 innings, 7 SO Minn wins Against Cleveland at Jacobs field: 2 runs 5 hits in 7 innings, 7 SO Minn wins Against Texas at Ameriquest field: 5 runs 7 hits in 7 innings, 7 SO Minn loses The White Sox have shown that they can have success against Santana at home this season. Remember in April when Sanatana allowed 2 runs in 7 innings and was only able to strike out 6? Thome was even able to hit a HR off of Santana. The White Sox went on to win 7-1. Sure, Santana and the Minnesota bullpen were struggling at the beginning of the season, but the point is is that Santana isn't the shutout-game over force people think he is. Secondly, Contreras has had success against Minnesota this season, albeit post injury. In April, Contreras was able to pitch 8 innings, allowing only 2 runs against the Twins at the Cell. The White Sox went on to win the game 7-3. The only caveat to those statistics is that neither team is what it was in April. Minnesota has stepped up in both the offensive and pitching departments, while the White Sox have faltered. I personally am not too concerned that Ozzie will be placing Alomar in the game this evening, this series is much too important to rest the starting line-up. Tonight's game is going to come down to whether the cliched statement of when the real White Sox will present themselves, especially against an injured Twins team.

guys i've seen a few of you mention that Zito may be back on the block again. Is there a source for this, or just speculation?
-
Could this be the beginning of the end for Pods?
-
Should Ozzie be fired for berating Jon? Of course not. But it certainly should be added to the list of Ozzie's indiscretions this season. This isn't a reliever called up from Charlotte, this is a member of your starting pitching who has been very consistent for you as of late. Do you want to get him tossed - suspended? Plus, you are asking him to completely change his delivery just to make a point - a pointless one at that. Ozzie's job is to make his players look good, not the other way around.

Pablo might as well have picked that ball up and gave it to the 1B, it was nearly bunted directly to him Another waste of a base runner
-
That really was the worst bunt I have seen in a long time
-
BA Pablo o e o Gooch To lead it off - let's hope they can get at least one run in
-
Here it comes, the Freddy we have come to know and love
-
stop helping him out by swinging on the first pitch, that was ridiculous

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) I take it no one misses Frank Thomas (or should I say, Cade McNown) throwing the ball in that same situation? Huh? the dp made up for his AB earlier
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) Did it look deliberate? not at all, it just got away from him from what i can tell
-
Konerko definitely makes up for it there - that ball was smoked
-
add another home run swing out to Konerko's count
-
Freddy please don't let this be the beginning of the end with that walk
-
This is a very winnable game for the White Sox, Koronka has been struggling mightily and has not performed well against the White Sox. Provided the White Sox get over their long ball syndrome tonight, I'm not too concerned about the offense. It will all come down to Garcia - let's hope he can stay away from that one big inning.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) Anyone find it kinda funny that they plunked Pods...our speed guy....in the shin....in the 9th....with 2 outs....and the game out of reach? Honestly, what difference does it make? That is not the focal concern at the moment at all. The last thing this team needs is to add to the long list of distractions it already has.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) The Zumaya comments were very Dusty-ish. I still remember how Dusty would beach about players posing after their homers against the Cubs, even though Sosa was hopping half the way towards Lake Michigan when he'd hit his homers. "beach" that swear filter is hilarious
-
Yes, Vincent Padilla is Ozzie's BIGGEST concern right now. Stop getting so hung up on what other players have done or what they might do - stop getting upset that a pitcher pumped his fist after striking you out, stop plotting revenge because a player bumped you. It's starting to become obvious that some White Sox players might be allowing their minds to be played with during this difficult stretch.

You know, I don't think it's as much as a BS argument as you think. I remember reading somewhere that the White Sox starters have pitched more innings than any other team this season. I was finally able to find the stat which supported that point, I went to espn.com and looked under pitching stats for 2006, when I apply the "as starter" filter, I found what I was looking for: the White Sox lead the major leagues in innings pitched by starting pitching at 606.2 innings. They also lead the majors in innings pitched in 2005 interestingly enough during the regular season. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggreg...amp;season=2006 Is it significantly different from other teams? Maybe not, but I wouldn't toss Jon's statement off as BS.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) I don't think so. How many starting pitchers actually like being taken out of a game? I'm sure there are plenty. If you know you don't have enough left to get the remaining outs - would you want to then give up the go-ahead run?
-
Anyone think that Garland's comment may be a bit of a critique towards Ozzie? I know I have (and I'm sure others have too) put the idea out there that Ozzie overworked his starters early in the season to avoid the bullpen. It would not surprise me to know that some of the pitching staff was a bit ticked that they were left out there a bit too long in certain games

Konerko has to do at least something here
