QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:11 PM) if the yanks aren't winning will we see mariano? I don't think so, I think Torre would wait if the game goes into extra innings for when the heart of the Yankee lineup will be coming back up again -

Pods has a .091 average against RJ, worth the risk with Ozuna -

One positive thing to note is that Johnson generally starts to falter late in games. Plus, the White Sox are going to have see the Yankee bullpen in some shape or form, and I like their chances against everyone but Rivera, and even he can be suspect at times -

Contreras has to minimize the damage here, I'm concerned with the way the ump is calling balls/strikes, White Sox might have a hard time playing catch-up -

Pods doesn't have great numbers against Johnson at all, and provided Ozuna has fully healed, I think an argument could be made that he just might field better than Pods could tonight at Yankee stadium -

Widger's stats against Johnson: .250 BA in 12 AB's, .308 OBP Ozuna's stats against Johnson: .500 in 4 AB's, .500 OBP Widger just might do alright at the plate, it's how the game will be called that is a bit concerning. Contreras will keep him in line though -

One thing I have noticed with how Ozzie has handled his SP's this season is that he expects them to go very far into the ballgame. He seems determined to get them the win, even if they are faltering at the mound. I don't know if that has anything to do with how they are performing, but it seems like he has overworked his starters in quite a few games when a move to the bullpen would have been a better choice. -

Timlin (if he comes in) has been a bit sketchy lately. He had a late game implosion against the Rays the other night. It wouldn't be impossible to put some up against Timlin -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) The Sox already faced BJ Ryan, who is every bit as good as Papelbon and they got a run off him, so yeah, they have. Right. But here is the thing with that game. Jon Gibbons (BJ manager) pannicked and put Ryan out there in the 8th. Ryan ended up working 2 full innings. Ryan mowed down 4 guys, I remember seeing the look on AJ's face after he K'd, he said he just didn't know how to hit the guy. With Ryan's style of pitching, he eventually is going to tire, especially for two innings of work. I was not surprised when the White Sox tied the game. It was obvious Ryan was really tired. But, if you are down by 2 runs in the top of the 9th against Ryan who is fresh coming out of the bullpen - do you feel that confident? Same argument applies to Papelbon, I will be really surprised this evening if he gives up a run. But to each their own. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) The Sox (that's White Sox, you will refer to the Red Sox as Red Sox, BoSox, or Sawks) eat good closers for breakfast. I'll take your word for it, but the White Sox have not encountered a closer of Papelbon's caliber this season. BTW pardon me, I didn't get the memo re "the sox" -

On another note, Lester is up to to 69 pitches through 4. Wait until you see the tandem of Rudy Seanez/Julian Tavarez. Pale hose are guaranteed to see runs off those guys -

Widge hasn't had that bad of a night, he has taken pitches well, and he almost had a extra base hit on that ball that just went foul -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) Lets keep throwing fastballs to a dead fastball hitter. That run should have never scored, as Crede screwed up by not throwing to 2nd to get the force. I can't blame Crede for throwing to first instead, it didn't look like he would have made the throw to 2nd in time -

I have a feeling that the White Sox batters are going to have a field day with Lester the second time up . . .
