  1. Everybody remember one thing: The Twins played the entire season on 2 key factors: Adrenaline & Momentum.  With the prospect of the team being contracted, the players literally played for their jobs, & their fans responded in tow.  Yes, the Twins are more of a fundamental team than the Sox, but, they are also prone to error as well.  This year should be different, we have a new baserunning coach (Santana, also 1B coach), new 3B coach (Kimm), & hopefully that itself will make a difference.  Don Cooper seems to have the pitching staff's collective heads on straight, while trying to undo the s*** that Nardi f***ed up.  I also believe alot of the Twins had career years, & last year some of them (Mintkiewicz, Koskie, Guzman) struggled at many points of the year.  Who we really need to focus on against the Twins are the players like Rivas, who for some reason had our number constantly, & while we may have solved Joe Mays, we really, really, really need to solve Kyle Loshe, who looked like Greg Maddux every time he pitched against us. Radke and Milton are beatable, & that pen can't do that s*** back to back years, & I agree, Guardado had a career year, if he gets 30 saves this year, I'll be suprised.  This division is ours for the taking, the Sox just have to remain focused, if they do so, they can run away with it.

Played for their jobs? Trust me, I'd want pretty much any one of their guys on the Sox. Don't cry over the Twins, they'd find work (probably for a less asshole of an owner).

Anyone who automatically thinks we can run away with this division is doing something VERY stupid by overlooking a very solid team. We can beat them, but it is far from a guarantee.

True, but they can't play with that same emotion back to back years. We walked into last season with alot of question marks, while they were pretty solid top to bottom. Believe me, I would definitely not underestimate the Twins, but those question marks we had last year, I feel pretty confident we answered them the 2nd half of last year, during the early parts of the winter meetings, & just this past Wednsday. The ball is in the Sox' court. So, while not underestimating the Twins, I really like our chances of running away with this division.

  3. Well now that Rowand knows that the CF job is his this year, let's see if he can respond. In case he falters, we always have Borchard as a reliable option. I think with a full season though, Rowand should do pretty well. But having Borchard does make it a little bit easier.

  4. Maybe it's just me, but I think that this year, CLee is going to put up some monster numbers. Remember, he started to turn it on late in the year. He is a legitimate .300/30HR/100RBI guy per year. And perhaps, maybe even a little bit better in LF this year. I think it's going to happen.

  5. So let me get this straight...

Our rotation is Colon, Buehrle, Garland, Wright and Rauch....which is possibly amongst the best in the league, and if our #3-#5 aren't that good, then our #1 and #2 are....we were .500 with one great starter last year, so we'll probably win atleast 88 games or so guarenteed this year, if Garland and Wright don't improve and Rauch is just as bad as Glover/Ritchie in the rotation.  We'll most likely win 90-95 games with our rotation though, atleast.

Our bullpen is Koch, Marte, Gordon, Glover, Wunsch, and Almonte along with maybe someone from the group of Ginter, Munoz, Sanders or someone else(maybe even Porzio, but don't count on it).  With our surplus of lefty-reliever prospects, and Munoz being the best of them, I'd say that Wunsch is expendable...because even if we turn Munoz into a starter, we still have Ring and Sanders and Stewart....we have so many lefty-reliever prospects it's insane.

If this is correct, and it is, we have a sick pitching staff with our offense...hell, if this pitching staff was being supported by a weak lineup and defense, it could still win 75-80 games...and then you add our lineup, which is among the best in the majors....I don't think we are even going to f*** around.  We will blast out of the gate and continue the winning.  That's all we can hope for anyways.

20 years ago, we nearly tied a team record for wins, but were beaten in the postseason.  10 years ago, we had a very good team, but were outplayed by Toronto.  We had an even better team in 94, but our season was cut short by the strike.  This could be our year, guys....I ain't s***tin you.  We got the team to do it.  I'm probably be a bit too optimistic.  But our division, in my eyes, is pretty much clinched.  We were a team that should have won more games last year....we were very unlucky as a whole.  The Twins were a team that should have lost more games last year...they were very lucky as a whole.  Don't expect that trend to continue...I think we could seriously win the division by 10-15 games....it won't be as close as people will expect it be going in.

Great Post. Just one thing I'd change though, don't give up Wunsch!!! A LH setup man is almost as valuable as a 15 game winner! And Wunsch might be one of the best in the business. You bring him in for one of those crucial 1 or 2 lefty hitters, & let him do his thing. Then, turn it over to Gordon in the 7th, Marte in the 8th, & Koch in the 9th. And if Wunsch is expendable down the road, let's see what other teams would be willing to bargain in return. Rather than that, again, great post, & I'll take it a step further. If everything jells, we could be looking at a possible 100 win season, then make those god-awful Yankees sorry that they didn't pay attention to Colon a little bit more. The World Series: The 86 year drought could be coming to an end. AWESOME!!!! :D  :headbang

  6. f*** HIM! I dont want Gordon. He's just gonna cause problems by b****ing all year that he thinks he should be the closer. He caused all kids of bulls*** for the cubs. Think it will be any different here? f*** HIM!

Actually, when I heard about this signing, we hadn't traded for Colon yet, which meant Osuna was still on the team. Knowing that the Sox already had 1 solid closer (Koch) and 2 potential closers (Osuna, Marte), I can't believe he wouldn't sign with them, & then b**** about closing knowing damn well that would be out of the question. If it's a 1 year deal, perhaps he wants to showcase his talent for other teams possibly looking for a closer for 2004. But right now, he would be a good setup man, & wouldn't even consider him as the closer unless Koch & Marte completely tanked, which isn't likely.

  7. Well, Alou is better then Lee or at least proven and Sosa and Maggs, well thats a break even, but we know that almost all sports writers will give Sosa the nod, because of the homer and fame.

As far as Patterson and Rowand, I am not a huge Patterson fan, but he is very talented and well Rowand isn't near that talented so it makes sense.

Now as Lee grows up this season (He will) then they will be better, especially once Borchard steps in next season or real late this season.

Perhaps, but the Dodgers? The Dodgers??? Don't think so!

  8. Check out what Tim Kurjkian of ESPN.com has as the best outfields in the game.

    Rating the Best Outfields

And yet he thinks the trio of Sosa, Alou, & Patterson is better than Mags, CLee, & Rowand. This is the exact reason I hate those assclowns over there at ESPN. Boston's is better, hell no! The Reds? You gotta be kidding me! The Dodgers? Not a chance! Of all the baseball writers, Kurjkian has to be the worst. He never, ever gives the Sox any acknowledgement. If it weren't for Phil Rogers & Rob Neyer contributing, I might never read the MLB section at ESPN.com. The White Sox not having one of the best outfields. ABSURD!!!

  9. Not defending ESPN..... but..... besides the recent MB news, have the White Sox (or sCrUBS for that matter) done anything to warrant changing the White Sox ESPN homepage since that Maggs/Griffey rumor was substantiated by KW? You can't report on what this team isn't doing..... and that's signing players to improve a .500 team.

In regards to news, you're probably right. More than anything, it disgusts me to watch ESPN or read ESPN.com regarding their MLB coverage. The way it seems, when they report on MLB, it's usually the same damn teams (Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Braves, Dodgers, Phillies, Cubs), & I wish they would throw the White Sox a bone every now and then. It's biased coverage, IMO.

  10. And I sure as hell don't mean the Red Sox. There are other MLB teams besides the Yankees & Red Sox. Even on ESPN.com on the White Sox home page, they still have as their lead story, the proposed trade of Mags for Griffey Jr. Nothing as of late, not even Buerhle's rejected deal. ESPN is very biased towards the White Sox, & the city of Chicago in general. Thank goodness for sports talk radio and local coverage.

  11. Why am I getting the feeling that this will be Jack McDowell all over again. Black Jack should've never left the Sox, nor Alex Fernandez, or Mark Buerhle. I'm tired of seeing our starting pitching go and succeed elsewhere. Somebody get KW out of there. This is getting on my nerves now.

  12. Just registered today, & this board looks so much better than the MLB sponsored White Sox board. This board reminds me of the Chicago Bears message board, but this one allows you to say whatever you want (not that I'll be using any type of obscene language :D). Cool. A board for White Sox fans. Simply awesome.
