  1. As to the mechanical issues Floyd has, KW claims they watched film of him all day yesterday and spotted something they believe they can correct. Seems they are getting quite cocky about their ability to do this.
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) My guess is a deal with the Mets. Right now they're waiting for the Zito negotiations to finish, and if the Mets don't end up with him, or trade with a team like the A's, they come back to the Sox looking for Javy Vazquez. It'll cost ya Milledge, Humber + fringe spect though. That's actually a really solid guess. In regards to the deal on a larger scale that materialized, he may be referring to some sort of deal of Garcia for Milledge and Humber that was discussed. The Mets may have decided that was too stiff a price to pay and approached the A's, where Billy Beane asked for Milledge, Humber, AND Pelfrey for Harden. Omar finds this deal even more repugnant and returns to negotiations with KW, thus, his statement of the deal "coming full circle."
  3. Don't have a damn clue what he is alluding to there.
  4. Apparently the Cubs have signed Ted Lilly for 4/40. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6246392
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) From the White Sox side? I make them add in a pitching prospect (Danks-level) and have the Sox hold onto Podsednik, maybe more. From Texas's side? I figure if KW is that stupid, I try to bargain for an A ball pitcher or two just to see if he'll bite, but I jump at it. And Jon Daniels would laugh at you.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) Knowing that I could hold Zito and get draft picks for him, or that I could make an effort to sign him, or that I could deal him midseason, and considering the fact that Zito's overall value is so ungodly much higher than Crede, yes, I absolutely make that deal, and getting another OF that I could move somewhere else or fill a hole would just be icing on the cake. Well Balta, I suppose I think you have a somewhat more realistic way of looking at our player's value than most... Not sure if I missed it...would you do this Buehrle deal for Young?
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) In that hypothetical, I'd make that deal in a fraction of a second. Knowing that Zito would walk in a year?
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) You can't trade Joe Crede for two free agents, and ever hear of a guy named "Eric Chavez?" -n00b What is the point in discussing this fictious situation? Are you trying to compare Chavez to Uribe, Young to Crede, Payton to Podsednik and Zito to Buehrle???? There is a reason I asked you to imagine Zito was a FA after NEXT season. The point was to try and put you in someone else's shoes for once. We all get attached to our own players, and sometimes we are a little unobjective when it comes to their value. I understand the metrics say Young isn't Juan Uribe defensively, but he is still a solid all-around player, and an all-star at that. Additionally, Ozzie is a big fan of him, contrary to what another poster seemed to think would be the case. Anyways, excuse me for trying to get you to look at it from a Texas perspective. Carry on, with your black and white tinted glasses.
  9. Well, let's ask ourselves this question.... If Barry Zito were still with the A's, and was a FA after 2007' instead of this year, would you be in favor of a deal sending Joe Crede to the A's for Zito and Jay Payton?
  10. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) Because Young is a butcher at short? Because with the exception of one season Young has a drastic split in offensive numbers between home and away? Because Buehrle has more value than that? Because it puts the Sox in a weaker position because we would still have a hole (instead of a semi-hole at the moment) in LF and two SS signed for around the same price? Are you suggesting you would rather entertain the notion of Humberto Sanchez for Mark? I don't know about you, but at least this gives us back a quality player in return, at an affordable salary. It also solves our leadoff man quandry, as clears payroll for perhaps another move, maybe even for a deal including a Left fielder.
  11. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) Buehrle >>>>>>>> Young. And then to throw in Pods? C'mon, we better be getting back some young pitching. Hopefully LHP. I'll take a workhorse LHP over just about any player out there. Well, Young will make only 3.5 million next year and has a club option for 4 million in 08'. I think considering Mark's FA status after 07', this would be a fairly even deal.
  12. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) I hope to hell we are getting MUCH MUCH more than Michael Young. MUCH more. Did I mention we should get A LOT more! Why?
  13. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:38 PM) Supposedly a local radio station in Texas is mentioning a possible Buehrle/Pods for Michael Young deal being discussed. A couple of guys in my sim league are talking about it. Just throwing it out there. Thanks for the news. That would be interesting, and perhaps lead to another deal to acquire a center fielder, ahem, CC.
  14. The Braves have acquired Rafael Soriano for Horacio Ramirez. http://braves.scout.com/2/598302.html Nice deal for the Braves.
  15. Levine reporting anything today?
  16. Fantastic. Hopefully this will help continue to move things along
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Yes, I would definitely consider it. We're not going to sign him if he becomes a FA, as a lot of big market names will be in the mix. Well, it has been widely speculated that Wells would go to Texas, where he is originally from. However, will Texas have that kind of dough if they sign Zito for $100 million? If Wells doesn't want to be here, he won't agree to an extension. And if he won't agree to an extension, there isn't a chance in hell I am giving up Broadway/Anderson + for 1 year of him
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) That's what we're saying...if we can extend him, then I don't care who we give up for him. Would you be willing to commit to a 6/120 contract to keep him here? I for one would rather just give Brian another chance this year, and if he doesn't work out, make the effort to sign Wells next year when he becomes a FA.
  19. Looks like the Sox may have been after John Lackey... The Chicago White Sox are asking for starting pitcher John Lackey from the Los Angeles Angels, and not Ervin Santana, for third baseman Joe Crede, a high-ranking White Sox official said, but talks have stalled. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/20...-bargains_x.htm
  20. Yeah, he is a little impatient at the plate and swings at some pitches clearly out of the zone. If we are going to talk to the Rays, I hope we talk about one player only; CC
  21. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:27 AM) if we sign bonds, i dont tune in next season. book it. I cannot fathom such a move. If KW really was in the market for a power-hitting, malcontented left fielder, I think we would have heard about much more interest from the White Sox regarding Manny Ramirez. It won't happen.
  22. Well that's some interesting news, finally. Kenny's comments about some things that would make him step back and reaccess both short and long term goals seems to indicate he has had discussions about some impact players. Me likey. Joe Maddon's comments also seem to indicate that one of Baldelli or Crawford is available, albeit for the right price. Would much rather see Crawford in black pinstripes than Rocco, although, I suppose I could learn to live with Mr. Baldelli. Additionally, it seems that KW and Cashman did indeed discuss ARod, as his comments about his hesitancy to make the Yankees better, and Cashman's hesitancy to effectuate the same in our case, seems to indicate that major pieces were discussed. That can only lead to one conclusion in my mind: that a deal involving ARod for Crede and one of our staters was indeed on the table. Some good stuff here. Let's hope KW can pull off something typical of his usual genius in the next 42 hours or so.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) It appears the Mets will be sending Brian Bannister to the Royals for Burgos. I like the moves Moore is making thus far.
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) Well consider that we gave up Tyler Lumsden who most people would say would probably have better stuff than Broadway for Mike MacDougall who's had arm problems. I think Kenny would seriously consider a Burgos for Broadway deal, IF, he could get some young starting pitching in say a deal with the Rangers or Mets for Garcia or Vazquez. Burgos would be under our control for about 4 seasons as well, and he fits the Sox's mould of a hard throwing reliever (albeit his control needs work). The Macdougal deal was done in an effort to fortify our bullpen at midseason to make a postseason run. I can't see KW doing something like this in the offseason, as he has shown he is more apt to acquiring relievers on the cheap. I think Broadway has shown enough in his short time with us that he can be a starter in this league within a year or 18 months. To deal him away for a shaky (and ANOTHER) hard-throwing righty wouldn't be worth that price in my eyes.
