Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
iamshack replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) After Freddy, Contreras should be dealt next. More talented, yet older than the other SPs. I would think Jose would be the last one dealt of any of our starters. I am not sure anyone is very clear on what the market would be for him, and I think his value would be greater to us than it would be to other teams. Probably best to just let him ride out his extension and hope for the best with him... -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) I would rather keep Bmac and Santana, and then move another starting pitcher for the prospects needed to make the Crawford deal. The AL Central, the toughest divison in baseball, is basically a freakin arms race. Whomever has the best pitching wins. The problem with that idea is that the DRays want mlb-ready pitching, not pitching prospects. They have to understand that any chance of them ever competing has to ride on their young pitching overachieving before they become eligible for FA. Undoubtedly, they want another potential frontline starter who has yet to reach arbitration to pair with Kazmir. In my opinion, they would demand Santana, since they have seen more of him, along with other valuable pieces, such as Fields and/or Jenks. It's unfortunate that we dealt Cotts already, because he might have been someone to pair with either Santana or McCarthy who they might have viewed as capable of starting for them. And their is no doubt in my mind, that were we to obtain Santana, their opening offer would demand BOTH Santana and McCarthy for Crawford. There is a reason a deal didn't go down prior to the Gary Matthews signing involving Santana for Crawford; that reason has to be that the DRays wanted significantly more than just Santana. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) Does this have something to do with the Buehrle for Crawford rumor? Any word on who we are talking to Tampa about? Nothing to do with the Buehrle rumor. On Saturday afternoon, while on the air with Chet Coppock, Levine stated Carl Crawford remained KW's top priority this offseason. He didn't necessarily say there were ongoing discussions, or mention any packages being discussed. More simply implied that KW is trying in any way possible to acquire Crawford from the DRays. QUOTE(striker62704 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) I think Kenny is just doing this to pressure Crede into signing. Remember last year how Garland and Contreras were both included in rumors then they both ended up signing contract extensions for sub market value? That immediately came to my mind as well. Seems to me he is aiming his comments at Joe, to add pressure for him to lower his expectations relative to any extension he signs. Doesn't seem like KW would undercut his position by discussing openly the WS position on a Crede extension if not to make a statement to a player, just as he did last season with Jon and Jose. This was a calculated move by him. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) I will cancel my DirecTV MLB package, and pass on purchasing any tickets next season. I will not go to ST, or any games, nor will I watch any games if that SOB winds up on the White Sox. Happily, we already do have a DH, so at least that's something. He said he would like to keep his relationship with Bonds what it is currently, not that he was interested in signing him, folks. I think he dismissed the idea quickly and graciously.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:08 AM) I'm surprised no one has mentioned that Levine said the Sox have been talking with Tampa. With the rumors regarding the Sox trying to get Ervin Santana, I think this means that KW is trying to see what he would have to acquire in order to trade for Crawford. I fully agree. As I said earlier, I am sure Kenny has asked Tampa what players it would take to get Crawford (even if they weren't currently on our team), and is exploring deals on how to get those players so he could then deal them to Tampa for Crawford. I think Crawford is the ultimate goal in all of this. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) I wish more people would take into account the very real possibility that Joe Crede simply had a career year last year, and didn't just develop after several full season in MLB where he was a consistently mediocre (.250) hitter. He still has Boras as his agent, he still doesn't walk, and he still has a bad back. Oh, and we still have Josh Fields in our system. Crede is at peak value right now, all things considered, so trading him isn't exactly a bad idea. Now I think we could get a better deal done than this one, but that's a different story. I smell what you are stepping in, but remember, Joe showed sudden and significant improvement beginning in September of 2005, not just last season. Even more interestingly, it came after he injured his wrist in Oakland in August. Seems to me he figured something out while he was out with that injury. And the fact that that improvement carried over and continued into 06' leads me to believe he has turned a corner offensively, for whatever reasons. When players have career years, it normally does not carry over from offseason to offseason if that improvement was simply a flash in the pan. I tend to buy into the idea that a light went on for Joe, and he is finally fulfilling the expectations most everyone had for him when he came out of the minor leagues as a prized prospect. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 09:24 AM) LOL. 5/75 is LONG GONE as a possiblity. Let me put it to you this way, if you were a GM, would you rather give 6/100 to Carlos Lee as a mediocre corner OFer, or to Joe Crede as a GG 3B? Kiss Joe goodbye, because he is as good as gone. I think any deal KW makes involving Crede will set off a flurry of further moves. I imagine he has a bunch of scenarios and contingencies mapped out, and is talking with teams like Texas, Florida, Tampa Bay, and maybe even Boston about deals which could possibly happen were he to get certain players for Crede and Garcia, or one of our other starters. There is little doubt in my mind that were he to deal Crede, especially if it were Santana, that it wouldn't be just the first step in whatever grand scheme he has in his mind. Who knows...maybe the deal speculated above that saves $ clears way for a potential Manny to the southside deal, or as some others have hoped, a Crawford or MCab deal. I just have a difficult time imagining Kenny unloading Crede and Garcia and not addressing some of our other weaknesses as a result of that trade. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) However, Figgins would fit in very nicely atop our order. Plus financially speaking this is a very solid move since Garica and Crede are due major raises (or in Garcia's case will be a FA unless we give him big bucks) while both Santana and Figgins are very affordable for the next couple of years. Why is it necessary that we take back Figgins at all? Is it too much of a pipe dream to hope KW is trying to hustle Stoneman for Santana/Shields rather than Santana/Figgins? -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) Link? Here's one that states the Rangers owe New York click I doubt in this case it would make a difference, but I could see a deal where the third team down the road would not receive the entire amount. A great example would be someone like Thomas or Thome, a superstar with a questionable recovery. They recover 100%, have great seasons and their value rises. The team that was receiving money would possibly not have to eat as much of the salary as the first team did. I do not have the exact terms of the contract. I believe Texas paid a total of $65 million or so when the trade was originally made. From everything I have read, that money (a prorated portion of it of course), would follow ARod in the event that he was dealt from the Yankees. I am just speculating here, but it is my belief that the money would follow him, either because the contract states that it would, or simply because if the Yankees attempted to deal ARod without sending the Texas money along, or any of their own money along, it would make ARod practically unmovable. I don't believe any team would be willing to take on any player, regardless of who it was, at $100 million for 4 years in the current economic climate, AND trade away players of value as well. NY, if they truly wish to deal him, are going to have to make it not only feasible for another team to fit him into their payroll, and make it a favorable position for themselves by getting back players of value. It is doubtful that Bud Selid would approve a deal that looked like a pure "salary dump."
-
Just to clear things up, if ARod were traded, assuming the Yankees did not pick up any salary, the money Texas ate to make ARod tradable would follow him to whatever team the Yankees deal him to. That amount is about $66 million over 4 years, or slightly more than $16 million per year. There has been some speculation that NY might pick up some additional salary, to lessen the commitment to somewhere more in the neighborhood of $12 million per year, and involve more teams in the bidding, however, that is fairly unlikely IMO.
-
I know wins are a team-dependant performance measure, but they can't be entirely dismissed. Jon has more wins since the beginning of the 2005 season than any other pitcher in baseball (31) with the exception of Chris Carpenter, with whom he is tied.
-
If we were to average 38,000 for our remaining 24 home games, we would end up with about 2,977,000 in attendance. Don't think if this is possible though, because of comp tickets.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:11 AM) 13 strikeouts was pretty impressive. Shocking but impressive also. It shouldn't be shocking. This is why Javy makes $12 million a year, because he is capable of this sort of effort. This is why Kenny has been after him for so long, and it is why he wasn't given up on and dealt at the deadline. He does need to string performances like this together, and I think he is certainly much more capable of that than we have seen thus far. Here's to hoping he can do it.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) I don't understand where Guzman fits in Tampa Bay's future. There's obviously a huge logjam in the outfield, and also on the left side of the infield. Eventually, they're going to have to deal some of these guys for pitching... Maybe back to ss...?
-
Another interesting comment in that article is that Heyman believes the Twins are no longer involved in the Soriano-athon.
-
Kip Wells probably going to Boston, any minute now.
-
I thought maybe Kenny was trying to sell him to the Pirates as part of a deal for one of their relievers in the event the Pirates dealt Casey (which they now have), but I can't imagine he would have much worth at all to a team like Pittsuburgh which needs to go young.
-
I can't believe the Stros were thinking of dealing Oswalt, Ensberg, and Everett to the O's for Tejada. Are you kidding me??? And the reason they came to their senses was because they were afraid the O's were going to deal Oswalt to the Rangers, which would be a PR nightmare. That's just insane.
-
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:53 PM) then how much of Javy's contract are we paying for actually? He makes 11.5 million this year and 12.5 million the next. We received 4.5 million from Arizona in the trade.
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) well that makes the site it's trying to emulate look reputable. This isn't even mlbtraderumors. This is a site where fans just email ideas. It's ridiculous.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) I'm not so sure the Nationals want Josh Fields, they have Zimmerman and as someone correctly pointed out in this thread, corner OF's can be had. You are talking about the GM who acquired Soriano and made him play left field. Bowden wants the best prospects available, regardless of position. He can always flip someone elsewhere.
-
I'm for dispatching someone to cause a little "food poisoning" on Bedard again. If it weren't for Erik being held out last Friday because of food poisoning, we would be missing him this series. Damn Canadians.
-
I think he actually is willing to deal Fields, he just would rather not. If it comes down to it, I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if Fields is dealt on Monday to get Soriano here.
-
So the latest from Stark has the Twins and Astros as the favorites for Soriano. Says the White Sox' talks with Bowden are "collapsing" because of Ken Williams' refusal to part with McCarthy or Fields. Believes Soriano may very well not be moved until Monday afternoon.
