  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) We shouldn't even be there. Its great to have talent, but when you can't win more than a game every turn in the rotation you don't deserve to be in the top 10. Don't Fret! Jon is pitching again tomorrow!
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) I hope so, they gave up a reliever due a big contract next year, a prospect thats a little older (Nix) who has yet to find a way to be there everyday centerfielder despite being handed the job a couple times, and a guy who is a streaky hitter that had one big HR haven when he changed his shoe size earlier this season who is thought of as a shady clubhouse guy. Really? Mench is a shadeball? I would have never thunk it. I have heard him interviewed a few times and he seemed like an extremely nice guy. I guess you never know these days. Anyways, I agree, I think this was too good for Texas to pass up- even if Lee bolts for the Shrine next year.
  3. This from Keith Law's ESPN chat this morning: Bobby (Chicago): give some white sox love. are they making any more moves before monday? Keith Law: They're trying, and they did have interest in Soriano, but I think Monday's leak from Washington may have killed that. Kenny Williams would like to upgrade his rotation, but unless Jason Schmidt becomes available, I'm not sure such a player exists on this trade market.
  4. Does this Lee trade set the bar a little as to what teams will offer for Soriano?
  5. If you read Kenny's comments shortly after the rumor was released, he said "he expected" the information to become known. What I am still wondering is how would the Nationals leak the rumor when included the MacDougal info, unless of course the rumors were from two different sources, which I did not get the impression that it was.
  6. I think we might see Brandon move into the starting rotation very soon... I wonder if Beane would be willing to talk Broadway and Haeger?
  7. How do these writers get their jobs? I don't expect them to know every little detail about every team, but they could at least know the basics if they are going to start blindly speculating about deals...
  8. Just figured I would add this little blurb from the Newark Star Ledger: Incidentally, the A's also count White Sox pitcher Brandon McCarthy as the type of player for whom they'd deal Zito. But the White Sox say they're not trading McCarthy Newark Star Ledger
  9. So much for raising the price for Soriano and Lee to keep them away from our division rivals...
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) In other words...start the clock, Kenny's going to do something. Just remember, negotiations with Jon Garland and Jose Contreras have broken off. What the hell did he expect Thome, Pauly, and Jermaine to tell him? "We suck. We need more."
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) If we're not going to be able to re-sign Soriano, it would be a drastic mistake to trade Fields for him. Even if we were to win the World Series this year? Of course one could not claim Soriano would be the sole reason for that, but could anyone say a move was bad if we were to repeat?
  12. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) Eh. I'd have to see how Buster wrote, he might've just been speculating on what they could do. Something like... "The White Sox are looking at acquiring more pitching, and they've suggested that Freddy Garcia could be had.." So, blah. This is what he wrote: • Ozzie Guillen says he's happy with his roster. What I've heard is that the Sox are willing to talk about dealing Freddy Garcia, but let's face it, there's only one starting pitcher currently on the market who would represent an upgrade over what the White Sox have in their rotation -- and that's Barry Zito of Oakland. The only pitcher who has thrown well for the White Sox since the All-Star break got yelled at by his manager, as Mike Downey writes.
  13. Bedard is going nowehere right now. He's been on fire for the last 2 months.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 10:59 AM) Someone said there was a rift between Garland and Ozzie? Sidenote, I love these posters who kiss Ozzie's arse one day, rip it to shreads the next, then just as the wind changes directions.. praise him again. Priceless. And the entire team as well.
  15. Don't forget that Sanchez was supposedly held out with a tender elbow the other night. I think if KW offers Fields and Broadway, Soriano comes to Chicago.
  16. I am not going to defend Podsednik anymore....but for all the pieces of spiff there are to criticize on this team, Scottie takes an extraordinarily disproportionate amount of criticism around here. ITS OLD. And Mackowiak, of all people, does absolutely nothing for this team. That homer off of Street was awesome. That was 2 months ago.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) Anyone that believes anything KW says (at face-value) is naive. Reading between the lines, KW was definitely letting it known that Fields is available. Yeah, either that or trying to make it appear to Detroit and Minny that the White Sox actually could acquire Soriano. From what he had said earlier, I think alot of GM's doubted KW's sincerity since he had claimed he wouldn't deal any of his big guns. Now it appears moreso that Kenny might actually be willing to pay the required price, whether he intends to or not. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) By the way, has anyone other than me noticed that Baltimore is pretty close to Washington D.C., and the White Sox are headed to Baltimore? We could even afford to pay for the gas to get Soriano to the ballpark on Friday. Interesting. I wonder if Kenny will be traveling with the team. I don't know that Soriano will be with the club on Friday. But I do think he will be by the end of the weekend.
  18. Ok, here is the latest trade scoop from Jason Stark. I cannot post the entire article because of copyright restrictions on premium content, but I will recap the relevant information: According to Stark, Bowden is not backing off his asking price of three solid young prospects, one of which must be an A prospect. Currently, no team is willing to give him that, and so Bowden is claiming he can wait until the deadline to move Soriano. There are indications that the Tigers are considering moving top pitching prospect Humberto Sanchez, although he missed his last start with a sore elbow. However, the Tigers have no interest in moving any top position players in their system, especially not Cameron Maybin. Stark spoke with KW, who claimed he has asked about every impact player for the last 6 trade deadlines, so of course he is once again now. He is interested in Soriano "who wouldn't be?" When asked why he would go after an impact bat, Williams said this: I don't believe I can go out and acquire [a starter] who is better than what I have. In fact, I've got a guy in my bullpen [brandon McCarthy] who many people feel is better than anyone I can go out and acquire." Williams reiterated that he had no interest in dealing McCarthy. KW said he would prefer to not deal Fields, but waivered slightly when asked if he would if it came down to it: "but at one point I also said that about Chris Young" (whom he dealt last winter for Javier Vazquez). Williams said his philosophy was to listen, at the very least, to almost any proposal -- on anyone from Fields to Jim Thome. "So it's tough for me to say [no on Fields], absolutely and unequivocally, because I have an open mind on anything." When asked if there are any other impact deals he could make a deal for, Kenny said he already made that deal, implying MacDougal. The Twins are thought to be involved in the Soriano talks, but if the price is as high as speculated, that is too high for their taste.
  19. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 05:42 PM) I love Carl's passion for the game and I think he was a great asset for us last year but we have no spot for him except on the bench and the rare pinch hitting occasions. The reason he was DFA'd is because the Mariners dealt a minor league OF to Cleveland for Ben Broussard.
  20. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) If Kenny has 3 deals on the table, then he better make sure to get them both done. Which both of the three would you like him to get done?
  21. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) Before this game, he had 18 and allowed 4 to score. And now it's 20 and 6? I suppose that's pretty decent. I thought he was "our" Liriano though....
  22. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) ERA's by month April: 3.38 May: 6.14 June: 2.70 July: 3.72 Now, ERA isn't the best measure for relievers, and no, he isn't nearly as good as he was during the stretch run last year, but what do you expect from him? This is the first time he's ever pitched out of the pen for a whole year in his ENTIRE career. Its not the same thing as being a starter. How does he do with inherited runners?
  23. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) I'm kind of tired of the "I'm sure the players are as upset/angry/frustrated as the fans are right now" BS. If they were as upset as we are, then I would think we'd see some intensity in these guys. They are rolling over and playing dead. They have been flat as a pancake since the ASB. I see no fire. That's why I like Neal Cotts. He throws spiff all over the place and bangs his glove on stuff. Go Neal.
  24. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) His pitching out of the pen has improved throughout the year. He had a crappy May, but outside of that, he's been good. He started off just fine in April. He isn't that good.
