QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) He isn't that good? I've seen him do pretty well and improve as the year has gone on, I don't know what you're looking at. Improve what?

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) He wouldn't struggle if he was a starter... Was that supposed to be in green?

I am shocked at how Brandon can do no wrong around here...

Nice atmosphere around here for this game....

Everyone take a step back, and take some deep breaths.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) A slow, beat up shortstop? The guy's hitting .329 with 18 home runs and 70 RBIs this season. Tell me what team is going to move a shortstop putting up those kind of numbers if they're not getting back something incredibly valuable in return? What sort of prospect level would you expect them to get back in return for moving a guy like that? If I'm baltimore, I'm demanding something along the lines of a potential #1 starter next year, or a potential all star within 2 years, or something like that. There's no reason to dump that guy unless it's going to make you better immediately or it's going to make you vastly better in 2-3 years. Have you seen him play ss this year? He is terrible defensively. He insists on playing every game because of his consecutive games streak- so he has a bum knee. He doesn't run out any ground balls, and rarely will he even dive for a ball. He shows up late to the game. And sulks much of the time. He is probably 2-3 years older than whatever he claims he is. The only reason he is there is because he draws fans to the ballpark and Angelos is afraid he will lose the casual fan if he deals him for prospects. But no team is going to surrender solid, cheap young pitching for Tejada. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) Why exactly does Baltimore need to get rid of Tejada without getting back a potential star? Its not like he has a bad contract, it's not like he's currently begging to leave. If they add a few arms around him, he could be a key part of building a really good team there. They should get back quality prospects. Tell me what contender is going to move young, cheap, quality players so they can acquire an aging, slow, beat up, poor defensive shortstop who makes $13 million? The Orioles are going nowhere with Tejada. They have some nice young pitching in their farm system, but no one who is ready now, and probably not ready to pitch well next year either. -

If you want to talk about FO's wanting too much, you can look no further than Baltimore. Forget getting any players worth a damn from Peter Angelos. The Tigers recently inquired about Tejada, and were told they would need to be willing to include Verlander or Bonderman to even enter the discussion. What a joke that franchise is now. And it used to be so solid. -
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) Really? He will? For a 2 month rental? Jayson Stark was on ESPN radio with Mike and Mike this morning and he explained why Bowden is not getting what he is asking for and why he probably wont get it because Soriano is really only a 2 month rental player. There is no assurance any team will be able to re-sign him. I believe you are wrong and Bowden will not get that premier prospect that he wants so badly. It is certainly within your rights to disagree with my opinion. I guess we will have to wait and see. And if that is the case, and you prove to be right, I believe Soriano will be wearing a Sox uniform early next week.
-
From what I have read, Bowden is holding out for a stud prospect right now and just isn't getting it. He will eventually get it, IMO, it just depends on who flinches first come Saturday/Sunday.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) Yes, thanks for posting this. I heard the original conversation between Olney and Mike Greenberg this morning, and it was Olney speculating, nothing more. Olney did say that in talking to his sources, whoever they are, that KW is intent on improving the club. No surprise there. Ack, that sort of bursts my bubble a little. I am just hoping KW does something, because if Shea Hillenbrand were here, he would be writing on our chalkboard as well....
-
Just read Buster Olney's blog from this morning. Because of copyright restrictions on premium material, I won't paste the entire thing, but here is a relevant portion: The White Sox need better pitching, either from the guys they have or from somebody they might acquire. Williams is a deal-maker and so is Oakland GM Billy Beane, and you have to wonder if Barry Zito's name will come up in their conversations this week. Seems like Buster is speculating more so than that he actually knows someting.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) But seriously, I understand the contract situation, but I just can't see a team that is seriously contending for its division giving up its ace pitcher, unless for a gross overpayment including Majoy League talent. Did you understand trading Hudson and Mulder in one weekend?
-
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) Maybe we're really talking to the A's about Chavez? You didn't.....
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:34 AM) The only teams that could or might be interested in Zito would be STL, Ariz, SD. The dodgers maybe, but they need other help. What on earth that Kenny has ever done would make you think he wouldn't be the one going after Barry Zito?
-
Ok, has anyone else actually heard this report, or is this someone playing a little prank to give us something to talk about in the wake of the Soriano (non) deal?
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) If you could get Zito locked up, then hell yeah do the deal. But looking at Bora$$'$ history, how many of clients has he allowed to re-sign with their current team when they are about to hit FA that off-season? Boras was just quoted as saying he doesn't believe there is enough time to be able to structure and agree to an extension before the deadline. "These things take too much time."
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:11 AM) Yeah for example if you traded prospects to acquire Zito right, then you traded him to a team that desperately needed him like say for instance the Dodgers, who could give up a package including say a Jonathan Broxton, a young stud reliever who can help you now and in the future. That's the only way I could see us being invovled in a 3 way deal revolving around Barry Zito. EDIT: How does a Zito and Uribe for Broxton, Furcal and maybe a spect deal sound? Why on earth would we want to deal Uribe for Furcal? A player who makes $13 million to steal bases? Juan just about matches him defensively and hits for more power. I want no part of a declining Rafael Furcal. I don't understand why a reliever is even necessary at this point. As for the Zito speculation, I cannot fathom a scenario wherein the third team involved would be the Mets. Minyana would get CRUCIFIED if he was involved in a deal involving Zito and allowed him to go to Chicago. And I cannot see Kenny being involved in ANY deal where he isn't getting the highest impact player. The Mets and White Sox both have GM's who go after impact players and there just aren't enough impact players for the A's to give up to two teams. If this is true, I imagine it would be a deal where the White Sox get Zito, another team gets Garcia, and we swing Broadway along with the prospects from the other team to the A's for Zito. That third team would HAVE to be a national league team, because there isn't another AL team that would help us acquire Zito AND take on a high-salaried player. I dunno...this sounds pretty difficult to imagine being true...

This absolutely ruins my day for like a good 6-8 hours....until we get close enough to where I can focus to our next game. I have seen us take so many steps in this past year...not just the World Series, but in turning the baseball landscape on its head in this City. In building this once dominant franchise into an AL powerhouse again. In making this a huge market team that can represent what a great and wonderful City Chicago is, not the pathetic effort they make on the North Side. Last year was the first step in making this franchise what it should be. This year is supposed to be the second step- and it is all starting to fall apart before our eyes in a few hot weeks in July. It pains me to no end.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) Works for me. His performance in games deserves to be bashed. Any manager is easy to bash when the players just aren't getting it done. Ozzie is going his best, putting guys in situations where they have chances to succeed, and they just aren't succeeding. They are failing. EVERY MANAGER CAN BE SECOND GUESSED under those circumstances.

Well, it is clear that Mack would have pinch run but he was going to have to pinch hit for BA. Normally, we would have had plenty of ways to go there, but he had to turn the entire lineup around lefty to try and get to Nathan.
-
Well, Kirkjian once again just said that any deal for Soriano may go until Sunday since the Nationals aren't getting what they want for him. Said the White Sox/Nationals are still discussing who the third player will be. Meanwhile, the Tigers and other teams are still talking to the Nationals. Seems like this isn't anything that will happen imminently unless KW gives in.

QUOTE(toasty @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) meaning nats give some cash to go with soriano i doubt they get enough extra to make a difference in a LT contract Oh... No, I cannot imagine any scenario in which the Nats give us cash...
