  1. QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) Anyone else think KW may give them a Sweeney-Broadway (or even Fields-Sweeney-Broadway) combination to get some extra cash to help pay for an extension? How does that get KW some extra cash? Those players make nothing right now.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) Stark is the best in baseball. His reports have been much more detailed than Tim K.'s, including how much Soriano is looking for as a FA. Rosenthal is always right on also. One thing...Tim K did write an article the other day about Bowden holding some big trade pieces this year. The article included information that made it appear he either had a very good relationship with Bowden, or a solid source inside the National's FO. I wonder if that is where his info is coming from? Trader Jim
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) Interesting and that seems like a very fair package. I know a lot of people would hate us giving up Sweeney, but if the Sox plan on keeping Soriano than we may not need Sweeney. Of course Sweeney could replace Dye in time, but thats still a ways down the road and we could always opt for something else or trade for a prospect of sorts. I really would bet that is what Kenny is waffling over....Sweeney.
  4. Stark's latest report claims that while Kirkijan still claims that the White Sox and Nationals are in talks, the deal was never extremely close. He says that most GM's aren't buying the rumors, and are wondering how Bowden could do this deal this early if both Fields and McCarthy are unavailable. States that Bowden is still inviting offers. Speculates KW may be trying to put a package together that includes Broadway, Sweeney, and Liotta, but those aren't the kind of blue chip prospects Bowden is looking for. That is the deal you may take on Sunday, but not on Tuesday.
  5. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) It seems like the Tigers best prospects are both hurt and with the Tigers now having a bigger lead I think they are starting to think and wonder whether they should risk making a big move. The Angels aren't a team known to overpay while the Twins could definately use him but they may be hesitant to give up whats necessary. Nor do I really think they have the mixture of prospects that the Sox have. A lower budget team like the Twins can't afford to give up a ton of prospects for a guy they may lose. A 100 mill payroll team has a bit more leeway. Somehow, I am picturing KW and Jim Bowden really enjoying this exchange...
  6. ENOUGH about the leadoff man differences. Worry about it if he gets here!
  7. QUOTE(BDavisFutureHOF @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) From the home page of ESPN: "Is Soriano landing in Chicago with the White Sox? Stark isn't so sure." That's been there for hours. He's just reacting to the premature reporting by his own network yesterday.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) That makes me think, unless its a final prospect, all of the guys included would be in AA or higher. I tend to think Pods is staying here... Kenny is not one to deal guys from the ml team during the season. I'm guessing Broadway, and Phillips. And I am guessing that Bowden wants Sweeney and Kenny is pushing Owens.
  9. Especially since one of the few things the Nats do have is a closer already. I am not buying that Broadway is not available. SOMEONE has to be available.
  10. QUOTE(POPPY_HIDALGO @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:23 PM) Josh Fields and Jenks. Macdougle has been brought in to be the new closer. Ozzie is said to be pretty unhappy with Jenks weight problems and is looking to get more lean. At least that's what I heard on the Score today. Dude, you are sniffing too much paint thinner.
  11. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) Tim is on ESPNnews now talking about it. Not much of an update, said Nats-Sox trying to find a 3rd guy to add to deal since no BMac. Said it still could happen. So, nothing we didn't know. Well, something I didn't know.... Who are the first two guys? Are we talking about Broadway and Pods?
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) Pablo isn't going anywhere. He might be the reserve in the AL. Pablo hasn't gotten a hit in like 3 weeks and he can't play the field. I hope that is not "the reserve in the AL."
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) Except of course we'd need a roster spot to put him into, which would presumably involve dropping Gload, which gives us less flexibility in terms of actually having a backup for our 1st baseman Depending on whether or not Pods stays here in the event of a Soriano acquisition, I think it might have to be Pablo... Or else a trade of Mackowiak. I think we need Gload to backup first base.
  14. Jenks was converted from a starter who wasn't getting it done to a fairly dominant closer. That is called development.
  15. Honestly, this sheds light on a lot of things. Why Dye walked over there. Why Thome walked over there. spiff, I think I even saw Jose walk over there and he can't even understand the language. It seems maybe Jon was not happy about how Tracey was treated (or how Ozzie has been acting) and came over and said something. It also seems as though guys on the team knew about this, as they recognized what was going on pretty damn quickly.
  16. What on earth could Jon have said? Southtown
  17. In the paper this morning Ozzie said "Jon whispered something into my ear that I didn't like" or something to that effect after he walked into the dugout.....wtf? But yesterday, during the game, I did see that Dye was standing next to Ozzie talking to him late in the game, maybe around the 6th or 7th. I thought maybe Ozzie was discussing Dye possibly pinch hitting, but who knows now. But they certainly are not "feuding" or anything. Regardless of what is really happening, how quickly so many of your are to forget or to second guess. The team is playing like spiff! The things people are complaining about are the same things which helped us win last year. Sometimes things just don't go your way, no matter what you do. I would have thought people would have a little more faith than this.
  18. I doubt it would be Linebrink. San Diego demanded Fields in exchange for their righty setup man.
  19. DBAHO, I found the NYDaily News thing bizarre as well. If we won't even deal Broadway, who WOULD we deal? SO far Williams has shown a reluctance to deal McCarthy, Sweeney, and Fields. Why he would include Lumsden in a deal for MacDougal yet refuse to include Broadway in a deal for Soriano makes no sense. He shouldn't even be talking to Jim Bowden if Broadway is off-limits. I have to think the NYDaily News is back to making things up on that one. What could possibly get this deal done? As much as some of us would love to see Podsednik dealt, I would think the chances of him staying are better than they are of him going. I would think his legs would be enough to keep him around for this year and to possibly platoon once in a while with BA against tough righties, as much as no one wants him in CF. IMHO, he couldn't possibly be worse than Mack out there. So if we are looking at a possible deal for prospects, we have maybe something like Broadway, Fields, and Liotta? And WHY was Gload playing the OF suddenly last night instead of Mack? Is Kenny trying to include him in some deal?
  20. It is really, really easy to second guess a manager when things aren't going well. I think it is bs to whine and beach about some of these x and o moves after the fact. The bottom line is that sometimes no matter what you do you are going to lose. The players aren't getting it done right now. That is all there is to it. The same people that were calling for Ozzie's head last September were the ones praising the job he did in the postseason. Now they are calling for his head again. WE AREN'T PLAYING WELL. It's as simple as that.
  21. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) What would something substantial be ? They aren't hitting at all except for solo HR's, and the pitching is spotty, certainly not on par with the Twins or Tigers. Trading for Soriano may be a shakeup, but when it comes down to it, the pitching just isn't that good this season. Maybe the offense will get going again, and hide the deficiencies, but clearly the pitching just flat out stinks. I think Kenny will look to improve any way he can. If pitching is at a premium, and hitting is a lesser valued commodity, than you go ahead and get the bat. The object is still to score more runs than the opposition.
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) I don't know if this is going to go through or not but after tonight's game, I know KW is going to do something substantial to shake up this team. I think you are probably right.
  23. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) I have a hard time believing that McCarthy was ever involved - how could it have reached the point where it was considered close to happening if Williams had no intention of moving McCarthy ? Surely, he would have rebuffed Washington right away, correct ? This leads me to one of two conclusions - Williams dangled McCarthy out there to spark Washington's interest, and then leaked the info that a trade was close to get other competitors to step their offers OR ESPN just jumped the gun on this story. I don't see how ESPN jumped the gun because MacDougal was actually acquired....seems like the info was correct.
  24. I said this earlier, but I think it bears mentioning again. Ken Rosenthal is normally all over the deals that actually happen. When something gets close, he seems to be the guy who breaks it first. He hasn't written a damn thing today at all. I find that extremely strange.
  25. The interesting thing is that the original rumor was linked to the MacDougal report. The MacDougal deal actually happened, which legitimizes the source. So either the source was pretty close originally, and Kenny backed off because of BMac, or this was a rumor leaked by the White Sox conveniently attached to accurate information regarding MacDougal to give it legitimacy.
