Well can we agree that Vazquez would NOT be pitching tonight if he were really seriously being thrown around in talks for Soriano?
-
Ozzie says a lot of things and changes his mind anyways. He very well could have said that only to change his mind later.
-
QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:57 PM) They would probably wait till his start is done. And risk him getting injured?
-
It isn't Vazquez, unless he suddenly gets scratched. He is starting tonight.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) Look at how poorly he's been playing left. Do we really want Mackowiak-style defense out in CF every day? If anyone has been watching lately (and I know this doesn't matter to some), Pods has actually been playing fairly solid defense as of late.
-
I am hearing the other prospect is Daniel Cortes.
-
I don't see the Yankees wanting Uribe, but maybe Fields...
-
The only thing fishy about this is that Ken Rosenthal hasn't said anything about this yet. For the past year and a half, this guy has been the man calling out deals.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) i dont like trading pitching, but that would a one hell of an offensive jugernut. Im gonna miss Bmac. I like that kid, hes a good player. I have thought BMac was overrated all year long. But we need his cheap arm. I sure hope Kenny has something going on to reacquire some young mlb-ready pitching.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) Linkage Wow. Well this pretty much shows where Kenny stands on our window to win.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) You know, it might be worth noting that the Nationals actually have very little need for a young 3rd baseman, since they already have a pretty good one of those. They might not want Fields...they'd have the same problem as us; no where to play him except the outfield, and since he's still not really seen playing time in LF, it'd be a while before he'd be ready to play anywhere for them. And since when have you known Jim Bowden to not spin players to other teams? Bowden just wants the best prospects possible, and then he can figure out what to do with them from now until the beginning of next season.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) If Freddy gets lit up by Baltimore, then what would his value be? I'm saying if the Sox want to move him [that's a big IF] then trading after a very good start vs TEx. [that he got lucky in and still didn't hit 90 mph] makes sense. Gambling is one thing. Throwing away a very good trading chip is quite another If he has a bad outing Friday night, it isn't going to ruin his value. He has pitched in a lot of big games in his career and if one bad start against the Orioles really lessens his value that much, than so be it. You are simply hoping that another good start appeals to the impulsive side of Omar Minyana, and he has a few positive outings to put in front of the NY press to justify dealing away some young talent to acquire him.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) Sanchez and a lesser prospect than Humber would be decent as well. Or if NY included Humber, a guy like Riske could go. Heilman IMO is another Riske--decent but not lights out. The Mets could include Sanchez as Pelfrey could then go to setup If the sox want to move Freddy, they shouldn't wait 'til Fri. to pull the trigger. Keep his ERA under 5.00 It makes no sense to trade him just to trade him. Gamble and hope that his stock rises, and that someone will get desperate on Saturday afternoon (unless they get desperate before), and if you can't get what you want, then hold onto him. He still has plenty of value to us.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) I read on si.com that the Nationals want Fields and Broadway for Soriano. If that is the case, make the deal.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) The Yankees would still get to keep that money UNLESS they negotiated with another team to give it up. And the Yankees would certainly have to give some of that money to the team taking on ARod, because the Yankees are the ONLY team that can take on $27 million for one player. Which makes it difficult for the Yankees to rationalize dealing him. Right now they have an amazing offensive player at a reasonable (for them, anyways) price. Why try and deal that away? The only reason they do is if the situation gets so out of control that they have no other choice.
-
Well this guy knows absolutely nothing more than we do. This can pretty much be taken from Kenny's comments yesterday, where he said he "expected" news of the White Sox "interest" to "get out." Who knows with Kenny though. Soriano could be in a White Sox unirform tomorrow night and I wouldn't be surprised.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) I think the Yankees would be stupid to trade him, and I also don't buy the reason a lot of "experts" think the Yankees have to trade him.......because its chic to boo him and he'll never be able to turn around the boos. Didn't Giambi turn around the boos fairly quickly? All he needs is a hot week or 2 that you know is just around the corner, and he'll be back. I do think he would be an even better player outside of NY, but the guy was the MVP last year. I think it boils down to this....if the Yankees make the playoffs and ARod takes them somewhere, they'll love him again and they'll keep him. If the Yankees fail to make the playoffs or they make the playoffs and ARod has a marginal series, he'll be villified and be dealt. The main problem for any team trying to acquire ARod? Under the terms of the deal with the Rangers, the Yankees are receiving some $52 million of the remaining $108 million on ARod's 10-year deal between 2007. and 2010. I can't see them dealing ARod without a hell of a lot coming back when they "only" are paying him $14 million/year.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 07:48 AM) Heilman and Humber peoples. That's the most realistic deal I've heard on this board for the past week, and I'd love to get it done especially for Garcia. Hopefully Minaya takes the bait. Friday night is a big start for Freddy Garcia. If he puts up another solid outing as he did Saturday night, you might see Omar get a little trigger happy on Saturday morning and make a deal. He doesn't lose much from the big league club by dealing Heilman (since he will get Garcia back), and Humber is the prospect that gets it done on Kenny's end.

Jason Stark on Javier Vazquez/Freddy Garcia

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:01 AM) Especially after Pelfrey's performance last night. It's only going to put more pressure on Minaya to make a deal for a SP. Heilman will probably be easier to obtain than Sanchez, and I'd be ok with that. He was great last season, and gives you the extra versatility as a SP if need be. So really Milledge and Pelfrey should be off limits. But then again, Minaya could very well decide to trade Milledge and Humber for say Barry Zito. I can't see Zito being moved right now because of Harden's status and because Loaiza is turning into a huge bust. If they move Zito they are in a really tough spot right now... -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) Ya, it was a later Sunday trade because I remember coming home for our families Sunday night dinner (we'd always have dinner during baseball season by bbq'in and watching Sunday night baseball with my dad and grandpa) and being absolutely shocked that we made the move. I also remember how pumped up I got that season after he made his first start (man did he have dominating stuff). Shows what I know, Cheat says Saturday so I'm guessing he looked it up. I swear it was a Sunday, but maybe I'm confusing trades or something Freddy was acquired after a Sunday afternoon White Sox/Cubs game where we beat Maddux and Todd Hollandsworth broke his foot. I remember being at the game and hearing the news when we got in the car to leave the Cell. It was announced very shortly after the game, so it was probably around 4:30-5:00 ish.

Funny how this thread began with Alfonso Soriano and now has come full-circle to Rafael Soriano....
-
I remember Mark starting out 1-10 in 03' and rebounding to even his record at 14-14 by season's end. We need that kind of rebound from him now.

Jason Stark on Javier Vazquez/Freddy Garcia

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 07:11 AM) I think if Minaya gets desperate enough at the deadline, a Heilman and Humber deal could certainly be possible. It will ultimately depend on a number of factors though, including how the current Mets SP's do, and whether Minaya can get Livan or Miguel Batista cheaper. And Humber would be a top SP in our system, and he throws pretty hard IIRC. Thank you DHAHO. I have been taking flak for suggesting we could get Humber and Heilman for the last week. I think if we let Bowden and Gillick and everyone else bother Minyana for Pelfrey and Milledge, and focus on Humber and Heilman, he may make the move to satisfy the critics calling for the Mets to fortify their club, yet at the same time satisfying the critics screaming "don't trade Pelfrey or Milledge." I would be surprised if Minyana stands pat here. But I would be surprised if he goes for broke as well. -
Rosenthal: White Sox have interest in Gordon and Daniel Cabrera
iamshack replied to Frankensteiner's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Was it Cabrerra that had a rough start against the Sox in the first inning, but than pitched real well the rest of the game? If so sign me up on Cabrerra but I don't see what we'd offer them. I could see the O's having interest in a guy like Freddy, especially if they think he'll be fine a year from now. You got to have a few quality vets to go with there young rotation, but the Sox would also have to get a bullpen piece from the O's. Yeah, Cabrera gave up 4 in the first, and then shut us down for either 5 or 6 innings after that. However, Peter Angelos is ridiculously difficult to deal with. He is also PARANOID when it comes to players and possible injuries. I don't think Freddy would pass his smell test the way he is throwing. Additionally, while the O's may eventually get fed up with Cabrera, they have a pretty deep stable of young pitchers, so I doubt they would really want Garcia back. I wonder if we inquired about Tejada when we asked about Cabrera... -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) Josh Fields has been discussed as moving to LF in the past. By trading Crawford, the DRays would be opening up a hole in LF. Please tell me I'm not the only one that sees the correlation. Any trade for Crawford is coming in the offseason, not this season...you want to send a message to the club, you don't want to completely rip this team apart. Half the point of the Rays dealing Crawford though is that they have their fair share of talented OF's already.
