  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) iPhone X pre-orders start at 2 AM CT I ordered at about 12:10 Pacific...didn't hear my alarm for 10 minutes...and I ended up with a delivery date 2-3 weeks out. Boo.
  2. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) Not really, if Jeter really is under a mandate to get payroll down to $90ishMM. DD certainly has the balls to pull off a trade like that. Stanton and Ozuna?? I'll take those two. It came from one of the Boston papers, by the way. Have to agree there. Ozuna just posted a monster season and has two years of control left. Adding him or Yelich to the deal really changes the complexity. The question is, does Stanton's contract, and/or the Marlins' desire to get back multiple young players/prospects, necessitate the inclusion of one of Ozuna or Yelich? If the Marlins desire a prospect package, it does make sense to potentially consider that, but if you are getting back pieces like Bradley Jr and Boegarts, I am not sure what sense this makes. One would think they would be better off moving Stanton for some prospects and cash, and then moving Yelich and Ozuna for more prospects to further augment their farm system and realign their window.
  3. We know that Kenny is very close with Brian Cashman. I'd be curious of how much Kenny knows about the issues in NY and whether he'd even want Girardi.
  4. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) http://www.newsweek.com/does-donald-trump-...ld-he-do-692092 Does President Trump hate dogs? I don't trust people that don't like dogs.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) A 2:29 playoff game? I didn't even realize that was possible Yeah, that was crazy. The last few innings took like no time at all.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 08:16 AM) I'm generally supportive of Pace, but it really grates me seeing the Eagles hire Kellly when we hired Trestman, go to Playoffs twice, Fire Kelly and "rebuild", find a franchise QB and basically be on way to playoffs already while Bears are *still* a year away really grates me. I can see us in this Oakland Raiders rebuild mode, but I don't understand how other teams have put the pieces back together so much faster. I mean we tore apart a pretty decent offensive because guys didn't like eachother? If we had kept some of these guys together and focused on the defense and QB position in the meantime, I suspect we could be pretty decent. I didn't so much mind them moving on from Forte, but Marshall, Alshon, Bennett...I suspect if we had figured out a better way to manage the offensive skill player situation we might be a playoff caliber team this year.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 08:37 AM) I don't even know how you evaluate this offense. Glennon played bad, but literally, look at Trubisky. Only thing he has done is not turn it over as much and that probably has more to do with the fact that we barely let him drop back (and I feel half of the time Trubisky gets sacked because he makes "no decision"). It literally seems that the only way he's throwing the ball is if a guy is wide open. Yeah, I felt the same way yesterday. I still feel very good about Mitch. I suspect he was erring on the side of caution, and I'm sure the coaching staff told him to do so, but I was certainly frustrated we couldn't at least unload the ball to avoid the sacks and hits.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 22, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) It's a weird combination of a rookie QB, zero wide receivers, and the most conservative coach in the league. Today was rough to watch, but they got the early lead and it worked out, no reason to force anything extra on Trubisky yet. But that is not gonna work next weekend in NOLA. He's got to be able to get the ball out somewhere though. I realize we hardly attempted any passes, but how many times was he sacked today? If the offense is so bad that literally 20-30% of when he does not hand the ball off, he is getting sacked, that is a problem. There HAVE GOT TO BE SOME PLAYS they can run which don't result in him needing to simply eat the ball and take hits.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 22, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) Moving along. If Eloy continues to hit in winter ball, I'm thinking a ST invite is almost certain to happen. If he hits in ST I'm not so sure he starts the 2018 season at Birmingham. Considering they have said they'll invite Robert to ST, I would be shocked if they didn't extend one to Eloy as well.
  10. QUOTE (Da_Goob @ Oct 22, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) The team without the NFL offense is 2-1 since they put a QB in there that doesn't turn the ball over multiple times per game. You don't have to say anything. I'll continue to enjoy their wins. It's a fair point, but as other teams get more film on Trubusky, it's going to be more and more difficult for the Bears offense to do anything whatsoever. Sure, your earlier point is accurate - if they run the ball effectively and play well defensively, they'll be in most games, but I don't think their defense is dominant enough to win many.
  11. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Oct 22, 2017 -> 07:52 AM) This will be a pretty good world series, like one of the first ones I've been excited about for a while. You have two of the best going at it and it should be a heavyweight type fight. Ultimately, I see the Dodgers winning this series due to their bullpen and pitching. As much as I like Keuchel, Verlander, and (McCullers, Peacock, Morton), I like Kershaw, Hill, Darvish, and Wood a lot better. As for the bullpens, it's really not a contest. Dodgers bullpen is lights out, just ask the cubs. I think the Dodgers win this series in 6 games or less. I could see the Astros roughing up Wood and Darvish in their two Houston games, but Kershaw and Hill will probably be too much for the Astros hitters. I see the Keuchel and Verlander starts going deep with a low score but their bullpen will ultimately let them down. Definitely has the makings for one of the better World Series in recent memory. I agree the edge goes to the Dodgers, but it's close. I think it comes down to Kershaw. If he can pitch well, I suspect the Dodgers win. If the Astros get to him, I think the Astros win.
  12. The Bears played with fire by continually relying on their defense to stop Carolina, despite a nearly 4-1 ratio of offensive plays and time of possession in the favor of Carolina. They got lucky. They very easily could have pissed this away by trying more not to lose than by trying to win. I get taking the air out of the ball towards the later stages, but the first 16 minutes of the second half were completely ridiculous. Not only did they put too much on the shoulders of that defense, but they could have gotten some of their offensive players hurt by refusing to put them in any kind of a position to succeed. I haven't been a big detractor of Fox, but today might have been the game that solidified the fact that he has to go. Ironic is the fact that this occurred in probably his biggest win as Bears head coach.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 07:56 PM) I've met Gellinger, some dude named Paul Konerko credited him for the basics of his swing even before Walker worked with him. I like. The article written about Burger in the Athletic says basically they are doing the same thing with him: trying to change his hand position to allow him to get more lift on the ball and take advantage of his natural power.
  14. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 05:53 PM) Would anyone be willing to share the most recent article on Collins from the Athletic by James Fegan? Can't share it, but the gist is that they are trying to calm his hands and get him into a more balanced position before he begins to load his swing, so that the natural tilt move he makes is lessened. Said he trusts the Sox player development guys and Gellinger (the guy who is helping him) has a great reputation throughout the organization.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) My rule is still "If a really smart, good team is suggesting a trade with you, maybe you actually have an asset and need to second guess yourself" I wonder if GS made them agree to the trade before telling them the player.
  16. Perhaps they should also fire Max Scherzer.
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 06:40 PM) Cubs Twitter is pretty pissed. What a grade trade by Hahn. Wish Q the best but man he has not had the impact they hoped. To be fair, Q didn't give up the grand slam nor did he give up the following two runs. Not the start he wanted, but this has been a failure of most of their pitching staff.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 06:47 PM) Yeah I would 10000% want to watch some dudes who can't catch a ball to save their lives mash dingers vs. some pitcher who barely knows how to hold a bat get a hold of one 3x a year. I think there are benefits to both systems...which is why I support the continuation of one league as a DH league and another without.
  19. With every Yankee win, I despise this trade more and more.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) Even if you divided up the market with a very minor share, it is still bigger than lots of other places. The NYC metro area is estimated at right about 20 million. Even if you divided it up with an extreme share say 5/8 Yankees, 3/8 mets and 1/8 New Team, that still leaves them with 2.5 million people to choose from which is bigger than KC Metro at 2.15 million, and Cleveland at a touch over 2 million. That is how big that market is when compared to everyone else. I don't think that share is extreme. I actually think it is quite conservative. I suspect it might start more like 15/24 Yankees, 7/24 Mets, and 1/24 New Team.
  21. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) I'd hate if this brought about the end of the DH because I despise watching pitchers attempt to hit. I hope that it goes the other way. I dont know what the hell people find entertaining about pitchers being an automatic out, for all intents and purposes. Agreed about watching pitchers hit, but the strategies employed to avoid having to have pitchers hit is the beauty of the NL game.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) @MarkPotash: BREAKING NEWS: #Bears and Fox announce 5-year extension: https://t.co/EfCpzhWRaN Very misleading.
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 04:08 PM) This quote cracks me up. The game is tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 9th on the road, his offense struggling, his team down 1-0 in the series and he's concerned about getting Davis the save? Talk about putting the cart before the horse. At that point in the game, the most important thing is preserving that 1-1 tie to get to extra innings. Seriously, that's a Dusty Baker move. I think we've all watched enough baseball to know that plenty of managers have used their closer in the 9th to preserve the tie and hope for some offense in extra innings. It's OK Joe Maddon , keep managing like this, it's making us Sox fans quite happy. I think the emphasis needs to be on not getting him up and then not using him, as opposed to the save part. He was clearly taking a gamble, and it backfired, but he obviously was trying to optimize his usage considering he could only get up once. As was said in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Joe Maddon, "you chose poorly."
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 07:16 AM) The White Sox are on the record as liking having their teams all near each other so that player movement is facilitated to cover day to day injuries and oddities more easily versus having to send players across the country to fill last minute problems. Was just going to add this. The other critical benefit is to allow scouts to travel between locations more easily. Hawk mentioned this in passing during a game relatively late in the season, saying he thought Jerry was nuts at first, but that it has proven to be quite advantageous.
  25. In all seriousness, I would even be willing to take it a step further and consider that once you reach a base, you are considered safe on that base even if you come off. The only exception being if you make an effort to advance to the next base, in which case you could be tagged out. It really is foolish, when you think about it, that you have to remain in contact with the base at all times or be in jeopardy of being tagged out.
