  1. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 06:12 PM) What more could you honestly expect for a 2-3 month rental of swarzak? There are a bunch of relievers on the market right now, and Cordell still had some upside. Sox were not getting a better prospect than we got. Swarzak has been pretty f***ing good this year.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 06:05 PM) Thing is, consensus seems to be that a lot of scouts really like him. He's probably a better bet to contribute at the MLB level than a lot of the bigger name Brewers guys that forgot how to hit this year. Yeah, that was the initial takes I read..."under the radar guy that scouts love." Keep in mind that Passan also said the dude the Marlins got back from Seattle had a huge ceiling, only to have basically everyone else later say the dude is a bust.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 05:57 PM) I think at this point Rick is just trying to acquire assets that Law doesn't like. Part of me thinks Kenny just decided to move Swarzak to Milwaukee to piss off the Cubs.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) This was a fantastic return. I honestly can't believe Hahn got anything that he could possibly flip or maybe even a guy who could stick. It's a lotto to cket and not a powerball ticket but still pretty awesome if you win either. See, I couldn't disagree more. I don't like this much at all. We've already got like 2-3 guys that can play center field. Presumably, this guy will come up and play left when Melky is gone, but Adam Engel is actually deserving of playing time right now and I think when Garcia returns, he deserves another chance as well. Would have much rather gotten an intriguing arm or something. I get the Swarzak was signed as a minor league FA, but let's not ignore what he accomplished up here; nor should we ignore his stuff. Dude can bring mid-90's heat with a wicked slider that he currently has penchant for locating wherever the hell he wants. I'm frustrated by this idea of comparing the value a player had when he was initially signed with the value he received back when traded. What we need to be considering is the value the player has given his current performance. If that means we get some mediocre prospect who might become a 4th OFer if he's lucky, I'd prefer to just f***ing let the guy close for the rest of the year and see if he'll resign with you. I should probably wait until I actually see this guy play, because it sounds like he is one hell of an athlete, but we are not short on athletes, from what I understand.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) Did he do something to deserve it? I think it might have something to do with Rodon being a bit wild and coming in on Rizzo/Bryant.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) Oops. Someone is on to the truth. I don't think we would do that in the 5th, but who knows. I think he was more concerned he would lose Beck after drilling Happ.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) I look forward to hearing Kasper whine about it on one of his 500 radio appearances next week If Rodon would have drilled the entire middle order of their team, I would have been pretty thankful if they just drilled one of our guys in the leg. Not sure how I feel about TA being benched.
  8. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) Len Kasper is such a turd. After Beck hit him "C'mon seriously, just throw him out" Are you s***ting me?
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) I can post what I want. It's a game thread. I don't not like him. I want him to succeed and find myself badly disappointed. Get off your imaginary high horse where we can't vent in game threads. I don't mind venting. You are borderline obsessed.
  10. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) happy now? I get that you don't like him. It doesn't make this any more fun when every pitch you are saying "arm side miss, arm side miss." You did this last week as well.
  11. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) Rodon is such a disappointment. I don't disagree...I would like to have Nola about now, but please, let's allow him to get past the first hitter?
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) Sorry shack, Avi is gonna cost you a sandwich It is 5 sandwiches! However, there is a loophole. Joe stated that he must have at least 550 plate appearances.
  13. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) I'm much more nervous about the next stages of the rebuild than the trading of the big chips. For instance, how does Hahn handle future FA signings, contract extensions, drafting, more under the radar trades, etc. The exciting part from the perspective of the fans is over, crossing my fingers that Hahn and crew can make good decisions the next few years. I dunno about that...the trading was fun and all, but now we actually get to watch these kids develop. I, for one, have been following the affiliates games, as well as excited more than ever to watch guys like Yoan, Lopez and Giolito begin their White Sox careers. Then will come some of those things you mentioned, which, IMO, will be fun as well. The great thing about our rebuild is that we didn't have to just all-out suck AND have no real assets to watch develop like the Astros did for awhile. We're pretty lucky.
  14. QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) We have very different definitions of big That's what she said.
  15. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 09:02 AM) same, I want both of them to get as many PA as possible even if it gets ugly. And that speed and power combo at the top of the lineup can be FUN if the two of them can actually reach their potential.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) Excellent. Moncada can learn how to bunt in the 5 hole. So he has already lost the 2nd spot in the order, which he "earned" coming into yesterday's game. WTF. The only thing good about this is that he may get an opportunity to use his speed more.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 05:35 AM) I think he could make sense for a team like the Yankees next season. They can probably get him on a one year deal. They would have Gardner in LF (he could be traded and it could be Frazier however), Ellsbury in CF, Judge in RF and they could DH Melky and give him occasional starts in the OF. I dunno, they still have Hicks too, who was having a big year before injuring his oblique.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 05:05 AM) Yeah, no way Melky gets anything close to his previous contract with us. My guess is he gets a one year deal for $7M to $10M. I think it may be somewhere in between, but you may be right. The pendulum has swung really hard towards prospects and opportunity costs - it has really hurt veterans like Melky. He is still a pretty solid bat, but just maybe not solid enough to make someone give him a full-time spot in their OF. Maybe 2/18 is my guess.
  19. I know TINSTAAPP, but we have so much pitching right now and a propensity for developing it! I really think we're betting a ton on Kopech, but wow, I think we are going to have a lot of midrange options in a few years. Factor in a payroll low enough to sign an additional #2 if we really have to...I can't wait to watch these kids.
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 09:06 PM) What did burger do to justify going from a 55 to 50 overall grade since getting drafted? .980 OPS not good enough? The rest of the grades I agree with, is have burger above Fulmer though. Yeah, I didn't realize that. All indications are though that he is on the fast track. I think he beats that 2020 ETA they have on him and gets up here in 2019.
  21. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 08:53 PM) So it's just pretty much out there now Kopech is the best pitching prospect in the game at this point? I didn't even catch that...I suppose from Callis/Mayo's perspective, yes. Really hoping that for all our faults in regards to developing positional prospects, that we can maximize our pitching development juju with Kopech. Probably one of 2-3 guys in professional ball that might be able to help us forget Chris.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) While it seems kind of light, hard not to trust Prellers judgment of the LatAm signees. I saw some comments on twitter about that guy being pretty talented.
  23. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 07:15 PM) No one is going to argue that point. If anything, it's troubling the lack of talent the minor league system has produced over time, the new investment in the farm, yet the talent development has stayed the same. Yeah, it's crazy frustrating.
