QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:03 PM) Who else on this team is going to return a blue chip positional prospect? Maybe Avi if he hit like this the rest of the year. It had to be done. We only have so many chances at getting blue chip prospects in trades. There was no need to move him RIGHT NOW.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:02 PM) That's the game we're playing now. We are loading up on cards and hoping that a couple of ours wind up being kings and aces. The Yankees are playing a different game - they need a guy to continue winning coin flips after winning a coin flip this year. I don't think I'd have been thrilled with a return for either Robertson or Frazier, so using them to max out Kahnle's value now makes me happy. But that doesn't mean you have to move a guy like Kanhle today. He still had the opportunity to become a K or an A.

QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:00 PM) Just can't wrap my head around Kahnle alone being worth a Top 30 prospect. Not for 3 months of quality relief innings. I think Hahn used pretty much all the bullets he had left to acquire the best player possible. I'm OK with that. Yeah, I mean it isn't like he doesn't have incredible stuff. It isn't like we didn't trade a quality prospect for him BEFORE he broke out. I think you guys are getting a bit high on the prospect punch.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:58 PM) I fully disagree there. Rutherford, even with a bit of polish removed this year, was worth substantially more than Kahnle alone and making use of the other 2 pieces to make that happen, plus getting 2 smaller pieces back, is something I find myself content with. If I'm giving up Rutherford for a reliever I want a longer track record, plain and simple. Fair enough. But you are criticizing a guy that has done it in the big leagues against a guy in A ball. Seems a bit ironic.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:52 PM) I'm just trying to be realistic. It's weird, too, considering how insane the talent we've gotten is, that we should be all up in arms for only getting one top 50 prospect for our relievers, lol. I mean, guys. As of today, this MIGHT be the most talent the Sox have EVER had in their system. You can't ask for more than that. This is likely the best system we have ever had. Yippee. That gets you aboslutely jack s*** nothing. Am I excited? Of course! But that doesn't mean you just handwave away a huge asset that we just moved to get basically one solid prospect. Maybe I am underwhelmed by Clarkin, and I hope I am. But IMO, Kahnle himself was worth close to Rutherford himself. While Robertson is due some money, he's a dependable, solid closing option. I don't like the addition of Clarkin to bundle two pretty outstanding relievers together. Rutherford is still in high A ball afterall.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:47 PM) Kahnle could easily regress back to his normal form at any point. Robertson does nothing for a rebuilding club, and Frazier is a pure rental. This is a great great deal for the Sox And Rutherford could easily turn into nothing. Now you are just justifying your own desire to like this deal.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:19 PM) It's not outrageous to want one more good piece when you're trading two very good relievers and taking back some money as well. I'm not going to flip out if the last piece isn't a top talent as I'll be thrilled to have Rutherford but overall the deal would feel a little light to me. It's possible that some people overvalued Kahnle or Robertson but it's also possible some of you guys are undervaluing them, who knows. Like I said, I'll be thrilled to have Blake but overall not going to be thrilled about the deal. Always a reasonable man.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 07:53 PM) Where do you get this crap from? Theo all but said the Cubs were going to try to lose and they did. A lot. Maybe read a little more before saying a team that won 61 games in one season was trying to win? I may side with you on this issue, but Jake reads as much as anyone here. He's an awesome poster.
