By showing that they have some internal options?
-
Yesterday was all about trying to move certain teams off their current offers. That was why I said it was interesting that the Sox were not being mentioned.
-
How do you know they’re not just doing this for show?
-
No, the real negotiations are probably starting today, Shipps
-
If there are deferrals or other reasons they need to be “creative,” that indicates there are some hard stops there somewhere. I don’t believe those same hard stops exist for the Sox.
-
I don’t think Sox offer would consist of significant deferrals.
-
Yeah, you’re probably right.
-
Interesting point. I wonder if the income taxes would be applied to his place of residence at the time the deferred payment is made, which could conceivably be somewhere other than CA?
-
Still hoping that is a real possibility.
-
I’m with the rest of you...if they don’t come away with one, I’ll be just as furious. I’d also be very, very shocked.
-
Yeah, but Madrigal was playing ss.../

I think it’s pretty interesting that other teams are being mentioned as driving these deals to their conclusions...
-
Great idea! What were their general thoughts on the Phillies signing Harper?
-
I don’t know if Bowden is accurate, but Harper signing with another team is no proof of his intentions.
-
If anyone is being used, it would be the team the player is supposedly “rounding third base with,” not the team that has scarecely been mentioned.
-
He wouldn’t. The Giants are going to be brutal for several years. Long rebuilding road ahead for them.
-
I’m not sure adding two superstars in their primes “saddles” them. The franchise is in Chicago, not Miami. If they were to get both below market, build up television ratings, season ticket sales, and reach the postseason consistently, would that devalue the franchise? Do we believe it would be difficult to move these players in 3-4 years with 4-5 years on their deals?

Translate as Lozano giving Preller a chance to convince Machado to go to SD to play with Tatis
-
Yeah, we’re going to land at least one
-
You’re entitled to your opinion. And I get the skepticism. Once they made up rheir minds to rebuild, how would you grade their acquisitions?
-
They have money, your point is a good one. I think it would take a better offer than we’re willing to offer, and I just don’t see that happening unless it starts to approach something close to Harper’s range. I don’t think it’s possible the Sox don’t walk away with at least one guy unless they grossly misplay their hand.
-
I think if they honestly wanted to sign both, they’d need to either do it the old fashioned way, or try and be transparent about their intentions.

Appreciate the kind words ss2k. Both times. Tbh, part of my hesitation in not sharing more detailed info is because it’s not really mine to share. It feels very lame even writing someone else’s information as your own. But as I said earlier, I believe what some folks, who would have every reason to know, have told me, and at times, I come here and interject that. Im sorry it comes off as me being a know-it-all or having some air of importance, that’s not my intention. Just sharing what I believe to be true based on what people shared with me for the possible benefit of the group. I’m piecing this stuff together just like everyone else here.

This has been going on for nearly two months. While the parties certainly stay in contact, they aren’t exchanging new figures every other day. “What if I raise my offer by $3.5 million? Does that change your mind?”
-
You should read the 4K words I wrote about this. That’s not what I suggest would happen at all.
