  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) i just googled what i assume you are talking about(nude shot of Holmes) not too impressed. I stand by my statement Wow, you're a tough one to please...
  2. QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) And Otis Redding had his biggest hit ("(Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay") after he died. So did Janis Joplin...

  4. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) None of those pictures exist, so i guess this thread is useless Ever seen the movie "The Gift"?
  5. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) i got uncharted and played it a lot the first few days. I have a feeling once you beat it, it will start collecting dust. Probably a better game to rent. It was fun though. Yeah, I beat it a few weeks ago and haven't played it since, but seriously, what do you expect for $60? I played the game for about 12 hours and won it, and I am sure I will go back and play it a bit more after a few months. I figure for 12 hours of entertainment like that, $60 is worth it. Far more worth it then the 8 seconds it would take me to lose that in blackjack or the one evening it would take me to drink that in the bar...
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 07:40 AM) The "rumor" is BS. Per Dave Van Dyke White Sox general manager Ken Williams spent Saturday flatly denying a fast-spreading story that Paul Konerko was being traded to the Angels for infielder Howie Kendrick and pitcher Ervin Santana. "I haven't spoken to [Angels GM] Tony Reagins or anyone with the Angels since the winter meetings [in early December]," Williams said. We know. Read the thread.
  7. QUOTE(JFields27 @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 10:15 PM) well i dont think any of us expected kenny to come out and say "oh yeah we talked for a little bit, it was a good conversation. I said Konerko for 2 of the 3 of Santana, Kendrick, Figgins. Reagins said ok. I said ok. Press Conference next week see ya guys there" Yeah, I know....but still, I don't think he would deny it in the way he did in terms of Paulie. I wonder if these GM's call one another though after rumors like these leak out and joke about it....would love to be a fly on the wall for some of those phone calls...
  8. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) Just got this. Kong to angels a no go But..... - KW. Ahh, no fun.
  9. QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) curious if this kind of deal would be a possibility Angels get: Konerko Richar Chisox get: Kendrick Santana what do you think? I just wonder how much more salary the Angels can take on...
  10. QUOTE(scenario @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) The only 'official' story I've seen about it is on the Angels mlb.com page. There was a story mid-afternoon Saturday. It suggests that the deal being discussed was Konerko for 2 of Kendrick, Santana, and Figgins.... not all three of them... and it didn't mention any other players involved (Crede, etc.). Problem is these stories all seem to be emanating from one source: Doug Padilla's article this morning in the "Daily Breeze" (I think the Daily News article was taken from the Breeze article). So who knows how solid Padilla's sources are. Reagins refusing to confirm or deny was interesting though.
  11. QUOTE(JFields27 @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) yeah i posted this in this thread earlier .. it was over on WSI and everyone ripped the guy cuz no one heard it .. but i guess someone did hear it and espn 1000 may have been a bit premature and threw it out there and then they took it out .. here is the thing on the espn boards .. http://boards.espn.go.com/boards/mb/mb?spo...9498&lid=40 ONE person heard this?
  12. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) For those interested. Thanks Felix.... Can we discuss some realistic possibilities? Konerko isn't going to net Kendrick and Santana, unless we are taking back GMJ. I "guess" that is one possibility. The more likely is something along the lines of Konerko for Figgins and Santana. But I still don't think the Angels would want to take on that extra salary from Konerko, so I suppose there could be some other player coming back that makes some reasonable coin...maybe Speier, as others have suggested. That would also make some sense since we could use all the BP arms we can get our hands on. So is it worth it to move Paulie for a package of Figgins/Santana/Speier? I don't like it at first glance, but it reeks of the Carlos Lee deal Kenny made with Milwaukee prior to the 05' season, so we can't rule it out. I guess I would be disappointed though with losing Konerko if we didn't get Kendrick back though. He is the type of cost-controlled, high upside player Kenny needs to be targeting if he's going to be trading valuable veterans.
  13. Jeesh, some of those WSI peeps didn't like the fact that Adenhart was included in the rumored deal...
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) Why would the Sox take GM Jr.'s contract? He is owed more money than Konerko. To get the player(s) they actually want... I don't see the point of the Angels dealing value for Konerko unless they are able to ditch that bad contract. I can see them giving up Kendrick, if it means they rid themselves of Matthews. They can then easily make a deal with the Orioles for Brian Roberts if need be. Something along the lines of Konerko/Crede for Kendrick/Matthews. Then they move Kotchman/Saunders to the Orioles for Roberts, or an even bigger deal for both Roberts and Bedard.
  15. Was just listening to "Talking Baseball" with Bruce Levine and Chet Coppock. Coppock brought up the idea of dealing Konerko, and Levine didn't seem to think it would happen. Doesn't mean much, just thought I would mention it. They also had Jim Callis on from Baseball America who confirmed that the White Sox now probably have the worst farm system in all of baseball. Oh well. The station did mention the Daily Breeze report in it's Sports Center update, which I thought was interesting. I really don't want any part of Figgins....but I would love to have Kendrick...and if it meant taking back Matthews' salary, than so be it.
  16. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 04:57 AM) Konerko for Kendrick, Santana (Figgins dark horse) possible swap I love speculating in the offseason and not sure about this article/writer so take it FWIW. That's alot of $$$$$$$ and some ??? (2nd, SS, mostly, maybe C) and I doubt Scioscia puts Gary at DH and not Garret. WOW. There is actually a news report for that? That would be amazing....This would complete my offseason...
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 10:32 PM) I think it's pretty obvious that Swisher would move to 1B and we'd be getting a CF from the Angels, Figgins or Willits. The problem I see with the Angels is that any trade send Konerko there would have to bring back Kotchman, unless of course they have another deal set up to net them a position player in return...but I just don't see why they wouldn't trade Kotchman for that in the first place. And dealing Konerko to the Angels for Kotchman just doesn't seem like something the Sox would be willing to do right now considering the state of the team and the way our fanbase reacts to losing their favorite players. I'd love to get Kendrick back somehow, but I just can't see that happening...
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Whining? I'm just sad that our fans aren't all that bright, and yes it's a bitter pill to swallow when I see the majority of our fans are wrong. I hope you have a good excuse after we finish in 4th again this year though. So let me get this clear then....if you are one who believes Kenny is doing a good job and should stay, then you are "not that bright"? Is that what you are trying to get across here? Any Kenny supporter is not bright?
  19. I don't see the difference in us winning or losing being whether we make a marginal upgrade in CF with Crisp or Tavares. It seems to me the most prudent course of action would be to wait and see how competitive we are, and if an upgrade such as Crisp or Tavares would be something that could get us over the hump, than make that move then. Making it now seems somewhat foolish to me unless the cost is almost nothing. And it won't be.
  20. What frightens me is the thought of getting Jay Payton.
  21. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) Yeah-getting rid of a 200 inning pitcher for a shortstop we have for one year is the high point of his idea of improving. Williams has got to go The Garland/Cabrera deal is evaluated strictly on opinion as to this point. Using that as criteria for why Williams has to go is difficult to do since we haven't even seen the effects of this deal yet.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 08:37 AM) I agree about whay Kenny has done thus far, but I disagree with the idea that the current team is in the worst shape its been. The team was far, far worse in late 2007 regular season than it is right now. I think he is treating now, and this past season as basically one in the same, although he admits the latest moves have improved things a bit.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 08:35 AM) Its not some sort of checking account he has, that either has a balance to work with or doesn't... its an investment portfolio. The team has money most certainly, but not unlimited funds - the money spent has to be attached to a return. The Sox decided Hunter was WORTH 5/75 to them, not because they had $75M sitting around, but because they thought the return would be positive at that salary. So they had the money for Hunter, but that money isn't necessarily there for other possible players. Its case-by-case. Thank you for trying to explain this yet again. And it can even be explained more easily than that. Say I want to buy a new car. So I go to the dealership, some guy shows me some wonderful sports car- says it will allow me to deliver more papers on my paper route because it is so fast and handles so well.I start thinking to myself, "wow, I could probably make alot more money with this faster car- probably even enough to offset the monthly payment and make more profit then I currently am." So I say to the dealer, "What kind of financing can I get? Can you tell me what my monthly payments would be?" And so he tells me they can finance the car for 5 years, for $500 a month, with no money down. The total cost of the car is $25k. Then, just as I am about to make an offer on the car, Johnny the magazine subscription seller rolls in and offers the dealer $27k for the car. The dealer, surprised and blown away, accepts before Johnny changes his mind and sells him the car- the only one of that model they have in stock. Shocked, I go home empty-handed, and keep the car I already have. The next day, I'm playing my Wii on my roommates tv, and I accidently throw the controller right through the screen, breaking it. My roommate says "That tv cost $2,500. Give it to me NOW! I tell him I don't have $2,500. He says "Yes you do! You were going to buy a $25,000 car just yesterday! Don't lie to me!"
  24. QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ Dec 26, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) <!--quoteo(post=1553213:date=Dec 26, 2007 -> 05:50 PM:name=iamshack)-->QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 26, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) <!--quotec-->I really, really think you're misjudging the market for Prior here. And I really think you're overlooking his desire to pitch in San Diego for his buddy Kevin Towers. He took that deal because he wants to be comfortable and make his money beginning next year. I'd be really surprised if he didn't have at least 1-2 offers on the table for a guaranteed base of $3-4 million. Perhaps- I just cannot believe that any team in their right mind would pay that. Did you see him pitch against the Sox in ST last year?? He was about 200 lbs lighter than the Prior of 2003 and was topping out at 88 MPH with absolutely NO control. This is coming from the guy that could hit a tea cup at 95 a few years back. I just don't see him regaining form or pitching again in the big leagues unless he finds some new undetectable juice he can get on... Well I don't disagree with that assessment. But there are always a few teams that are willing to buy into the hype...
