  1. When did we ever hold the moral high ground? That's always been a myth. Have we been better than most? Yes. Are we still better than most? Yes.
  2. Pretty dumb protest on the part of the restaurant owners...all this does is embolden Trump supporters. Maxine Waters made it 100 times worse with her statement over the weekend. Sanders is now a martyr for the cause.
  3. Pretty smart IMO. If he demands a ton, let him go. If not, you'll get a good player at a reasonable price.
  4. Isn't next year's draft pretty meh compared to this year? This one has 5-6 high level prospects. Next year is pretty weak in comparison. Zion Williamson and who else? After reading more this morning I'm ok with the two picks. Sounds like the Bulls tried to move up but couldn't find a deal. Can't really say if that's on the Bulls or the other teams because we don't know what was offered/demanded. Even if they do get superstar talent at some point, you need quality players. I think Carter, for as boring and safe as it was, is just that. He'll be a solid starter. Someone who isn't going to blow you away but probably isn't someone you're embarrassed to play starter minutes.
  5. Not sure why or how the Bulls got pegged for that, but the story also quoted the dad as saying any team could watch him in a workout and inspect his back and they would all get a copy of the Bull's medical report. So he's not keeping his status a secret or giving the Bulls any special advantage. https://www.blogabull.com/2018/6/7/17436324/chicago-bulls-conducted-physical-for-michael-porter-jr
  6. The Bulls are going to move up in the draft, give up too much to do so, then draft Porter and he'll be the next Greg Oden while Doncic, Jackson or Bagley become the next Durant.
  7. If he drops and the Bulls could put a package together for Memphis' 4th pick - take on the Parsons contract, the 7th pick, and a 2nd rd pick, I would absolutely do it.
  8. I don't understand why Phoenix would take Ayton when the obvious best player here is Doncic. He (1) can sell tickets (2) be a must-watch guy on a nightly basis (3) is still incredibly young and (4) most importantly, is 6'8" with handles and a good shot making him a perfect all-around pick and roll player in today's NBA. Is it just so they don't piss off Devon Booker?
  9. So, Lebron, Kawhi and Paul George seems to be a real possibility. Can they grab Chris Paul too?
  10. No, I have too many trees so access to the area where I'll install is limited. I'll probably just roll the dice and see what happens
  11. Why on Earth would Lebron want to go play with 20 year olds? https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/lakers-reportedly-ask-lonzo-ball-kyle-kuzma-to-tone-down-social-media-insults-after-rap-diss-track/
  12. Is that a move to try and drop down the lottery to a better situation?
  13. I tried but couldn't get into it. Far too confusing for this old man, despite my many years of playing video games. I don't think it's very playable on the small screen either. Maybe while docked it would be ok. My gaming group tried State of Decay 2 last night. What a huge disappointment. The game looks/feels like it's from the 360/ps3 generation, had constant bugs and connectivity issues, and the co-op multiplayer is run from one single player's game, not a collective game. That meant that the person that started the game had to complete all the quests (so if you had to go pick up X item and place it back in your house, the group could go kill whatever zombie had the item and pick it up, but then they had to drop the item so that the main player could "turn it in." So dumb. I wish Valve would make another left 4 dead game. Not the battle royal crap, just a solid group/team kind of game. That's totally missing from the marketplace right now. Sea of Thieves could have been that, but there's just not enough variety and it's painfully repetitive.
  14. Even if we assume that this is all intentional to suppress D votes, the act itself is still not oppressive. It's a fucking postcard. It's voting in a 4 year period of time ONCE. That's not an unreasonable barrier. And yes, if you believe that is a barrier, then you also have to believe that registration itself is a barrier since registration takes more work.
  15. Because your right to vote isn't absolute. There is nothing improper or suppressive about having rules and requirements to vote. Some have been and some in the future may be, but I think if you're taking the position that this postcard issue is oppressive, than having ANY rule or requirement is also oppressive, which is, IMO, ridiculous.
  16. Yes, I wholeheartedly disagree with your fundamental belief that questioning liberal-think automatically means you're racist/sexist/classist/etc.
  17. And as I argued yesterday, which you ignored, ANY effort, ANY means of voting is necessarily going to impact more liberals than conservatives simply based on class. Voter registration itself is a suppressive tactic according to you simply because the end result is more D's will be left home than R's. I fundamentally disagree with that. And as I prefaced my first post on this topic, I have no idea if it's even a big deal to keep someone on a registry, so this may be a completely unnecessary move by the state of ohio. That's a separate argument. All i'm arguing is that requiring that someone turn in a pre-addressed/pre-stamped postcard AND vote in a four year period of time is not an oppressive barrier to voting.
  18. Lol, so I guess the majority of people in this thread arguing it is oppressive should be ignored too, huh?
  19. He was matching Trump's craziness for a while there. Then he suddenly wanted to play nice, attend the Olympics, meet with SK, etc
  20. I'm still curious about the sudden shift in Kim's thinking. Was he starting to lose power at home? Were Trump's threats taken seriously? Is this just a long con?
  21. Nah, I just get sick of the weak argument that putting forth any effort whatsoever to vote is considered oppression. Especially since you all think other constitutionally protected rights require barrier after barrier after barrier to make sure it's as difficult as possible to exercise.
  22. I think the whole "the rest of the world hates us" stuff is overplayed, as it was during the Bush years. I didn't see much change in the radical shift during Obama's admn. That said, neither Bush nor Obama were anti-globalization and they, for better or for worse, still wanted the US to lead the world in just about every way. Trump isolationism mixed with his "fuck you, we're America" attitude is pretty alarming. I guess we'll see how badly the world needs us/relies on us in the coming years....
  23. Probably because you also have the right not to vote if you don't want to. But more practically, you want some system in place to verify you are who you are and that you are entitled to vote in whatever election you are voting in (again, if you live in Chicago you shouldn't be voting for something in California). I think it's silly to consider registration an acceptable practice but verification of an address is somehow a huge burden that can't be overcome. You're taking away the pre-requisite to voting which is registration. Nothing that i've read states that Ohio is then placing additional requirements on people after they've been removed from the registry to be able to vote again. Again, EVERYONE goes through an administrative step at some point in order to vote. Why on earth is this verification suddenly a massive hurdle that is unacceptable? Let's assume people can same day register - is this system of removing people that don't verify their address and vote in the next four years still a problem?? And sure, multiple systems can and should be used before removing someone, and notice of being removed should absolutely be required, but sending a postcard to the address that needs to be verified seems to be a pretty simple and logical means to do this...
