Ridge should have made this allegation public when it was happening so Americans could have voted their outrage.

Interesting to look at this assessment coming into 09

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) #17: Chicago White Sox (from fangraphs.com) He built a bullpen out of waiver claims like Bobby Jenks and Matt Thornton. False. Matt Thornton was acquired in a trade. -
QUOTE (vandy125 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 07:27 AM) Having a gap in coverage is something that a lot of young people do, and this is a pretty big risk as this guy found out. If his family is able to afford a $1000 monthly rent apartment by the hospital in addition to what they had before, they could have found a way to afford health insurance for the year that he was not covered. This is also why I think everyone should be required to have some sort of health insurance. It will remove these types of situations and will help drive down costs because those healthy, invincible young people will also need coverage. He and plenty his age are taking a big gamble and some are losing. It is also possible that young people without insurance are in that position because they do not have a job that gives benefits and thus cannot afford it. With the job market, it's reasonable to assume these recent college graduates go without health insurance not because they are risk takers, but because they cannot land a job that gives benefits in the year followng graduation.

Does Williams ever play a position or does he always DH? Why does he usually DH?

Non Partisan Discussion-1976 vs 2008 Election
Chet Lemon replied to jasonxctf's topic in The Filibuster
I think that in the '70's many people in the south identified themselves as Democrats, while many northeastern and midwestern states had a lot more self-described Republicans. A lot of those same people and their children have switched their parties since. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) Dems aren't talking about economic freedom because a government takeover of healthcare isn't on the table. BOOOOOOOOO! YOURE LYING!!! It IS happening.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
Chet Lemon replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is a waiver move for a player of this caliber unprecedented? -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) Yeah, it's a mutual option which means it won't be exercised (those things never are). I assumed you were referring to a platoon situation at DH. Regardless, Dye and Dunn really have no business playing the field at this point, I really have no interest in going through another year with one of the game's top 3 worst defenders in a corner spot, this pitching staff isn't designed to handle that kind of incompetence behind them. Regarding the mutual option, so it boils down to either the player gets a new multi-year deal or they leave? I never knew how they worked, I just figured he and the team would agree on $12 mil for '10 and let it ride.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) Why would either player go for that and how is that at all financially responsible? Is there a Mutual Option in '10 for Dye? Would Dye not agree to come back? I honestly don't know, so please explain. I guess it's financially responsible because Dye would be worth the money for '10 and letting Thome go frees up some salary (as would Dotel and Count's contracts). Trading for Dunn would be responsible to fill the hole left by Thome's exit. Having Dye DH part of the time and play corner OF the other part of the time over a season is more responsible than expecting to run him out and play in the field 150+ games.
-
Let Thome go, keep Dye for '10, trade for Dunn, and have those two split time as the DH.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 08:48 AM) That doesnt bother me nearly as much as the number of people who believe someone other than Al Qaeda was responsible for 9/11 QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) Doesn't even come close to the numbers who believe The Evil George Bush was behind it. You were the one who said you were bothered by those who believe someone other Al Qeda was responsible. I am too. 70% of Americans thought it was Saddam in '02 (40% believed the same in '07 per Newsweek poll), and you asserted that those numbers don't come near those who believe George Bush was behind it, that means a lot. I was just underscoring your point of the vast number of people who believe someone besides Al qaeda was responsible.

I liked both of KW's Vazquez trades. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 08:48 AM) That doesnt bother me nearly as much as the number of people who believe someone other than Al Qaeda was responsible for 9/11 A lot of people believed (and still believe) that Saddam Hussein was responsible for 9/11.

What percentage of people who assert that the President was born in Kenya can locate Kenya on a map? It would be a simple test; just show them a blank map of the world with all the countries' borders.

Should the White Sox trade Jenks and try to sign Webb, too?

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) I remember in 1997 with Roberto Hernandez, we went through Bill Simas, Matt Karchner, Bobby Howry, Keith Foulke, Tom Gordon, Damaso Marte, Billy Koch, Shingo Takatsu and Dustin Hermanson before we got another good closer in Jenks. In fact, there was a deluge of semi-questionable closers prior to Bobby Thigpen like Bob James, Ron Reed, Dennis Lamp, Salome Barojas, Ed Farmer, Mike Proly, Lerrin LaGrow, Jim Willoughby, and Dave Hamilton. Foulke was actually an excellent pitcher during his White Sox tenure--mostly during the heyday of the steriod era. He put up very comparable numbers to Jenks. Foulke's White Sox stats: 0.84 HR/9, 2.11 BB/9, 8.71 K/9, 0.98 WHIP Jenks' MLB numbers: 0.60 HR/9, 2.90 BB/9, 8.60 K/9, 1.17 WHIP -

I see Ramirez is not in the starting lineup. Does anyone know if he will be available to pinch-hit today? -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) This writer is a terrible person. Probably a terrible writer though. They say a good writer will never write about something he hasn't experienced first hand. Obviously, anyone who has sat out by that section of U.S. Cellular knows the seats are a good four feet away from the fence. That challenges his credibility. -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 07:18 PM) When Brandon Allen is your best option after Thome you have problems. The list of available LH middle-of-the-order hitters you posted isn't impressive. Dunn would be the best of the lot. I used to be opposed to Dunn, but he would be an excellent replacement for Thome. He has hit 40 or more HR's each of the last five consecutive seasons and has a career OBP of .383 covering eight MLB seasons. In addition, he is on pace to exceed 40 this year. You know you will be getting great power numbers from the guy.

I have read many hypothetical/speculative trades involving Dotel from all types of sources. Why would the Sox want to move him this year? Linebrink has been disappointing. Pena has not pitched well at all this year. Jenks' WHIP is rising. Second to Thornton and maybe DJ, I think Dotel is one we need this year.

We can't win the division with the 4/5 pitchers we have
Chet Lemon replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) Have you looked at his WHIP in the last month? The guy has trouble getting the opposing team's bottom of the order out. He's been completely ineffective. He comes in to create a mess and leaves for someone else to clean it up. That is called pulling an '05 version of Marte. -
Pretending Thome is not back w/ the team next year, who would the Sox likely have to give the Nats to bring Dunn over in the offseason?
-
QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) As much as it would bum me out to let Thome go, I would keep Dye as our DH and let Jim walk. I fully concur. As a replacement for Thome's LH power-bat in the order, could Dunn be acquired for the 2010 season?
