  1. I’ve answered the question in other threads. Option 1 would be JDM. Option 2 would be Castellanos. Option 3 would be Moustakas.
  2. I guess I want to see what the Sox have with Collins before spending big money at the catcher’s position. He’s been on a tear since his demotion. Let’s see what the kid can do. McCann has bought the Sox some time to break Collins in much more slowly than expected coming into this season.
  3. All of baseball was against that type of contract for him last winter. Yes, he had a QO attached but he was also a year younger.
  4. I’m not a fan of giving that kind of money and years to a catcher like Grandal who turns 31 later this year. I’d rather ride it out next year with McCann and Collins and then make a big splash with Realmuto next winter if you’re still looking for an upgrade at catcher.
  5. Yep. With the emergence of McCann this season, it allows the Sox with the perfect opportunity of breaking in Collins slowly without asking too much of him (e.g. only starting in games where the opposing starter is a righty, splitting time between catcher and DH, etc).
  6. Will they be willing to pay a platoon player $5/6M next season and potentially even more than that in 2021? https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/texas-rangers/rangers/2019/08/02/considered-pillar-future-nomar-mazaras-future-could-question-after-rangers-recent-roster-moves
  7. The Padres best player by fWAR this season after Tatis is their closer. They have decent depth and a higher payroll but no real standouts after Tatis. The Sox currently lack depth, severely, but have a few stars with a few more on the way next season (both internally and externally I hope). Padres have to hope for additional internal stars to emerge or trades because they already blew their load in free agency with Hosmer and Machado. Unlike the Padres, the Sox have a ton of payroll flexibility heading into this offseason. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/2020/
  8. I think that’s an overpay on the Sox’ part. I’d give them a couple low level minor leaguers but that’s it. Quite frankly, Mazara is a non-tender candidate, if not this winter then next winter if he continues as a 0.5-1 WAR type player that he’s been his entire career thus far.
  9. I’d prefer a huge run and the #14 pick than staying the course and their current #9 slot
  10. But in all seriousness, goes to show you what a difference having one or two guys back in the lineup can make. Hopefully get Eloy back soon but just having Moncada back with Timmy again while Abreu and McCann continue doing their thing has made this a formidable offense. Just wait until they add Robert, Madrigal, and hopefully a big free agent bat for next season.
  11. He’s worth more than Mazara and the Sox shouldn’t need him as an everyday player next season.
  12. I’d be furious if they traded Collins for Mazara.
  13. I didn’t phrase it well. My question was where would his current wRC+/ OPS rank at DH. You answered it. He’d basically be average for that position assuming his production this season carries forward. I’m really hoping for better than average, which is why I’ve been on the JDM bandwagon for awhile (with Castellanos as the fall back option (he has a longer track record than Narvaez and same age).
  14. How well does a 800 OPS translate at DH in terms of wRC+? Honest question because I’m really hoping for better than that next season out of our DH (as I said in previous post I believe Abreu will be back as the 1b and yes I know the horrific DH production this season for the Sox)
  15. Would you carry 3 catchers on the roster next season? I’m taking McCann and Collins over Narvaez next year and beyond. I’m really hoping we see a dramatic upgrade at DH next season, someone better than Narvaez. As much as everyone wants Abreu at DH next season, the Sox have no better option at 1b so he’s going to be there again.
  16. I’d bet there’s a higher probability that Collins is the more productive player of the two when this team is a contender. The Sox didn’t give Collins a fair run earlier this year in the bigs but his offensive track record in the minors is far superior to that of Narvaez. Of course, that doesn’t guarantee success in the bigs but I’m willing to wager he’s the better bet when this team needs that LH hitting backup catcher/1b/DH starting next season. I’m sorry but Narvaez was awful behind the plate. In the limited time I saw Collins this summer, he already looked better defensively than Narvaez.
  17. Isn’t that the plan for Collins though?
  18. Weren’t @fathom, @Balta1701 and @Moan4Yoan saying earlier this year that his defense vastly improved? Maybe I’ve got the wrong posters but there were at least a few saying that and many saying that trading Narvaez was a mistake. Truth is, he’s a DH.
  19. I hope so but right now I’d peg it at a 30-40% chance he opts out. Really depends on how he finishes over the next 30 games. But I’d love to bring in JDM on a 3 year deal if he did opt out.
  20. I bumped the thread I started back in April projecting the future Sox lineup in case you’re interested. Looks pretty ? still. Worth noting that April was also before Robert and Madrigal really took off, Yoan and Timmy were only showing early glimpses out what they would become, and Vaughn hadn’t been drafted yet.
