  1. I agree with this and that’s why I think the Sox will draft college guys in the first round the next few years. I don’t think they want to wait 5+ years for these guys to contribute. If they draft a guy like Jac, he’s with the Sox in 2026 two years after he was drafted like Andrew Vaughn. Let’s hope Jac turns out better than Vaughn but that’s the type of timeline I think we should reasonably expect.
  2. Simple question. Do you think a draftee like Jac Caglianone won’t be an MLB contributor until 2029 at the earliest? That’s 5+ years from next months draft.
  3. The discussion was that after we draft a guy it takes 5+ years before they’re mlb contributors. That’s simply not the case, even for a “shitty” draft/development org like the Sox. I fully expect Jac to be a significant mlb contributor by 2026/2027 even if the terrible Sox development team is responsible for his development.
  4. Cannon is another guy drafted less than two years ago and already pitching for the Sox. He’s one of three players from the 2022 draft class to make it to MLB - Drew Thorpe is one of the others. So where are we getting 5+ years before these college draftees are mlb contributors? I’m not seeing it.
  5. How so? Crochet was an impact player the same year he was drafted. Only thing that stopped him was injury. Montgomery and Schultz were high schoolers. Despite that, Schultz should be with the Sox next year, 3 years after he was drafted. Jac will be mlb ready by 2026 unless he’s a bust.
  6. Shirley took over as amateur scouting director in September 2019. Sox first round picks since then: Garrett Crochet, Colson Montgomery, Noah Schultz, Jacob Gonzalez. The first guy is #2 in fWAR of all mlb pitchers this season. The next two are T50 prospects in MLB. We will see what these guys become at the big league level but that’s a pretty significant improvement in drafting and development from prior years.
  7. You think if the Sox draft Jac next month it’s going to take 5+ years for him to be an MLB contributor? Why? And you don’t need a lineup full of stars. Cleveland’s lineup is built around Jose Ramirez and 2018 5th round pick Steven Kwan.
  8. No, seriously get a life. it’s 80 degrees on a Sunday afternoon in chicago and you’re spending your entire afternoon on a message board bashing the Sox. Find another hobby or something. It’s unhealthy. I gotta get the grill fired up for a bbq, enjoy your evening doing something other than this (I hope).
  9. Sure man, whatever. You clearly spent your entire afternoon posting about how much the Sox suck on this message board. Get a life.
  10. This was my initial post: “There’s going to be some growing pains no doubt but this is a good time for these young starting pitchers to get their feet wet. Better now than finding yourself in a situation like the Orioles who otherwise have a World Series team but their rotation is crumbling with each passing day. 22 runs allowed over the last 16+ innings to the Astros, which comes on the heels of losing their #2 starter for the year ouch” You just couldn’t help taking this post as an opportunity to bring our GM into the discussion, yet again. Funny thing is we’re not even trying to win this season after trading half the team last July, have one of the worst teams in mlb history this season, and yet I’d still rather have our current rotation than the Orioles rotation lol
  11. Would I rather have the team on pace for 100 wins or on pace for 100 losses? What kind of question is that. I have no idea if Getz is any good. He hasn’t even led one mlb draft yet for this team and has been in the GM role for less than 12 months. Was Elias the second coming of Theo Epstein back in 2019? I sure didn’t hear soxtalk showering him with praise back then.
  12. You could have asked this same question of the two clubs in 2020 and the obvious answer would have been the Sox. You clearly don’t understand how cycles work for most small market teams (yes, Jerry runs the Sox like a small market team). The Orioles sucked ass for 4 years and now they’re good again. But odds are they’ll be shitty again in another 4 years unless they no longer operate like a small market team.
  13. They’ve made the playoffs once under Elias. You’re acting like they’ve already won a title and been in the playoffs five years in a row ?
  14. It’s easy to tear down and suck for 5+ years. It’s hard putting a team over the top to win a World Series. Elias hasn’t yet done anything more than what Hahn did with the Sox.
  15. Literally, look at their projected rotation next season without Burnes and Bradish. Rodriguez, Suarez, Povich, Kremer, Irvin. It’s an absolute mess for a team with WS aspirations. At a minimum, they need a #1 and a #3. That won’t come cheap whether it’s via trade or free agency
  16. Cycles my man. The Sox are where the Orioles were at in 2018. Things will look a lot different for both clubs in another 5 years too.
  17. And acquiring Burnes for this season and this season only will mean absolutely nothing if they miss the playoffs or get knocked out in the first round again. How’s that rotation looking next year without Burnes and Bradish? Elias better get ready to unload 4 of his top 5 prospects in order to fill out a competent starting rotation. Unless they start spending like a top 5-10 team, windows close more quickly than one might think (we as Sox fans know this better than anyone).
  18. Much like the 2020/2021 Sox the Orioles have yet to win anything. Again, if they don’t get their rotation figured out and Elias is too stingy to trade a few of his mid 20 year hitting prospects wasting away in AAA for significant MLB arms, they aren’t going anywhere.
  19. And despite all that they’re going to end up like the early 2020s Sox if they don’t get their mess of a starting rotation figured out. They’re a Burnes injury away from not even making the playoffs despite their ungodly wealth of hitters. Still need pitching..
  20. There’s going to be some growing pains no doubt but this is a good time for these young starting pitchers to get their feet wet. Better now than finding yourself in a situation like the Orioles who otherwise have a World Series team but their rotation is crumbling with each passing day. 22 runs allowed over the last 16+ innings to the Astros, which comes on the heels of losing their #2 starter for the year ouch
  21. Depends on how you define legit bats? Is DeJong a legit bat? Is Pham a legit bat? I think those are the types of veterans we’ll be looking at in free agency and then they gotta hit on the next several drafts. Jac would be a good start in a few weeks.
  22. In reference to acquiring the hitters that you so desire. There are multiples avenues to accomplish it, not just trades.
  23. Can never have enough pitching. Also, Sox can emphasize hitters in the draft and free agency next few years.
