  1. QUOTE (bmags @ May 11, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) Development isn't always a linear path, see our own 2014 pick. If he gets back to being a great OBP/Power hitter then he'll be a great asset. Red Sox miss their defensively-missing LH power hitter. That's exactly my point. Because of his other limitations, he has to hit like Ortiz or Thomas to live up to the hype and be a great asset. Otherwise he's just a guy, let's call him Kendrys Morales for lack of a better term.
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 10, 2017 -> 07:27 PM) And was great(albeit in an extremely small sample size) in a World Series in which he missed an entire season. He also put up monster numbers in the minor leagues. It's easy to see why Cubs fans and pundits love the guy. That said, he's been awful so far this year. Like you said, his overall story can go a lot of ways but I'm guessing the guy becomes becomes a pretty great hitter. How would you define "great" hitter? Are we talking Frank Thomas/David Ortiz numbers? Anything less and I just can't see how he'd live up to the hype. He basically has to hit at that level to be a consistent 3-4+ WAR player due to his baserunning and defensive limitations. His career could go one of two ways and it's really not that hard to imagine it taking a turn for the worse if he doesn't figure out how to adjust to the league's adjustments. Personally, I don't see a lot of value in a DH that can only hit righties (even that has been a struggle this year), especially for an NL team.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 09:08 PM) I agree with every part of your post. I'm saying don't waste your time with Jordan4life. Anyone that says Kyle f***ing Scwarber has them "more shook" than any player in baseball other than Mike Trout is a total f***ing clown. Oh ok. Thought you were calling me a clown for my post. I just can't believe how overrated Schwarber is. He's a one dimensional player and unless he's mashing like big papi in his prime he's going to be hard pressed to be a 3+ WAR player over a full season because of his defensive limitations. Yet some Sox fans I know want to trade Q for him straight up and some people somehow think he's a top 20 player in baseball. I really don't get it. I can't think of another player more overrated in today's game.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 08:31 PM) Don't waste your time with this clown, he's just looking for attention. Come again? What part of my post do you disagree with and name another player that's more overrated than Schwarber. For christ's sake, you'd think he was the second coming of Babe Ruth for all the hype he's gotten over the past two years.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) you're not going to like this, rowand44. But Kyle Schwarber eats baseballs and has me shooker than any player in baseball sans Mike Trout. Pretty sure Schwarber is the most overrated player in baseball. He's struggling big time with off speed stuff this year. Plus he's a complete liability in the field.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 12:33 PM) When Moncada became available late in the signing period, he got $31.5 mill from the Red Sox (who I believe were already over). That should probably factor into your estimate and skew the number up more a bit. I did not use Moncada's number for three reasons; One, the typical big spenders on international free agency aren't even in the running for Robert (Boston, LA, CHC, NYY, etc). I don't think this can be minimized. Two, I believe Moncada was generally more highly regarded than Robert. Three, Moncada is the current #1 prospect in MLB and has basically been top 5 since signing. While Robert has the potential to get there, he's not there yet in most people's eyes.
  7. Some have stated Robert would be a potential 1-1 pick in this year's draft. Also, it has been stated that he is the top international prospect currently available and a potential top 25 prospect in MLB upon signing. So what is that worth on the open market? A few points of reference: - The last two 1-1 picks have signed for an average of $6.3MM (understood that this number is heavily skewed because of the cap rules) - The top international prospect in 2016 and #29 ranked per MLB pipeline Kevin Maitan signed for $4.25MM - The top international prospect in 2015 and #14 ranked in Rays org per MLB pipeline Lucius Fox signed for $6MM Based on some of the reference points above, I don't see it taking more than a $13MM signing bonus to land Robert. But are the White Sox willing to pony up $25MM (including tax) to sign him?
  8. QUOTE (SouthWallace @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 06:44 PM) Found this interesting: CST_soxvan: Willy Garcia, a RF by trade, starting in CF for Charlotte. "We’ll see what he’s capable of doing out there as a possibility,'' Hahn said. https://twitter.com/cst_soxvan/status/854479521545945089 It's almost like Hahn listened to me. I was semi-ridiculed for proposing this very thing yesterday afternoon...
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) Seriously. I do not want to see an OF defense that has Melky in LF, Willy in CF and Avi in RF. The three stooges. I guess it depends on what you feel is more important. For me, I'd rather have May's defense in CF than Willy's bat. Willy is the better hitter but May is the better defender. I found it intriguing that Garcia's Range Factor in CF two years ago was similar to May's Range Factor in CF last year. Maybe Willy has lost a step in the past two years? Would seem odd though for someone that's only 24. Either way, I don't see May as a great defender. If they want all defense and no offense, Engel is a better option than May.
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 12:23 PM) How is Willy capable of playing CF? His lack of speed won't play well in CF and the scouting reports seem to say Willy is a corner OF. I wouldn't count on seeing Willy in CF. Played it quite a bit two years ago. Not saying he's going to be a plus defender out there but if he's even not awful his bat appears to play better than any of the other current options.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) Because he has a better bat than than Leury (2017 SSS be damned) and May. I was all for giving May a shot at CF, so I'm not mad about the move or anything. But its obvious he has no business in the big leagues, and probably never will. I'm not sure Bourjos has a better bat than Garcia at this point in their careers. Garcia put up decent offensive numbers in AAA over the last two seasons while Bourjos has been well below average offensively since he left LAA in 2013. I'd give Garcia a slight advantage due to his trend line seemingly pointing up while Bourjos' is pointed down. Given that Garcia is also 4 years younger I don't see this trend reversing itself any time soon. Either way, I believe they should start working the other Garcia (Willy) in CF in AAA because his bat represents the biggest upside of anyone currently in AA or AAA that is capable of playing CF.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) That would be great, but I would even take Robertson for Candelario. I just hope we're past the lowball Pedro Severino scenarios. I'm hoping the Cardinals get back in the wild card hunt. They have bullpen issues and I would love to see a Robertson for Kelly trade. I'd think this is something the Cardinals would definitely consider too if they are in the playoff race come July.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Most likely yah. Would look much better W Bourjos in there. Sucks we don't have anyone else we can throw out there in CF. May needs to go back to AAA. Engel has been awful in AAA. Tilson is not expected back til June sometime, right? Why? L. Garcia is outhitting him this season thus far.
  14. What is a realistic return for Robertson at the deadline if he has a dominant first half? By dominant, I mean 90%+ in save opp, ERA Could he net a top 25 prospect? A guy like Jimenez if the Cubs bullpen implosion continues and Davis gets hurt? Or a guy like Robles if the Nats feel they are a closer away from being a title contender?
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 11:54 AM) When you look at the offense we have now, and realize we gave up Eaton, and will be losing Frazier in the next year, plus Abreu before we are good again, that isn't very much help. Not being able to add in any offense this winter (really Moncada in with Eaton out is probably close to a wash long term) just means another year of rebuilding and looking for offense on the back side of this. After the Sale and Eaton trades, I'm glad they didn't add any offense via FA this winter. I hope they do the same next offseason. This team is at least 2-3 years away from competing so might as well save that $ for when it is really needed like two winters from now. At some point, they do need to unload Q, Jones, and Robertson for position player prospects though. While it may be realistic to sign two players like Brian Dozier and Wilson Ramos two years from now, they are going to need a lot more than that to compete even if guys like Anderson, Collins, and Moncada are contributing.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 5, 2017 -> 09:28 PM) So that is the biggest choke job in sport so history right? Easily. Just brutal. Give Patriots credit but damn that was an epic choke by Atlanta over the last 20 minutes of that game.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 07:21 PM) Now if the Sox can get both Avi and Melky off the field, then the outfield could look much more lively out there if we see players like Bourjos, Engel, May thrown into the mix. Screw it. Just DFA Avi, move Melky to DH, throw Tilson in LF, Engel in CF, Bourjos in RF. They won't hit much but at least their defense should save some wear and tear on the pitchers. Plus, their lack of hitting will add to the TANK FOR BEER '18 campaign. Exactly my thoughts
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 07:48 PM) He only has 161 plate appearances in AAA in which he struck out 31% of the time. I'd call giving him a stating gig out of spring training would be rushing. Doesn't necessarily have to break camp with the big league team but I would be very surprised if he wasn't called up before July 4th (unless something went terribly wrong, like hitting .225 in AAA). Between injuries and trades it's hard to imagine a scenario where he doesn't get significant big league action in 2017.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 06:27 PM) No way in hell Tilson would start in CF over Engel, but regardless that might be the worst offensive OF in baseball history. You might not get 15 HRs out of that OF. Didn't put them in any particular order in previous post. I'd go LF - Tilson, CF - Engel, RF - Bourjos. And yes it would be brutal offensively but so is Avi. Might as well field a top 5 outfield defense then. Sure would help our future trade chips Q and Robertson.
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 05:56 PM) Who is even left to play OF at that point to form "one of the better defensive OF's in baseball"? An outfield of Engel/Tilson/Bourjos would be quite stout defensively
  21. Not sure if it has already been posted but this is a very well written (and scary) article. Everything that the article speaks to regarding Trump supporters is evident even here on this forum. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archiv...tocracy/513872/
  22. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 07:52 PM) 81. Collins 71. Fulmer 46. Lopez 16. Kopech 12. Giolito 2. Moncada Strong!
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 08:16 AM) Did you read the write-up? He has Giolito at #13 and Michael Kopech at #7. No just saw the Moncada rank on Twitter. So basically Kopech is the only White Sox player that he will rank higher than Callis?
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) Give credit to Atlanta. They are fantastic offensively. I am surprised the Falcons are underdogs. People must not have watched them, but they have gotten better and better as the season has worn on. Matt Ryan is playing some fantastic football. Goes to show that if you give a good QB the right weapons and coaches, they can play at an elite level (I've always been a Ryan fan). I long felt the same about Cutler, but obviously that is said and done at this point for him. I do think if Jay goes to San Fran with Shanny, we might actually see him win and I personally will be hoping he does well. As good as Atlanta's offense is that defensive performance was brutal. Their corners, and Randall in particular, are playing the receivers 10 yards back and Atlanta was hitting them with short crossing and out routes all game. Defense never made any adjustments. Dropping into zone coverage, missed assignments, no creativity, etc. Add in the lack of play making on multiple fumble and INT opportunities combined with poor tackling and it was an all around horrendous effort. I realize Capers didn't have much to work with given the injuries and overall lack of talent on the defensive side but he did absolutely nothing to improve their chances to succeed.
