  1. thornton has NO pickup move hes really easy to read
  2. yea he is. looks like the only professional hitter in our lineup these days. 2 for 3 today with a walk and a SB hes turning out to be a very nice little leadoff hitter for our sox
  3. heres an idea lets just start bringing up the whole AAA lineup, we can start with terrero fields wiki sweeney we'd probably score more runs
  4. and maybe the white sox organization has already determined that anderson is not the future CF for the white sox right or wrong maybe 400 ABs was all they needed to make that decision
  5. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) The team is better with Erstad this year. My problem is that he's on the wrong side of 30, he's had injuries in the past, and he doesn't give the White Sox any sense of stability in CF for the future. Atleast with Anderson, if you get him 1000 career ABs in the majors - which is a full season's worth of playing time this year - you can see if he is the future or not. With Erstad you already know he is not the future in CF. Beyond that, if the Sox are going to bring in an older CFer like that and have them start, I'd atleast like them to be better than a .725 OPS player at his best. Had the Sox brought in even Rowand, I would have been satisfied because he is going to put up a .700-.725 OPS at his worst with the potential to put up an OPS in the .800-.850 range. I didn't want it done at the time, but that's because I thought Anderson was going to get a fair shake in CF. Now that I know he never had a chance, I would have preferred Rowand, and that I know for sure. well heres the thing dude rowand isnt going to be playing for the 2007 chicago white sox and darin erstad is so i guess you are just going to have to deal with it. instead of complaining about darin erstad maybe you should start complaining about AJ hitting .213 konerko hitting under .200 or the fact that erstad has as many homeruns right now as joe crede. erstad is the least of the sox concerns at this point and maybe ozzie actually does know the difference between a major league hitter (ie. erstad) and one that isnt quite ready yet to be an everyday starter (ie. anderson)
  6. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 09:00 PM) Duh, because the more hits and stolen bases you get, the bigger grinder you are, and if you're a grinder, you're damn good. Don't consider extra base hits or walks, because those aren't very grindy. I'm just surprised that Dye comparisons aren't coming up more, seeing as how the two are such similar ballplayers. I think everybody arguing about this is wasting time. However, it atleast provides more entertainment than talking about how horrible the team has been offensively thus far. So I keep doing it basically for that. just curious, what does erstad have to do this year for you to admit that this white sox team is a better team this year with him in there as opposed to anderson? seriously, id like to know because it seems like you are always knocking darin even after he has shown signs of being a real contributor to this team, and he already has contributed more offensively to the team this year in a month then anderson did all of last year
  7. too bad erstad cant hit 9 times in a row since hes the only one that seems to have a clue right now
  8. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 02:13 AM) Two more hits for Erstad. He's up to .250. not only did he have two hits but he also had a bunt single taken away on a terrific play by weaver and hit the ball hard to center on his other out. he is definitely swinging the bat better than anyone else on the team over the past two weeks. its a shame the hatred that some have for erstad has overshadowed his stellar play as of late. and in the leadoff spot he is now hitting over .300
  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 06:27 AM) Brian had a better spring than Darin so why does he deserve the shaft? because he sucks when it counts
  10. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) Cool. He found a hole. Still sucks at baseball. yea erstad why do you suck so much?! all you do is get big hits late in games! java script:emoticon(':bang', 'smid_6')
  11. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) Cool. He found a hole. Still sucks at baseball. yea i just dont get this blind love for anderson and hatred for erstad. if you have actually watched any games recently it is night and day between the two as to who looks more comfortable at the plate. its really not close and for people to continue to say that BA would put up decent numbers if he played everyday is hard to understand since he has shown no signs of doing so at the major league level. i'm looking at this from an unbias perspective because i want someone in there that is going to give the sox a better chance to win and i just don't think anderson has much to offer offensively at this point in his career. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 26, 2007 -> 08:49 AM) Anderson's not a slap hitter, and other cfs with moderate power have similar strikeout rates. Mike Cameron strikes out 1 in 4 abs, Torii Hunter about 1 in 5. It's not by itself very important. if anderson starts putting up 25-30 homers and driving in 80-100 RBI a year (ie. torii hunter) then i could care less about the K's but if hes going to be in the 15-20 hr and 50-70 RBI range (projected over the course of a full season) then he better be making better contact and getting that average up close to .270 at the very least at this point in his career, his numbers are as follows: 416 AB 10 HR 36 RBI .216 batting average im sorry but thats just not getting the job done, i dont care if hes only 25, thats just terrible
  12. anderson has now struck out an astounding 26.2% of his ABs just to give that some perspective, slammin sammy has struck out 26.1% of his ABs in his career this goes back to the point where i honestly do think there is something wrong with Ba's depth pereception or physically something wrong there, unless he develops into some kind of power threat there is no way he should be striking out more than once every four ABs thats pitiful
  13. BA, for once in your life you have a chance to prove all the doubters wrong and come up with a big hit. geez, 3-1 85 MPH cockshot and you swing and miss? dude needs to get his eyes checked or something, seriously. i have never seen some one swing and miss so much on absolute cookies. hell put me in there i can take that 85 mph "heater" from todd jones and hit a line drive back up the middle. im sick of the same old excuses with this guy at the plate, its just brutal
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) signed deal for 2007 season worth $1M on 1/25/07- + he receives a $750K salary on 2007- + the deal includes a team option for 2008 worth $3.5M or a $250K buyout- + the value of the option rises up to $6M and the value of the buyout of up to $1.25M if he has 600PA in 2007- + value of the option rises by another $250K if he is named Comeback Player of the Year I don't see anything that would make the $6M option guaranteed. If he has 600 PA this year the guaranteed money rises from $1M to $2M and the price to keep him around for another season goes from $3.5M to $6M. thats a win-win situation for the sox as far as his contract is concerned, they are paying him near league minimum this season hard to beat that
  15. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 08:55 AM) Bad at the plate. Made some good plays in the outfield, but looked lazy out there. alright thanks so similar to much of what he was doing last year solid D and below average offense
  16. didnt see much of the game yesterday but how did BA look? i saw he was 1-4 on the night
  17. I mentioned in a thread the other day that both sisco and thornton scare me a whole lot and logan well hes boone logan not much more you can say. I really think that sisco and thornton are near spitting images of one another. Both have control problems and both only have one quality pitch, a fastball. I know thornton had a nice year last year but I've said from the start of this year that if he turns into a neal cotts-suck fest this year then it really doesnt matter how good he was last year, we need a shutdown guy from the left side in that bullpen otherwise mac-daddy is going to get really overworked. anybody else concerned about these guys or is it just me?
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 11:14 AM) Chris Young is doing as badly as Erstad this year, and he plays in the NL West, in Arizona. BTW, Anderson is likely to start tonight. yea good point hey arizona, hows that chris young thing working out for you so far? thanks for javy
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) You don't build it the day after you blew a 2 run lead with 2 outs in the 9th inning basically due to the overuse of your bullpen. If Thornton was available tonight, as he showed he was, he needs to start that inning. thorton isnt very good in case no ones noticed he had a good year last year but the guy has one pitch, fastball actually hes very similar to sisco...wild, one pitch pitcher, hes going to have problems with good fastball hitting teams if anything i would have had mac in there from the start of the inning and not bothered with either of thorton or sisco
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) At least we have a lead after one of the worst managed innings in history. i see everyones hating on ozzie but what exactly would you have done differently? i know sisco sucks but they are trying to build this kids confidence and see what he can do late in ballgames. maybe they found their answer tonight
  21. oh man time to bring in the big guns to face ross gload
  22. i think its funny that in 20 at bats this season the only hit mac has given up to a righty is sammy sosa
