Guess Trade Values of Sox Starters
JUSTgottaBELIEVE replied to JUSTgottaBELIEVE's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Garrett threw 54.1 innings a few seasons ago so not too different really. I think everyone imposing a ~100 inning limit on Garrett this season is in for a surprise, assuming he stays healthy. Been saying it for awhile. Wouldn’t shock me if he throws 150 innings. And what if other teams aren’t concerned about a limit this year either? Very well could be the top starter available on the trade market in 6 weeks. -

Good point. In Chris’ first season as a starter he threw 192 innings. His prior single season high was 71. I bet Soxtalk posters were imposing an innings limit on him too going into the 2012 season. -

Crochet is at 63.2 IP. He’s averaging over 5 innings per start. Assuming ~5 innings per start, he’s at 100 innings in the year after 7 more starts. That’s basically the second week in July. Are the Sox going to completely shut him down for the last 2.5 months of the season? I haven’t heard them say anything like this. -

Has he not been stronger of late? I’m just stating the facts. I never said it would continue the rest of the season. It might, it might not. Posters here have imposed an innings limit for Crochet this season of anywhere from 50-110 innings. Where are they getting this information because I haven’t seen anything reported by the team or Crochet about that. Regardless, they keep sayin it ? -

It’s a calculated risk. Pay less of a premium for a guy like crochet because the risk is there or pay a premium for a guy like Luzardo who isn’t even as good imo. I don’t think that’s an easy decision for a GM. -

I’m not absurdly confident but I’m also not absurdly negative. There’s a difference. -

You made a definitive statement that he’s absolutely going to wear down. You don’t know that, I don’t know that. Everyone has been speaking in absolutes about his innings limit, durability, etc since he was announced as the opening day starter. He’s already proven most wrong and yet there will continue to be doubters until there aren’t ?♂️ -

Guess Trade Values of Sox Starters

Season is 35% complete and he pitched better in May than the first 5 weeks of the season. Everyone is waiting for him to wear down but I see no signs of it. If anything, he’s getting STRONGER ? -

With Crochet, I think we need to see how the next month goes. If he pitches in June like he did in May, I think he will have a ton of value at the deadline because it shows his performance is not slowing even as innings accumulate. I’d rather have Crochet than Cease starting game 1 of the playoffs if they started tomorrow. -

Why wouldn’t anyone be interested in Crochet at the deadline? I go back and forth on this but the guy is getting stronger as the season progresses. I see no reason to severely limit him if that’s the case. He could easily pitch 130-140 innings this season. Would make for one hell of an opener for a playoff team in October. -

With the exception of Soroka, I’d say this initial post from early April is tracking quite well! Should be interesting to see what happens over the next 6-8 weeks as the calendar flips to June this weekend. -
Clevinger to IL, Woodford coming up, Peralta DFA Part II
JUSTgottaBELIEVE replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Royals spent serious money last offseason and just gave Witt close to $300M. I wouldn’t put them in the same category as Jerry especially right now as Jerry looks to trim payroll as they prepare to sell in the near future. -

Cool. They’d win 55 games instead of 45. Who cares. -

It’s putting the acquisitions in context. I’m not going to get upset about signing half a dozen guys that cost less than one Yoan Moncada and pretend like I expected them to be anything more than marginal mlb players. -

Thorpe has nothing left to prove in AA. I wouldn’t mind if they called him up to see if he’s a building block for the next 5+ years. He turns 24 in October so I don’t think they’d be rushing him given his minor league track record too. -

Combined still less than what they’re paying Moncada this season -
Nearly 9 strikeouts per 9 IP, 2.4 walks per 9 IP, 1.06 WHIP all look good to me. 2.3 bWAR, 0.9 fWAR also nice ~25% of the way into the season.

We don’t talk about the Graveman trade enough. Absolute highway robbery on that one.

This might apply more to Kopech than Fedde but Jorge López is a classic case of a late stage breakout. Basically had a worse track record than Fedde prior to 2022. Pitched a good first half as a closer and returned Yennier Cano, Cade Povich, and the Orioles current #26 prospect at the trade deadline that year. Not bad for a guy with no track record!
-
Fedde has the 17th lowest ERA of qualified starting pitchers in MLB right now. And looking at the list of guys ahead of him, only Blanco is likely to be available at the trade deadline (Blanco was just busted for cheating so what’s his actual worth now).
-
Aaron Civale returned a top 100 mlb prospect at last year’s deadline so no I don’t think we’re too high on Fedde if he keeps this up for another 8-10 starts…
-
I’ve got Quero and Ramos ahead of both so yea back half of our top 10 is an accurate description. Time will tell on the value of Kopech and Fedde but Kopech will be a top 5 reliever available and Fedde will be a top 10 starter available and both of those tend to have a lot of value at the trade deadline.
-
Fedde + Kopech for Norby + Beavers + flier seems like a fair deal. Would add some depth to the back end of the Sox top 10 prospects.

I don't expect it to happen, but......

I’d take the over on 40 for sure. I’d set the line at 52.5 wins.
