What was his max and average EV in mlb? Yes, I know small sample size but I’m still curious. Don’t care if he can hit AAA pitching if he can’t hit mlb pitching
-
100% all those weak hits to the right side that just barely squirt through lol
-
Basallo barely had a cup of coffee in AA so he’s clearly riskier than the much more seasoned Ortiz. With that in mind, how about we make him the second piece in the Orioles trade package instead of Ortiz?
-
#3 or #4 depending on the list. Montgomery and Schultz are easily ahead of him and Quero/Ortiz is a toss up. But it doesn’t matter really because in another year he won’t be on any prospect list because he will have either aged out of the lists or he’ll be in the MLB. The Sox are 2+ years from being competitive again best case scenario. A prospect that turns 26 this season isn’t a great fit for their current situation. Maybe a team like Seattle or Cincinnati would be more interested in him.
-
Ortiz reminds me of a younger Jose Iglesias. Decent mlb player but limited upside. No thanks. Like other posters, I’d much rather take a swing at younger prospects even if the bust rate is potentially higher. That’s why the more I dive into it, the more I like what the New York teams have to offer. The Orioles prospects tend to be on the older side in general outside of a couple (“untouchable”) guys. Not as attractive to me.
-
Clearly, the Orioles wouldn’t be able to beat that since they aren’t trading any of their top 3 prospects per Sports Guy
-
Awesome. They line up very well especially if they’re willing to part with Gilbert and Jett as the headliners.
-
I like the idea a lot. Something like Baty, Gilbert, Jett, Vasil would be a great package and fill a bunch of needs within the next 12-18 months.
-
In his “mediocre” season in 2023, Cease had an fWAR that would have been the second highest on the Orioles pitching staff and just 0.1 less than the Orioles leader Bradish. If Bradish is a TOR guy so is Cease.
-
I’m tired of moving first baseman types to the outfield. Please no. Hopefully Getz agrees with me.
-
Exactly why it’s pointless to discuss the Orioles as a destination for Cease. I don’t see it happening. I think the Yankees and Red Sox line up much better with the White Sox than the Orioles.
-
I agree. I’m not thrilled by the thought of Mayo as the headliner and only significant piece. I really hope the Yankees miss out on Snell because they line up very well with the Sox in many ways.
-
Oh my bad Sports guy, guess I had you confused with the other Orioles fan Snowy demon
-
And yet Cease’s 2024 fWAR projection is tied for the highest of any Orioles pitcher. Since you already have a good pitching staff according to you, I guess that’s pretty good?

To each their own

Funny

Yea, I’m just saying there’s nothing comparable to winning the ship. I’ve been a fan of a perennial contender for a long time but if they didn’t win two rings during that time the last three decades of being a “contender” every year would have been nothing but frustrating.
-
Draftkings has the Orioles with the second best odds to win their division and fourth best odds to win the pennant. We know they can hit but surely they would at least be the division favorite if bettors were as sold on their pitching as our Orioles’ friends here.
-
25th?!? Ouch. That’s certainly not a contender’s rotation but whatever they got DL Hall and some other random dudes do they’re good lol
-
And I can tell you as both a Packers fan (team that has contended almost every year for the past three decades) and a Sox fan (team that rarely contends), nothing compares to the 2005 World Series championship season. I wouldn’t trade that for the entire post-SB Rodgers era where they made the playoffs 9 years including 4 NFC championship games. It’s hard to explain unless you’ve experienced it.
-
It won’t matter if Cease has a dominant first half. Look at what Luis Castillo fetched at the 2022 trade deadline.
-
-
So simple!! Lol, geez. I’m done with this discussion because it’s going nowhere. Through their numerous posts, they’ve conceded that trading for a starter like Cease makes perfect sense for their situation and yet they only want to trade away the guys that look like busts or have limited ceilings. GTFO
-
Actually, I prefer the Astros model of trading for a TOR starter like Verlander once the team is ready to contend. But maybe that’s just me. Didn’t realize there was only one way to build a roster and win a title, especially the way that you described which has basically never worked.

I really like the Jones/Domínguez, Hampton, Lombard package proposed earlier if that is indeed an option. Seems reasonable for both sides imo.
