  1. I’m sure he’s been asking for years but I highly doubt it would have worked out so well for Garrett if he started out as a SP in 2020 after he was drafted.
  2. Are you saying that the Sox didn’t make the decision to turn him into a starting pitcher this season? I’m really not following your logic at all because it doesn’t make sense.
  3. That’s peanuts compared to entering free agency a minimum two years sooner (at age 27!) than he would have with just about any other team. In fact, it’s possible if they worked him as a starter in the minors that he would have undergone TJS before even receiving an MLB promotion. As a result, his mlb service time wouldn’t have started until “maybe” last season but more likely this season. That’s a massive difference compared to being just two years away from free agency now. Make no mistake about it, the Sox did Garrett a HUGE favor with how they handled his early years as a pro.
  4. Actually, leaving it up to the Sox gets him to free agency at age 27 with TJS in the rear view and very little wear and tear on his arm. He should be thanking the Sox lol
  5. His way would be a 9 figure extension already in hand so not really
  6. My point is, if he was so concerned about risking injury to end the season, why hasn’t he said my ArM hUrTs already?
  7. I guess but for a guy that’s 2 years away from free agency pitching well in the postseason sure would look good on the resume and build a better case for the extension he so desires don’t ya think? I understand there is injury risk but there was injury risk to throwing another 30 innings in August and September with the Sox too so 🤷‍♂️
  8. So essentially hold out in-season while under contract? When has this ever happened?
  9. He’s going to end up pitching ~30 innings in August/September for the Sox. A team like the dodgers easily could have IL’d him for most of these two months to save those innings for October. It’s not like they needed him for anything other than postseason baseball. Instead, they are trotting out 3 starting pitchers no better than Jonathan Cannon as they head into the postseason.
  10. Great. What leverage does he have again to dictate how the team utilizes him? They could throw him back in the bullpen against his will and what’s he going to do?
  11. Beni going to end the season with the highest OPS of Sox regulars? Would be funny considering his start
  12. And that’s where a savvy team like the Dodgers could have managed his workload in August/September so that he’d be fresh for the postseason. Easily could have put him on the IL for several weeks of the regular season to rest him up for the postseason and still ended up with the same number of innings pitched in 2024 as he will end up with the Sox.
  13. Define long term. A team like the Orioles wouldn’t be interested in extending him beyond 2026. What leverage would Crochet have if the Orioles said you’re pitching this postseason but they didn’t extend him? As far as I know, he has no leverage within his current contract to make such a demand.
  14. The guy that had a 690 OPS in A+ ball? I know SSS, which seems to excuse lack of success for any non-Sox player.
  15. And what leverage did Crochet actually have within his current contract terms?
  16. I mean, you wrote these guys off months ago. Holliday and Mayo are younger but there’s no denying they’ve been overmatched at the mlb level thus far. Not exactly what a team with World Series aspirations right now wants to see. In fact, their window might already be closed and they don’t know it yet because that starting rotation looks like an absolute dumpster fire next season if they can’t count on Grayson to be healthy. I don’t know where they’re going to get the pitching without spending serious money because they have no arms in the minors and they’ve already expended many of their bullets on the excess prospect position player front.
  17. If used properly, Crochet could still be a highly effective opener in the playoffs or a nasty two inning lefty reliever ala Andrew Miller years ago. I don’t agree with the idea that he wouldn’t have helped a playoff team next month.
  18. I’m saying the Orioles already traded for Eflin when they were still looking for an arm in late July. They decided to go the “cheap” route with Rogers rather than upping the ante a little further for Crochet. And trading for Crochet isn’t just about this season alone, even though he’d be a lot more helpful to the Orioles than Rogers next month in the playoffs. It’s also about the next two seasons when they lose their ace and most reliable SP Corbin Burnes this offseason leaving another gaping hole to fill in the rotation. Lastly, yes, it’s SSS but Mayo has a -6 wRC+ and -0.5 fWAR with a 47.5% k rate so far in mlb. That’s hard to do. The shine is certainly wearing off on several of these highly touted Orioles prospects including Jackson Holliday as well.
  19. Judging by the players they gave up Rogers was the bigger move for them than Eflin. Let’s not try to sugarcoat it now.
  20. It’s Rogers vs Crochet because the Orioles always needed TWO starters and they chose Rogers as their final big deadline move rather than upping the prospect ante from Norby to Mayo for Crochet. I just realized the Orioles optioned Rogers to AAA a couple weeks ago wow
  21. And his “good” games were still a bunch of singles. I thought the Orioles hitting gurus were going to unlock his big power? He has exactly 1 home run in 92 at bats with the Orioles.
  22. Exactly. For everyone saying how much of a sellers market it was it sure doesn’t seem like many impact players were moved by anyone.
  23. Except Cowser can actually play a defensive position well above average. Mayo is a DH that isn’t hitting. And you really think they’re going to do anything in the postseason trotting out Eflin and Rogers as their #2 and #3 playoff starters? lol
  24. Speaking of trade deadline moves, Orioles fans laughed at the idea of Mayo + for Crochet. After watching Mayo’s horrific start to mlb, bet they’re wishing they had a mulligan on that one…
  25. And by the way, I thought the great Orioles organization had fixed Eloy? He has a 617 OPS with them, which is worse than he had with the Sox this season.
