In a way I admire any Sox fans right now who can find a way to keep a positive perspective. I admit that I was really trying this morning. I can't do it, this is all just bad bad bad. For now and in the future. As of today I cant find it in me to cheer for them because I dont want this failure to ultimately be vindicated. Failing with Manny in this way is not okay with me and never will be. Even if it winds up being a shit show in San Diego with Manny it doesnt exclude Hahn and company from looking for a discount with all of these things considered at this point in the rebuild. And for the record, I am not going to try to bring down anyone that is okay with whats gone on the past 24 hours. I am just trying to get myself through this with talking it out and hoping that works.

I can honestly say that I truly don't believe they have learned anything from this. That is why its so disappointing. The truth about who they are and what they are capable of, or the lack thereof, was revealed in this. They aren't going to approach anything different then they ever did before.
-
But they believe they gave a better offer to Machado. It clearly wasnt close to the Pad's offer but thats what they believe and think their fan base will believe.
-
They already stated they could not go to $300 mil. They low balled their top priority. They aren't going to now pivot to someone even more expensive who wasnt even their top choice. Their actions with how they dealt with Manny speak volumes for now and years to come. This is a bad time to be a Sox fan.
-
They aren't planning to go for Harper at this point and they have made that very clear. The most they will try to do here with Harper is make it look as if they have a seat at the table but they are so out of touch with the public perception of them its all laughable.
-
If the MM market was as anticipated at the start of the off season the Sox would have never have been in the discussions. They wouldnt have "been at the table". They only were because the market fell back to them. Still couldn't seal the deal. Their max was 250 and they were confident? LOL
-
Yep, feel the same this morning. F*** them.

So Hahn ultimately could have countered with a match of something similar but nah, too much. We have a team to build right? So now let’s settle to adding mediocre talent hoping for career years out of them for the next five years. While the majority of our prospects either get hurt or under perform. Sorry guys I’m going to have to leave for a while. It’s just not fun or worth my energy any more.

Yeah the 30 mil will be spent on a few trash players as a few posters here have already demonstrated they done with the extra 50 mil they wouldnt guarantee Manny.

Updated with $/WAR: Every Hahn MLB Free Agent Signing since 2012/2013

Hahn will not be fired, that is a guarantee. I am sure that Preller had to convince ownership that this move made sense and was worth it to the franchise. That is part of the GM's job. They have to make the case to get every last bit that they can out of the owner to seal the deal. Hahn couldn't do this. He should be fired but wont be and we all know it. -

The off season that SHOULD get him fired though would be this one. This is one of the most epic failures that I have ever witnessed. Again, not because they ultimately didnt get Manny but with how they didnt get Manny. -
Who is available in 2020? Looking ahead to the future

Yeah, this was about one of the only things that could have disenfranchised the diehards like us to where we cant forgive them. We have been through a lot of shit and we are remarkably patient (maybe not on soxtalk in our posts but as a fan) but this one with all things considered? They showed their asses to us this time and there will be some that do not continue as diehards any longer. -
Its not happening. The Sox aren't going to legitimately be in on this. They just showed us today where they are at when it comes to a seat at the table. They plan on ordering from the discount menu and Harper isnt about that either.

Not sure whats next for me and my Sox fandom. It really isn't about not having Manny on the team as that would have been just an incremental improvement. It IS ALL about the context of this particular failure and they really hammered the point home this time. They will never be capable of building a winning team with Jerry and the current FO. Because of ownership's financial restrictions and from the overall mismanagement by the GM we are totally screwed as fans. I wouldn't begrudge any fan that would jump ship from this organization and follow another team. -
Honestly I feel really betrayed by this organization. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they were serious about spending with the big boys. If they ever where going to be in position to do it it would have been now. At a time where they never needing that centerpiece to build around more than right now. It all lined up. But they were only in it because it was a discounted rate being passed around for the past three months otherwise they wouldn’t have even been mentioned.

Well damn.

With Hector there really isn’t anything in it for him to favor the Sox in this. If he only wanted notoriety he could have played it differently and said his source was feeding him info that covered more teams being heavily involved. He hasn’t done that, he has been consistent for a long time that Manny is going to ultimately come to the Sox.
-
I don’t recall...anyone...mentioning that. ?
-
True but it’s still a possibility. The Sox are going to pull out all the stops and go down swinging as Hahn said before. They might be trying everything.
-
Congratulations on your admission. Unlike all of us here, who I’m sure have not once admitted over the past few years that they have indeed sucked. You are advanced in your whitesox observations.
-
You are miserable. You should have some hope or good reason to devote all that time and energy to your team. You clearly don’t.
-
Great. Why are you here?
-
If things work out in this rebuild you better not be on board all of sudden.

Madrigal is at least in the org let’s not pretend it’s the same as a FA
