  1. I wouldn’t worry about him being a role model or influence on our young Latin talent. Those guys are going to be who they are regardless of Manny’s influence m. I truly believe his personality quirks have been way overblown. There are bad dudes somewhere within every lineup, they don’t ruin the team dynamic . Especially when they are Uber talented. When it’s a bad team everyone focuses on the personality flaws of each guy but it doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the cause of the team failure .
  2. You know, I’m sure Machado’s personality probably rubs some the wrong way. He can be a jerk while playing the game. He is very arrogant. He’s a narcissist. But damnit he has more talent than the Sox have seen since probably the big Hurt?
  3. Can you guys stop calling each other geniuses and Einstein’s? Actually yeah just stop. If you don’t you will take a break for a bit here.
  4. They aren’t actually meeting with him though. There haven’t been much credibility from any of the proclaimed insiders this off season. And even IF the Cubs were checking in on him it would be because they are sniffing around for a discount which the players union would be absolutely livid if Harper even entertained that, especially in this markets current climate.
  5. Fathom the Cubs have been very transparent under Theo and company with what their overall plan is. They have made it really clear Harper is not in the cards for them. If they can somehow dump a bunch of contracts that may change, and I think they have left the door open for that particular circumstance but they seem to see that that is extremely unlikely. They know they aren’t getting any interest at all for Heyward. You can stop worrying about the boogie man cubs.
  6. Why cant I comprehend what buster is trying to say here? A bigger move than Harper? Or just in general might signal they are serious about making big moves?
  7. Yeah, that video showed absolutely nothing. I am not sure why it was ever a thing. People are grasping at straws for any shred of evidence or they just want to draw attention to themselves by posting stuff like that. Its a very frustrating time to be a Sox fan.
  8. The GM’s view is the only view that matters in the context of a ML team. The markets are different but the principle stays the same. 4 mil needs to be spent responsibly. Can teams recover easily from a 4 mil mistake? Yeah, it shouldn’t be much of a hit on the overall budget comittment but I will never be willing to think that Hahn just signed Jay and traded for Alonzo so casually that because “oh it’s not significant money in the grand scheme of things”.
  9. Do you see how nasty arbitration gets? Responsible FO’s fight tooth and nail to even pay someone $500k less. There are varying factors that go into in the grand scheme of things but nonetheless Gm’s have to count pennies and be responsible. They don’t approach their budget as 4 mil being nothing. Anyways, we will just disagree on this.
  10. There must have been an ownership change that I wasn’t aware of. I know it’s not our money so why should we care but 4 mil is still a lot of money, even in the eyes of millionaires. Like fathom said though, with Jay it would not be as big of a deal because we still could potentially use him.
  11. And Jay was 4 mil. It was definitely not an investment to just glance over. Especially not from a team that is as financially conscious as the Sox are.
  12. Thanks for clearing that up... So what you meant to say was Harper, in your opinion, is the far more superior offensive player.
  13. I know you aren't a fan of defensive metrics but have you at least watched the two players play defense? Highlights of them playing defense? In think we can certainly find Machados really valuable on this team.
  14. That's if you ignore every other factor except for offense. So we would obviously ignore what the two bring to our defense and the positional needs within our organization. Plus any other intangibles that we think one might bring over the other as being more of a clubhouse fit.
  15. We have discussed this option before but its hard to get past the Alonzo and Jay signings then. If Harper is their guy wtf was Hahn thinking bringing in Manny's buddies?
  16. Well for the metrics guys there is overwhelming evidence that points to Sox being bad. Projected WAR tells us this team even with a manny will not be good. I personally don’t buy too much into projecting WAR on guys but that’s just me.
  17. I really dont think we need to even discuss Hektors message and tweet. The dude is a nobody disputing the Athletic's report.
  18. It could but the spending curve is going to move to the right as time goes on. What appears to be a huge salary now may become a little more normal when we cross that road (especially after these guys strike). Plus I would assume that there will be mutual options around 4 years with these guys anyways. If at that time you just cant afford both then you can make a decision then.
  19. Nick Wright saying there could be another shocker of a move coming tonight.
  20. Much of the talent surrounding them will be under control for the next 5-6 years though. Costs shouldn't be too high for those players. That makes it somewhat feasible to have two of those guys, especially considering past four years from now when that becomes far more normal to have anyways. I dont know, I am not saying its likely, it probably isnt feasible but I dont think its as crazy as you guys are suggesting.
  21. I have never been more annoyed with people stating they have a source in my entire life.
