Thome singled to second? We'll take it.
-
There went that 3-0 lead. we better get to grinding.
-
Why did I think Erstad and Uribe wouldn't be able to pick up that run? Hey, at least neither one spiked themselves.
-
QUOTE(briguy27 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 05:02 PM) He's looks sharp to me? He does? 4 innings, 5 hits, 2 walks, 1 strikeout. I mean, that sure isn't awful, but doesn't appear to be sharp...Javy can usually K 1 an inning...But like I said, I'm not watching it, just going by stats.
-
Only keeping up with it on Yahoo GameChannel, but Javy doesn't appear sharp today. Give us 6 and turn it over to our studly bullpen.
-
Javy has been tremendous this year.
-
I'd like em both there. Then figure out who plays left (Fields, owens, anderson, pods, steve lyons, etc, etc), get Crede healthy, pickup Hu/Furcal/Lillebridge/Arias/someone/anyone to take Uribe's place at SS,
-
And the really good news is we get to avoid the sweep against Dan Haren tomorrow. If this kid tonight can nail us down, I can't imagine what Haren will do.
-
This team needs total rebuilding. Just tinkering with the edges...adding a bullpen arm and a corner outfielder won't cut it. Most of the guys we have are either just not very good, old, or injury prone, and others look washed up. Fields, Wasserman, a couple of our starting pitchers, Jenks, and Paulie give some hope, but every team in baseball has 6 or 7 good players. The great teams have 15 good players. We have 15 duds.
-
Good things? Fields has his average up to .257 Wasserman can get people out Mark pitched solid tonight The bad? Erstad has no business being anything other than a bench player Richar is hitting .162 Pods is ... well Pods The 2007 Chicago White Sox

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 09:39 PM) Hurt again? Not sure. Just didn't see him in the lineup. Paulie is DH. Grinderstand is at 1st.

QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) Sox win tonight in part because of Jim Thome's 491st home run. Gonna be tough. Thome is out of the lineup tonight.
-
Geeze. 2 Leadoff runners get on and ... well you know the rest.
-
3 harmless fly outs to begin this game.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) No Erstad period please... To be honest, I'd see Andy Gonzalez get a roster spot over Erstad, and I am no fan of Gonzalez. Neither should be on a team serious about competing for a playoff spot.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) It sounds like you're talking about the Royals or something. The Sox still have a very talented core of players. The projected rotation of Mark, Jon, Javy, Danks, and Contreras is solid. Jenks has become a dominant closer. The middle of the lineup (Paulie, Thome, and an extended Dye) is solid. AJ is a decent veteran catcher. And it looks like Fields and Richar are both ready to be every-day starters. Bringing in two veteran setup men, picking up the option on Uribe's contract, extending Dye, platooning Sweeney with Owens in CF, and bringing in a halfway decent veteran LF would make them good enough to contend next year, IMO. So basically change nothing except add middle relief help. We tried this already...and it gave us 2007.

One way to prevent a drug user from continuing to do drugs is to remove all drugs from his possession. We must remove Erstad from Ozzie's possession.

27 pages and not one mention of Air Supply.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) A few thoughts: *Sisco, along with Masset or Aardsma [both of whom are out of options] could very well be part of a larger deal that help the sox net a solid contributor--either a vet for the bullpen or a position player prospect. No reason we need a vet in the pen. The pen is doing better lately + this team isn't that good. We need more than some setup guy to take this team to the next level. We need a plethora of new talent.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) Its a pretty bold move to say he has no chance, but Floyd does. Haeger has had just as much, if not more success in the minors than Floyd and I look at Tim Wakefield when I say be patient with Haeger. Charlie hasn't been throwing the knuckler that long. Wakefield started out great for Pittsburgh but the next season was awful in Pittsburgh and the minor leagues, the following season struggled at AAA, got released, but has been a pretty decent pitcher for the past 13 seasons in Boston. I would say there is a far better chance of Haeger being an average pitcher than there is of Floyd matching Wakefield's career. Haeger and Floyd have pitched about the exact same number of AAA innings this year...Haeger has given up more hits, more runs, more walks, more homers, has a higher WHIP, far higher era, 9 more losses, and a grand total of 2 more strikeouts. and as far as this quote... I would say there is a far better chance of Haeger being an average pitcher than there is of Floyd matching Wakefield's career. is mixing up multiple arguments. Tim Wakefield is the benchmark for Haeger...I guess Tim Seaver is the benchmark for Floyd then. But you are right, there is a better chance of Haeger being average because I doubt Floyd ever sniffs 160+ career wins. However, that doesn't mean Haeger will do crap either. Actually, I bet Floyd wins more career major league games than Haeger...Ill say Floyd wins 18 career games and Haeger wins 8...they both stink.
-
Ozzie isn't doing a great job managing, but this team isn't that good either. It's a matched set. Some of the clods we have on this team are laughable. We won't compete next year, not without some serious upgrades in SEVERAL positions.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) Haegar is just...not good. After the initial appeal of the knuckle is gone, he is a below average pitcher who gets slapped around at all levels. NOT the answer for the starting rotation. Not only that, but what also bothers me about the knuckler is the extra passed balls, extra wild pitches...it will be MUCH easier to steal on, the ball is a wildcard pitch all the way around. I give Haeger props for going to this pitch to try to get himself into the bigs because his conventional stuff isn't good enough, but at best he can be a relief guy...I say use him in long relief, carry an extra pitcher, and if it looks like he 'has the knuckler' working and he's not throwing every 3rd pitch to the backstop then let him pitch in relief. Charlie Haeger in the rotation is hilarious to think about. Outside of Mark, Javy and Garland the final 2 spots should be considered in this order -Danks -Count -Broadway -Floyd -Gio -Egbert -Santos -Haeger

Speechless. Jeff Weaver? -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) For as much as Gavin not deserving the fifth spot, either does Haeger. I agree totally. These folks thinking Haeger is the answer are funny.

This performance is slowly becomming the low point of the season. Having Jake Westbrook or Mike Musina roll you up is a bit tough to swallow, but they are actual major league pitchers, who have (or had) good stuff. Jeff Weaver is one of the worst starting pitchers on earth. Our offense should be embarassed. I betcha next time out Weaver doesn't last 4 innings (unless he draws the Sox).
