  1. This is comical. When Jeff Weaver is making your team look this bad then you know you have problems. Pathetic...this is insanely pathetic. JEFF WEAVER?????
  2. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) Shutout so far by the hapless 3-10, 6.07 ERA Jeff Freakin' Weaver... GMAFB. Getting shutout by this stiff would be just perfect for this debacle of a season.
  3. Terrific inning...we had runners at 2nd and 3rd with less than 2 outs against the only pitcher certifiably worse than Jose Contreras and we get nothing in. Why am I still watching this laborious fiasco?
  4. Thome needed that...dude has been terrible lately. Maybe Gas-Can Weaver can fire him up.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) Got back in town today, just in time to see Danks continue to struggle. I hadn't noticed this in a few weeks, but McCarthy's ERA is now well below that of Danks. Well, Dank is 2 years younger and had ZERO ml exp until this year. I think both have been about the same this year, although Danks did go through a recent slump (until his last start) while Brandon has begun to put things together. I'm still fine with that trade, because I like Danks so much. Let's see how he handles the rest of the year.
  6. The problem with letting JD walk is we have NO ONE, absolutely NO ONE, ready to take his place. I think back 2 years ago the idea was Ryan Sweeney would take over in RF by no later than '08, but right now Ryan doesn't appear ready to do that without a severe dropoff of production from Dye. Sweeney's power numbers have improved somewhat, he is running well and I still consider him the Sox best position prospect, but right now I see Sweeney as starting next year in AAA barring serious growth between now and next March. To that end, I'd like to reup Dye for a year with an option, and also an incentive laden contract. If Dye can produce big numbers, then he should get paid for it, but if he is slowing down or oft-injured I'd like to save money on him.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) Which is wise. As much as I never have cared for Pods, unless the Cubs were offering something you just couldn't turn down, if KW traded him for garbage just to save some cash, which the Sox could benefit from in 2008, and he somehow helped the Cubs win, Houston, we have a problem. I am not such an anti-Podser like some in here. When healthy the guy is productive and trading him for garbage (see Mack trade) would have been just trading him for no reason. If we trade Pods, we get something that can help this franchise. Just like Rob Mackowiak, Pods has some value...My personal goal would be to work Pods into a platoon situation...Pods is pretty good against righties and a platoon would keep tread off his tires. Darrin Erstad is the player, that despite his good qualities with his grinderness, I find to be the most useless.
  8. lineup cf-owens 3-Fields dh-thome 1-pk c-AJ rf-Dye lf-Pods ss-uribe 2-cintron
  9. God love Darrin Erstad...he seems to be a good guy and he DOES PLAY the game the right way, but kid is nothing more than a "role playing reserve, grinding veteran presence to show the more talented how to run out a grounder.
  10. Punch and Judy Hitters Im telling you...Pods, Richar, and Owens. Then our boppers, Fields and Thome can't do crap. At least Batista didn't look like Cy Young that inning. Keepum right there Gav.
  11. I dont care what Richar's average is...kid looks like he has 'the idea' how to play the game. I like everythign I've seen from him. Good job kid getting the BB.
  12. Floyd has settled down. ALthough the way Batista is pitching we are already in a big hole. Maybe some of our punch and judys can get something going.
  13. Maybe it's just me, but Batista right now is throwing some absolutely nasty stuff. Unless he folds, we may be in trouble.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) Well Podsedink is considered somewhat talented and does have another fairly affordable season of arbitration left so I guess he should have some sort of value if you really stretch his worth to the point of lunacy. Kenny is apparently looking for "a decent pitching or infield prospect" according to Levine. Haha...I am satisfied with the infield or p prospect. We could really use a SS. I don't think we have a single SS in our entire system of any real worth. It's likely our most baron position.
  15. OK, so Murton probably isn't an option here. In the end, does anyone think we'd bring in a viable major league player for Pods? We got low A-ball players (one old) for Mack and Gooch. I fully expect to bring in something similiar there. These ideas of getting Murton or Cedeno are ridiculous in light of the fact we didn't get jackcrap for the other guys and Pods isn't exactly the greatest player who ever laced them up.
  16. Why does Murton have to clear waivers? The Cubs didn't put him on waivers...the Sox put Pods there and by rule the Cubs can now acquire Pods since no one else claimed him. I never heard that the player traded for the waived player also has to clear waivers.
  17. If we get anyone above A ball that is less than 25 years old I will consider it a successful move. Williams got nothing but low minors fodder for Mack and Gooch and Pods is certainly no better than Gooch, and it's debateble if he's better than Mack.
  18. Im ready for the Owens/Fields in the 1/2 hole to end....0-8 with 6 Ks is abysmal.
  19. Wow...our pen has come around...matters not when the opps has a 7 spot after 4...nice work Ryan, the pen is at least keeping the Indians right there, but this hybrid lineup we have (half major league, half AAA) probaby wont be able to crank out 3 runs in 2 innings.
  20. Owens and Fields leading off are 0-8 with 6 strikeouts. Utterly pathetic.
  21. Wasserman has done a damn good job since being called up. Nice work from this guy. Solid, solid guy.
  22. Yes....no one could manage this team to the playoffs. Jerry Owens? Andy Gonzalez? Erstad? Terraro? Cintron? a couple rooks playing the infield? A bullpen that until recently has been a mess? Several players (Paulie, Dye) who had atrocious slumps earlier in the season? Reliance on aging injury proned vets? Take away the starting rotation and this is not a very good team. I like some of the pieces, but we are relying on some very marginal talent at this point. Our GOOD talent...are basically bangers who if they aren't hitting homers aren't doing s*** for us anyway...and of course that very nice rotation.
  23. QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) yea seeing fields out there everyday makes me appreciate crede that much more not saying that fields has been horrible but right now he is no joe, particularly in the field Crede is clearly a better player at this point than Fields...but this game tonight is something we haven't seen much of from Josh. Kid doesn't look like he has a clue tonight. Other nights, he looks great...he's a rook, it'll happen. But yea, would like to have joe in there...lets not forget to pass some blame to Mark for tossing up meatballs tonight and the top 5 hitters tonight are 0-12, that's not going to get it done. I'd like to see Thome actually do something again, he's been terrible since early in the season.
