Still a long haul, but if we win tonight we are 9.5 games out of first. Not long ago we were 15.5 games out of first. If nothing else, that has to be fueling our team with serious energy. Just remember, we have some champions on this team, guys who know how to WIN. Where I worry are the support/role players, the 4th and 5th starters and the bullpen. I have no doubt AJP, Mark, Paulie, JD, and Big Bobby will bring the terror over the last couple months. it won't be enough unless Thome goes on a tear, Owens/Pods/Grinderstad can wreak havoc on the bases, MacDougal/Wasserman/Logan/Buckvick/Thornton can stone other offense, and Floyd/Jose and Danks give us quality startts.

watch Fields play...He just looks like a pure 3rd baseman to me...a really good quick first step, good side to side movement, great movement when charging in, and what appear to be very good instincts. He has also shown the propensity to improve greatly from year to year. Because he did it in the minors, I fully expect him to be a far superior player next year than this year, and the year after that he'll be even better. Fields is a terrific athlete with tremendous work ethic and the natural skill to be a terrific third basemen. He has all the natural skill you want in a third basemen and all he needs is experience. I really have to question anyone who think this kid is a bad defensive player. He's going to make some errors initially, but I see not only an average fielder potentially, but a well above average fielder.

In this day and age, it is very unlikely what with all the relief specialists taking opportunities away from starters. I think the new benchmark for pitchers may become 250. Can Buehrle get that? Maybe...depends. I definately like him for 200.

Sox are 10.5 games out of first. I mean, it's not going to happen, but ...

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) Career is going downhill? I want more of those guys -- you know, guys putting up .500 OBPs. I'll take those types all day. Clubhouse cancer? Hmm -- didn't seem that way with all of his teammates coming out and giving him the congrats on tying the record last night. I think the media overblows that a helluva lot. Then why in a recent poll of major league players he was ranked #1 as the biggest jerk, even ahead of Jeff Kent, who is a notorious prick? Bonds will never play a day in Chicago. I hope the turd retires at the end of this year and becomes a motivational speaker for crack addicts. -

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) he won't, kw isn't dumb enough to sign that guy I agree. I hate this idea that we aren't in the business to have good citizens, but to win. Where in the hell does the rulebook say you can't win with guys like Konerko and Mark Buehrle? It is the high character guys with talent you want. I WANT to root for the Sox, because I like the players NOT just because I root for the uni. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) Kenny Williams' job is to put talent on the field, not put together a club of "good citizens". Then I suggest we go out and get Tom Seaver. He's talent. How many more years of usefulness does this asshole bonds have in him? -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) I can't stand Bonds but I'd learn to love him. Getting Barry and unloading Thome could make the team so much better. So where does Barry's recliner go in the clubhouse? I don't see how Bonds for Thome makes the Sox "so much better." The extra walks and/or steroid induced homers you would get would be negated by the crappy chemistry of the team. I will never learn to love a player with such a disgusting attitude and I hope he never plays a single day in Chicago. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) Could always dh Bonds and unload Thome for a hell of a package. Just throwing that out there. You would let go of Jim Thome, one of the best and classiest people out there for the games biggest prima donna? -

Geezus Juan...dude is playing for a contract and he is at .215 with no speed. Wonder if we can package him and Jose in the off-season. Surely, we could get a game program for the two of them. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 02:42 PM) This so far looks like a great trade from KW. i know people like Cunningham, and he might be great someday. But we have nothing in the minors for middle infield. Now if we can somehow matchup in the offseason for Hu from the Dodgers, our infield should be set for a long time. Ding ding. I didn't like giving up Cunningham and has now moved into BA's Top 100 prospects, but like you said we needed something in the MI and there is nothing on the farm (although I do like Getz, he doesn't look as dynamic as Richar). -

Gavin at 4IP, 4H, 0BB, 0R, 5Ks and a couple of those hits could have been outs. I didn't see this coming, but what a shot of confidence this will be for him...we need to get him a couple more runs.
