  1. I haven't been overly pleased with a few calls by the ump...pitches look good...sweet play by Richar.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) ozzie wanted to have his wet dream OF all together. Yea, and if we string all the balls they hit together we could get a fly ball to the warning track out of it.
  3. Any reason our hottest hitter, Dye, is out of this game? Just a scheduled day off or what? Seems to me we need to run him out there as well as he is swining the bat. This OF we have is certainly punch-and-judy stuff.
  4. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) I just noticed Casey has only hit 19 homers since 2004. Pretty pathetic for a first baseman. Yea, but he is the Designated Hitter today.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) Keep pitching in. Huge key in my view. I didn't see that much in his previous games. I see it today.
  6. Ok, who is this guy on the mound and what have they done with Gavin Floyd? Dude is looking damn sweet today.
  7. The last couple days have been fun...today is even fun. Sox won't be in post-season, but I like seeing them play better and Floyd (so far, fingers crossed) has looked like a bonafide big leaguer in his first two innings. Keep it up.
  8. Chalk up another steller outing by Javy...and kudos to big Bobby, AJP, Dye, Thome and the rest. Nice way to go into Sunday. Lets get the unfortunately, Javy or Mark can't pitch again tomorrow.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 11:47 AM) The funny thing is, this board is very critical of the White Sox offense when they appear to be swinging for the fences, but love Josh Fields. He is the epitome of that style of hitting. Josh Fields has laid down several well executed bunts this year, so I think he is more versatile than you make it sound. He is definately striking out at a high rate, but has a history of making great strides in his development. For most of his time until his 13 at bat hitless streak that he is now currently in, he was around .245-.250, credible for a player in his situation. I don't think Anderson is a complete dud and don't think Fields is heading to the Hall of Fame, but I get a sense there is more potential in the bat of Josh Fields. I say that knowing it possible I could be wrong. Still, I want to see how he performs over the last two months and with the team out of the race, I'd like Anderson to be called up and given a chance again, but he has to get his AAA average up, as a .255 AAA average gives no indication he will hit major league pitching this year. Then we can talk about this again.
  10. I am definately fine with JD coming back. If MacDougal, Boone, Thornton can have good years next year (w/ Jenks) then I think the potential is there for the pen to pick it up...that isn't even considering Wasserman, Day, Massett, and Aardsmas roles next year, as I expect all 4 of them to improve. I am glad we are seeing Richar now, but I really would like a big-time CF and a SS who can run that has better bat control. Outside of that, I see troubling signs with our rotation. Mark Buehrle is a hoss...no doubt. Javy seems to have turned the corner and I hope he keeps heading up, Garland is solid...but the other two, Contreras appears finished, and Danks is now going through a tough period. I actually have faith in Danks, because he has shown the ability in the past to improve, he is mentally tough, and has a lot of talent. Still, there are questions all over this team...that if answered in a positive fashion could put the Sox in contention next year. Unless we were to replace Dye of someone of comparable skill set (and that doesn't exist in our current minor leagues) not having Dye would probably mean we'd be in a rebuilding mode.
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 11:29 AM) Why is it that Brian Anderson and his 2006 stats of .225 BA and .290 OBP make him just a horrible player, but Josh Fields and his .236 BA and .298 OBP make him a future star, and reason enough to non tender Joe Crede? Who said we should non tender Crede and who said Anderson was a horrible player? My take is it that Fields is showing some power potential something that Anderson didn't show even though he was called a 5-tool player. And Anderson isn't a horrible player because he plays good defense and while he is still young and there is certainly a chance he could improve as a hitter, responding to being sent to AAA with a .255 average tells me the guy just isn't that good as a hitter or he is pouting about the move and isn't putting in the required work to get back to the majors.
  12. Finally, some of these guys were due for a promotion. Personally, I think it's time for both Eggs and Gio to move up to AAA. They have earned it.
  13. I'll agree that Erstad was destined to be the starter and that seems to be not quite fair, but a ball player would have gone down to AAA and kicked ass. Anderson has been mediocre at best playing at that level. So, while we get on Ozzie or KW or whomever for just handing the CF job to Erstad, the fact is Anderson hasn't made that decision look bad due to his ordinary play at a level below the ML level. I am not a scout and there are people who probably have more knowledge about the mechanics of hitting than I (although I do OK), but I don't like Anderson's long, slow, looping swing. And even though I am a very defensive minded person, I typically want my outfielders to be better than average offensive threats, which Anderson is not.
  14. Great thread. Wrigley field bathroom: "Talk about first class accamodations!!!!" Makes me miss going to games in Chicago. The last time I've seen the Sox in Chicago was the last 3 games ever at Comiskey (a nice sweep of the Mariners that weekend if I'm not mistaken). I've seen them a lot in Baltimore and if they ever play at Washington I'll be there.
  15. QUOTE(max power @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) or maybe his nagging injury was the cause of all his s***iness? Either way, I hope he is consistent. Thing is, we never DL'd him did we? I think Mac, Jenks, Logan, and Thornton are a decent foursome in the pen. I haven't seen enough of Wasserman or even Day to make an assessment, and Aardsma still has potential. I do want to add another RP in the off-season, but don't believe we need to go but so crazy with trades to fix that position (I'd rather see another OF and SS brought in)
  16. Pretty unvelievable and delusional attitude of Jose Contreras Contreras has been replaced by Gavin Floyd for at least one turn in the rotation, but made it clear that he won't stay a reliever for long. "Maybe for the remainder of the year I'll be in the bullpen, but I fully expect to start next year," Contreras said. "If they don't want me as a starter next year, I want to be out of here." He fully expects to start? And we fully expect you to get people out. You want out of here? Name one team that would relish the thought of your scrubby self starting for them. You're lucky you are still wearing a major league uniform.
  17. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) Maybe it has more to do with Anderson than Erstad? Why play Mackowiak in favor of Anderson in '06, allow Erstad to take Anderson's job in '07, and then let Anderson rot in the minors while Erstad sits on the DL for most of the season? I wouldn't put intense, irrational dislike of Anderson (or any player) past Ozzie, but it seems more plausible that Anderson might have a serious attitude problem or something. Anderon is striking out once every 4 at bats in AAA ball and is currently at .255. He would be on pace for about 150 strike outs at the AAA leve. I'd have to assume he'd K close to 200 times if given 600 Major League at bats. So, it may not be attitude at all. It may be just that Brian Anderson isn't a big league caliber hitter.
  18. Sure better than a loss. Team did show a little moxie...playing so bad, blow an 8-0 lead and still find a way to fend off the Bankees. Welcome back Mike MacDougal...looks like he got his head straight down in Charlotte.
  19. Compared to Erstad, Pods looks like a Sherman Tank.
  20. QUOTE(BamaDoc @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 10:34 AM) I have no problem with Floyd starting for August, if unsuccessful let Haeger start for September. If Floyd stinks (likely) then I say September starts should go to Broadway, Egbert, or Gio Gonzalez. Put the knuckler into the museum where it belongs.
  21. He didn't deserve to stay and I just don't like the knuckle-ball, unless you have a catcher who can actually catch it. With the knuckle-ball you get more inconsistency, more walks, more passed balls, more wild pitches, the other team getting extra bases and extra outs. When the pitch is 'working' it is very tough to hit, but it is a very high risk pitch. That being said, Floyd doesn't deserve to stay either, but at this point we have no one in AAA that shows much promise, although Broadway is still in play I think. He has moved up to AAA in decent time and seems to be improving. No, Lance will never be a top-of-the-rotation starter, but we don't need that right now...we just need someone fairly competent. I say give Floyd a couple starts and then see what Broadway has.
  22. QUOTE(Maverick0984 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:26 AM) I'm definitely disappointed Mack is gone I am as well. I loved getting him and felt giving up the talented, though enigmatic, Marte was a good move for both Pitt and Chicago. I thought Marte needed a change of scenary and Mack was coming home to be a roving utility player, giving us options at 2nd, 3rd and the OF. Then Mack was misused last year before being dealt for a single A relief pitcher (not even a prospect) this year. To trade a guy that is playing well that costed us a major league (and solid) pitcher for a nothing A ball player simply defies logic.
  23. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:46 PM) Jack Egbert had a good month. 3-1, 1.50 ERA, 30 IP, 24 H, 5 R, 7 BB, 41 K Unless Sisco suddenly morphs into Randy Johnson or Lance Broadway continues his improvement, I bet Egbert gets a Sept callup and gets a few starts. We've done this with AA pitchers before. I believe Mark Buehrle never spent a day in AAA.
  24. Very sad. I was following his comeback this year and there was a period of time that I thought he'd get it back. Like others have said, he was inideed a terrific prospect. Unfortunately, the injuries just took their toll on him. Whatever the case, best wishes to Kris in the future.
