  1. Boston Globe reporting Dye for Pena + pitching prospect is possible. I say we table this and look for better offer. I don't know much about some of the names I've seen
  2. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:45 AM) I think that this would preclude us from dealing with the Braves now, but definitely sets the market very high for top line talent. I agree totally that the Braves are out of play for us...and now that the Braves have set the ball in motion maybe we will see some more reasonable offers for players we have on the blocks.
  3. It looks like Texas is taking Matt Harrison. Harrison is a terrific terrific prospect, but recently experienced some shoulder problems (tests reveal he is Ok, but I hate seeing AA players with shoulder issues).
  4. Depending on who those other two pitching prospects are, I think Atlanta gave up quite a bit. No doubt, Teixera is probably the games best defensive first baseman, a very good hitter, this certainly does fill a position of need for Atlana, and they didn't give up anyone playing any prominent role on the current Atlanta team. However, 4 players...2 of them at least highly thought of is a big package.
  5. You knew someone would get Salty. I wonder what the two prospects are. That is quite a haul for Teixera, who is a really good player, but that is a boatload to give up. Texas building for the future, smart deal for them, I think.
  6. Salty heading to Texas as part of huge trade involving Teixera.
  7. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 10:58 AM) For some reason I am getting the feeling they are going to resign Dye. Unless we have some deal worked out for a RF (Quentin, Ethier) then that wouldn't be the worst move one could make. A 2008 outfield of Pods, Owens, and Sweeney simply doesn't inspire.
  8. I would love for the D-Backs to get involved, they are loaded with prospects.
  9. My feeling is several teams are very interested in Dye, but are offering crap for him and Kenny (I hope) is telling those teams to go pound sand he'll keep Dye and take the two picks if he leaves after the year. The Angels, Red Sox, and even Dodgers are probably invovled. It looks like Williams wants two things for Dye: A relief pitcher (why the name Okijama and Turnbow came up) and probably a prospect to go with it. I wouldn't see, nor would I want to deal Dye for a setup guy knowing if we traded Dye we would become absolutely pathetic in RF as compared to what Dye is capable of.
  10. Kotchman (though I like) and Saunders wouldn't be enough to get Paulie from me. There are two other names, one of which added to those two would probably make me think.
  11. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) Minnesota won a division title last season with guys like Jason Bartlett, Nick Punto, Luis Castillo, Shannon Stewart, Rondell White, Lew Ford, etc. How do you suppose they won it? all they had was a good bullpen? I can name some pretty good starting pitchers + other star players to go along with the bottom 7 of the Twins active roster you named.
  12. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) Fair enough. Just don't see much of a point in speculating about something that will not happen. It's what baseball fans of teams going nowhere do: We sit around and opine about how we can get the 4 best prospects in baseball while giving up our junk. No, I don't think Bucholz is anywhere near available. He's can't miss, but it's like Christmas morning...you just KNOW Santa is gonna bring you the big red fire engine and usually you get one that is very small and doesn't make those cool sirene noises.
  13. We have a shortstop who can't hit or run, no catching prospect anywhere near the majors, one of the worst outfields in baseball, very little in the minors in the way of true prospects and people are talking about middle relief?
  14. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) The Red Sox would not give up Bucholz for Buehrle. What in the WORLD makes you think they would move him for Dye? Where do I say I THINK they would make this deal (or any deals)? I was just speculating on potential combinations of players to get Bucholz. I guess if we offered Buehrle, Jenks, Konerko, Gio, and 3 players to be named later they still would not trade Bucholz, because afterall he is proven to being the next Tom Seaver.
  15. Not a problem Frankie. I am intrigued by Pelfrey and Gomez and even Milledge, but Pelfrey has been awful when he pitches in the show, so I'd argue to get Garland it would cost Pelfrey + Gomez or Milledge.
  16. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 02:18 PM) I agree we should get alot if we trade Garland, especially to an NL team. In the National league JG would really excel. Hey do you have a link to this latest rumor? It's here. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines
  17. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) Pitchers are always gonna command a greater price. Linebrink has had a solid year. Dye has had a terrible year. I understand about the draft picks regarding Iguchi and Dye. All I am saying is "I" don't believe any team is gonna give up any kind of "TOP" prospects for Dye. I say hold onto him and take the draft picks ourselves if we don't sign him next year. I do agree with keeping Dye if we don't get a credible offer. Damn right there. I am not in favor of dealing JD just to deal him. We get prospects or we wait. There is also an idea that he returns to us next year in RF. We have no one even close to being ready to take up for what gives us. Fields, even if he moved to RF, probably will be well under Dye's average and well under his defense (especially since Fields has never played a day in Right). If we keep him and he bolts via FA then we take the extra picks. I am fine with the following scenarios 1-Keep Dye, resign Dye 2-Keep Dye, he goes away, we get 2 picks 3-Trade Dye for quality prospects. I am not in favor of 4-Trading Dye for crap. You don't think we can get quality prospects for him. If you are right, then we should stick with options 1 and 2 above.
  18. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) I think Seattle will take Contrearas and hope for the best in the big park. Desperation will set in. I think KW eats about $5M a year and takes Weaver for the remainder of the season for a decent prospect. Are you saying we trade a decent prospect for Jeff Weaver?
  19. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 01:58 PM) so you just ignore your biggest weakness to shore up other parts of the team? look if KW was only looking at only bullpen help and nothing more id agree with you....but i have zero problem with him looking to bolster the pen, why do you? Kenny already bolstered the pen and failed at it. Wasn't that the purpose of obatining Massett, Aardsma, Sisco... The problem with going after more middle relievers is what do you deal for them? You prepared to give up Gio Gonzalez for Chad Qualls? I'm not.
  20. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) I understand this, but to think Dye is gonna bring back a teams top prospects, it's just not gonna happen. We are better off like you said in holding on to him and taking the picks. If we want someone elses top prospects we need to trade either Garland or Vazquez or Jenks, those players would bring back the greatest packages of prospects. And supposedly, the Mets are now in on Garland. Rotoworld said it would cost Pelfrey, Milledge, or Gomez...if we don't get 2 of those, then we don't trade. A one for one Garland for Milledge is a joke. Pelfrey and Milledge for Garland then we talk.
  21. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) The Cubs might think about a Dye for Murton trade, but they will never give up Marmol, unfortunately. I tend to agree with you, which is why any rumors involving Marmol I just kinda pass on over.
  22. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 01:59 PM) Why would the Phillies even think about doinf this trade?? Dye will not get you either Bourne or Ellsbury or Bucholz. Dye will get you Wily Mo and maybe another prospect but that's about it. He is a two month rental, people aren't gonna give up top prospects for rental players, let alone give them up for players that are having bad years. Alot of people on here were shocked at what little we got for Iguchi. I have a feeling people are gonna be REALLY shocked if we trade Dye and see what we get. This was responded to better earlier, but this idea about 2-month rentals not getting anything is bogus, considering the Padres just obtained 3 solid (not spectacular) prospects for a 2-month rental MIDDLE relief pitcher. The Iguchi deal on the surface was bogus, but still isn't the same as Dye. Iguchi would not warrant compensation such that Dye would in the term of draft picks, so you are arguing apples v. oranges. And my hypothetical about Ellsbury or Bucholz had the Red Sox getting Dye + 2 prospects (one from Chicago, one from Philly) for Pena and Ellsbury or Bucholz. Certainly, not obscene. If the BoSox don't want to trade either just because they don't fine, but the value isn't that far off for kids who have virtually no major league experience.
  23. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 01:51 PM) I would deal Dye to the Cubs in a second, if they were offering Carlos Marmol in return. The kid is a stud, and he is just getting better. Dye is having a terrible year, he has turned it up a little since the ASB, but still if we could get Marmol, I would do that in a New York minute DO Marmol and Murton and you got a deal.
  24. QUOTE(joeynach @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) One of the best ways to build a ballclub is to amass quality arms in the pen and then build from there. You get enough quality arms in the pen you have a good bullpen, some become starters and replenish your rotation and you move on from there. I respect your perspective, but I just don't agree with it. Quite often bullpen guys are guys not good enough to start. Why build from a position such as this? I'd rather build with starters, even if not at the major league level. You can always flip a starter into a relief pitcher or position player. You can't always do that with relief pitchers (unless you're San Diego.) I've never seen a crappy relief pitcher all of a sudden become a good starter, but we've seen plenty of crappy starters become fairly decent relief pitchers. RP is a bit like Kicker and Punter in football...at one time we didn't really need the position.
  25. Even though I like Richar, I was not happy with this deal. I thought Cunningham could develop and was becomming a pretty nice prospect for the Sox. I also like Chris Getz and I don't see why Richar is so so much better than he is, although they are at different stages. I felt like we really needed to find a SS, because we have jackcrap there...Lopez and Valido don't appear to be prospects anymore...one of the reasons I really liked talking to the Dodgers (about Hu).
