  1. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) The problem is that Boston won't give up either of them, not that they won't give up both. I don't believe that. They would deal either in the right package. Everyone seems to be in the business of over-rating their prospects to drive up the costs, because no matter how good a guy looks in AAA, sometimes they look quite ordinary in the show (see Brian Anderson). I believe we could get one of them.
  2. Any deal involving Houston relievers makes little sense unless we trade them some of our own relievers. Any trades the Sox make should be with an eye toward the future. Dealing for Lidge/Wheeler or whoever would likely cost us one of the few remaining prospects we still have left.
  3. If there is anyway we could get Michael Bourne (from Philly) + Ellsbury or Bucholz (from Boston) in this deal I'd absolutely love that. Maybe something like this -we get Bourne, Phillies prospect (if we deal B. Anderson), Bucholz or Ellsbury for Dye, Owens/Anderson, prospect (P or OF prospect) -Boston gets Dye + White Sox prospect (P or OF prospect) + Phillies prospect for Mo Pena and Bucholz/Ellsbury -Phillies get Mo Pena + Jerry Owens/Brian Anderson for Michael Bourne + prospect (if Anderson is the offer) I'd like to see a way the White Sox could get both Ellsbury and Bucholz, but I can't imagine the Red Sox would deal both of them, considering it's not likely they even deal one. Bourne and Ellsbury would be 2/3 of our new Outfield. Neither have a lot of power, so we'd really need to push for a power hitting OF to play either LF or RF. Either that or I wonder what it would take for the Red Sox to deal us Ellsbury + Pena and we do another deal to get Bourne. An OF of Ellsbury, Bourne, and Pena looks pretty good to me. But what would that cost? Probably something like Dye, Anderson, Sweeney, Broadway. If we were to get Bourne, Ellsbury, and Pena then Sweeney and Anderson become expendable. Keep in mind we also have Josh Fields who potentially could move to LF, not to mention a couple nice OF prospects in our AA and A ball. I think we'd have our OF set for the future and also have the required speed up top. We keep Grinderstad to teach the kids how to grind, find a shortstop who can hit over .220 and run a little bit and go for the fooking records.
  4. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) I guarantee Richar is less than impressive. Has he even been called up yet? EDIT: NM, it pays to read the entire thread. Anyone know anything about his fielding skill set? How can you gurantee this?
  5. If Dye doesn't bring at least two very good prospects then something is wrong. The Padres got 3 pretty decent prospects for a middle relief rental. Seems to me we could get something even better for a player like Dye, a solid right-fielder who can hit you a solid .300, with 30+ homer potential, is a good clubhouse guy.
  6. QUOTE(phillychuck @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 09:54 AM) From a phlllies fan: We're actually speculating that Williams felt guilty about pawning off an injured Freddy Garcia on the Phils and made this trade out of some feelings of guilt... Now that you mention it, this could be a very real possibility, but Gavin Floyd stinks. Still, Freddy is injured and the Sox got a pretty close to top of the line prospect for him (Gio). This way, the relationship between the two remains intact.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) Sometimes I'm just taken aback by the inflammatory, knee jerk reactions of Sox fans. It's disturbing. Just because a player was on the World Series team doesn't mean they have good trade value. It's not just a player on a WS team, but a quality, professional big league player....we basically gave him away. This dude is in LOW single-A. WHat the hell kind of idiot trade is this? Meanwhile, the Padres got 3 prospects (to be honest all of them are lukewarm prospects, but two are in high minor ball and doing well) for a middle relief rental. If the Brewers can get 3 prospects (2 of them in the high minors, 1 of them now heading to the majors) for a middle relief rental, I'd like to think we could get better than a marginal A-ball prospect for Iguchi. Bottom line is Williams got lucky to win the WS in 2005..."he" won it because of 4 great starting pitchers, a few good hitters, and some heady play. Overall however, the guy isn't that good. If he was, we wouldn't be battling KC for last and we wouldn't be starring at more years of this garbage.
  8. ERA is almost 4 in A...can you say, NOTHING? This dude isn't even a prospect. Good job Williams...you just gave a away a professional quality 2nd basemen for jack crap. Dude got lucky to win it in 2005, he's an arrogant ass.
  9. What a damn joke...get Williams out of here before he completes his dismanteling of this entire franchise. What a horrific trade. This kid will never see the light of day in Chicago, he's barely a marginal prospect. FOOLISH. This is worse than what Hawk did in the mid 1980s.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) I think Hawk actually died during the world series parade, and this is a robot. IF (INNINGS=4;HITS= GOTO PITCHING PITCHING: IF WALKS=>2;goto "TEACUP_AND_YELL" REPEAT 10 TIMES; GOTO UMPS IF SOX RUNS ECHO "GABNUBIT, AL KALINE, MERCY, STRETCH" Funniest post I've read in years. SouthsideIrish is simply badass.
  11. I am in disbelief over the prospects the Padres got for Linebrink. Linebrink is a rental middle relief guy and the Brewers dealt up 3 pretty nice prospects for him. Why can't we make a move like this?
  12. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 12:18 AM) If the Mets are looking to acquire a 2B, it's going to be Orlando Hudson. Arizona wants either Milledge/Gomez and Pelfrey in return. IMO Hudson isn't worth that price. I would wonder why Arizona would need OFs...they already have 3 or 4 of the best young OFs in the game...one of the reasons they may shop Quentin or C.Young.
  13. Paulie isn't and shouldn't go anyway. However, if the Angels do want to talk, they should come to the table with 3 top prospects, either in the high minors or even on the major team (Kotchman).
  14. I watch the Sox because 1-I love baseball, it is my favorite sport by far 2-I love the White Sox, they are my favorite team by far 3-Even if the White Sox suck really bad, if I watch them, then I am still partaking in #1 and #2
  15. I'd question signing two nice, solid players having career years facing a contract. both will regress next year, mark it down. That being said, for a good price I'd love to get A-Ro back. We have no CF of any real value.
  16. Contrary to what a lot of posters have said about Owens, I do believe he has earned his right to stay. I'd love to get Richar up at some point, he's been doing very well in AAA. Gonzalez is a guy that should be scuttled out.
  17. Put Salty in there and we can talk, but Renteria for JG straight up does very little to help this franchise. Sure, we get a bit better at the top of the order, but downgrade in pitching.
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) End the Dewon Day experiment. Please...and the Gonzalez experiment
  19. I'd love to get Hu, but I don't think Jose will get it done. Had he been pitching worth a damn maybe...Hu is a future MLB SS easily.
  20. It would be nice if our franchise was good enough with enough good talent at all levels that we wouldn't have to be contemplating taking advantage (raiding) of a 'less fortunate' franchise.
  21. Sox fans are indeed a strange lot. I thought this season was in the books, but here is a thread discussing the possibility (though slight) of the Sox making the post-season. Damn, I love baseball.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) No way he'd ever get support from either party. He actually accomplishes things. Yea I hear you. What I really meant was Kenny often says one thing, but is plotting another course of action. The two (public office and being the GM for a baseball team) can't really be juxtaposed, because there is a certain amount of 'deceit' in baseball and we all understand that reality. In politics. Nevermind.
  23. Kenny Williams should run for political office.
  24. Easily the happiest moment for me of this dreadful season. Kinda like watching Gale Sayers run the football in the late 1960s/early 1970s...the team was dreadful, but among the junk was something VERY special. Thumbs up to Mark....been my favorite player and thankfully will remain so.
  25. The only Starter I would want to trade is Jose and he has no value. Vazquez looks like he is starting to put it together. Two straight CGs in this day and age is pretty solid.
