QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 07:07 PM) Haha -- yep, the Mets are going to give this up for a little more than three months of Mark Buehrle. We'll be lucky to get two of those. Yea maybe, but Mark Buehrle could be the final piece to a World Title...if they think a rotation of Buehrle, Glavine, Maine, Perez and maybe even Pedro (with El Duque in there) can win it all they may deal a kings ransom to get Buehrle. Still a risk, but they also may know that Buehrle could end up with a rival in the NL.

Aaron Cunningham Traded to Zona for IF Danny Richar

I personally don't like the deal. Just MHO -
After the Sox get taken by Pittsburgh while not even facing Ian Snell or Gorzelanny we can let this thread die. Critical stretch? ... the only thing critical about this team is how bad it is.

Who are some options for us at SS in 2008
kwolf68 replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Yes, Wilson had a magical career year in 2004...a year that he will one day tell his grandkids about. He hit .308, with 8 Steals, and 11 homers. That was the far peak for Wilson. In truth, Wilson is at best a .270 hitter with sub 10 homer and 10 steal ability. I don't have a good read on his defense, but I don't believe it to be better than Uribe. Lets get that SS prospect from the Dodgers and be done with it. -

Jack Wilson has no use on our team. Hell, he has no use on Pittsburgh, he is over-paid and provides very average ability all across the board. If we move Uribe out of the 6 hole then I want someone who can steal a base or two. -
Id do all three this very moment...trouble is finding those compromising photos to force the other teams to do it.

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
kwolf68 replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
If we trade for Adam Dunn I will go over to Kenny Williams house and take a poop in his mailbox. -
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 06:03 PM) He hit .340 -- which is particularly useful, since he refuses to take walks. Even hitting .340 (.340!!!), his obp was only .365. His minor league batting average was only .278. There are few stats that scream "fluke" more loudly. He may be a .300 hitter. But no better than that. He never steals bases, can't take a walk, but he does have a bit of power for a second baseman. All in all, he's a okay bat for the position and the price, but he's nothing close to his press clippings. I'd like the Sox to have him, but the more I think about it, the more I hope they'll do better elsewhere. Anyone who can hit .340 deserves any kudos they get. Cano' is a great hitter and will be .300 by the end of this season. I doubt he is available anyway. I will agree with you on a couple things...I like a 2nd basemen who can walk and run some. I still want to see Chris Getz get called up to AAA as he has uncanny strikezone ability and can also run a little bit. Not saying he is the guranteed future for us at 2nd base, but he provides some reason to be optimistic that he could be ready if we keep Tad for 2008.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 06:00 PM) Those lists are flat wrong. The system has really gotten a lot better as new guys have stepped up (Russell, Egbert, Gio, Floyd (if you count him a prospect), De Los Santos, Carter, Getz, etc). Getz shows nice promise, I like him personally, but he's only being projected as a utility guy, not a surefire 2nd basemen (again I doubt that, I think the kid can play). DLS and Carter are too far out to project. However, every single team (to include the Cardinals) have a few nice spects. The problem is, prospects most often don't make it, so if you have only 5 or 6, you are swinging a short stick. I think our minor league system is in trouble. Yes, there is promise there (as you alluded to), but it's few and far between and our guys when called up look like hacks. Outside of pitchers (Jenks is the first to come to mind), I can't remember the last time we called up a minor league position player and he didn't look like a hack. And now Sweeney, Fields, and Anderson...our current three best positional prospects simply don't inspire so far. Anderson is back in AAA hitting just above .250, Fields has been terrible with the bat so far (I know its early)...Sweeney has been looking very good lately but isn't bringing 5-tool talent to the table (his power is suspect for a corner OF and he doesn't run much). I love what I hear about some of our AA and high A players (Getz, Collero, Cunningham, Gio) but it is still way off for most of those guys. Russell and Egbert don't have overly impressive strikeout numbers. the numbers are solid, but nothing earth-shattering. Egbert and Russell are looking like our 2nd and 3rd best pitching prospects. In many of the top organizations they would be on the lower half of the Top 10....still nice prospects mind you, but not sure-fire, can't miss, his stuff is too good to believe.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) I doubt that the Sox could do better for Buehrle than getting Reyes and another B prospect. I think people here are in for a big disappointment in the return Buehrle brings. That is absurd. For a chance to win it all now, many teams would give the White Sox 3 prospects. In truth, players of Buehrle's stature are rarely dealt (see OP), but when they are dealt the returns are huge. there is no way in hell the Sox would get just Reyes and a B-prospect for Buehrle. You could go to any team in baseball near about and get at least two A prospects.

Im still trying to figure out why the Diamondbacks needed Chris Young last year...They have Carlos Gonzalez, Carlos Quentin, Alex Romero, Justin Upton, Scott Hairston, Cyle Hankerd, Alex Romero, Gerrardo Parra...many of them elite prospects. Why add Young into that mix? I'd like to go back over there and nab some of the DBacks talent, their minor league system looks so loaded.
-
I've seen several lists that are very current...about half of them have the Cards above the Sox, and half below. The White Sox minor league system is now safely among the 6 or 7 worst as is the Cardinals.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) Why? Every year there's a Grudz, Aurilia, Cairo, who'll hit and be passable defensively, who won't demand a king's ransom. Why would the bottomless money pit that is the Yankees be so obsessed in holding onto a 2b just because he's cheap and has above-average pop? Cano' is projected to compete for batting championships. The fact he is cheap never enters the mind of Yankee brass, but the sheer talent of the player. Didn't he hit something like .330 last year? He's going nowhere.

Realistic Best/Worst Case Scenerios for 2007?
kwolf68 replied to rangercal's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) Ok. Thanks. I'll just stop watching now. You can still watch your favorite team play while being realistic about their situation. This team stinks. It's old, it's laborious, and it lacks talent. We can even debate if the manager is able to maximize their potential, but even assuming Ozzie is Herzog V 2.0 there is no chance this team catches Detroit or Cleveland...right now we are in the sights of the Royals. Yep, the KC Royals. I will continue to watch...for a few reasons 1-I love baseball 2-I am a White Sox fan 3-I want to see reasons to be optimistic for next year by way of developing players (Fields, Terrero, Sweeney, etc) However, no team with the crew we have playing is going to make the playoffs. This season is cooked. I am at peace with that...time to rebuild our organization and give our program a new look. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 04:34 AM) He was the DBacks top prospect in 2002; does that help answer some questions? And guess who was the Diamondbacks best prospects in 2001? Yeppers...Alex Cintron.

Realistic Best/Worst Case Scenerios for 2007?
kwolf68 replied to rangercal's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There is absolutely no chance this team makes the playoffs. None. .500 is possible I guess, but my best case scenario is 86-90 losses. -
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) so what im asking is, would you be willing to trade buerhle garland contreras and vazquez...clearly not..but how many of them, or what combo of them would you trade? I would not want to trade BOTH Buehrle and Garland...but would trade BOTH Jose and Javy. I'd probably trade 3 of the 4 (saving Mark or Jon) if pressed, but would rather get out of deals involving Jose and Buehrle (since he is the logical choice, although Id rather keep him).

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) I still think they might give up Cano for something they really need, and the Sox could include Iguchi to fill in this year. I'd be utterly amazed if the Yankees gave up Cano'. Utterly amazed.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) Not interested in Reyes. I'm not so much myself, but he scores out as one of their top 3 pitching prospects. In short, I don't think the Cards minor leagues is in any better shape than our own. Putting a deal together with St.Louis will be tough...if they had the Angels or Dodgers minor league system no doubt we could get something done, because the minor league depth of the two LA teams is amazing and they could easily part with elite prospects to bring in a stud like Mark B.
-
Every single player on our team, in our organization should be made available if another team has a true desire to bring in said player. My personal players to keep are: Paulie, Buehrle, AJP, Jenks, Danks Still...if someone wanted any of those above we should listen. And with Buehrle's contract sitation I suggest he will be made available in a blockbuster at some point.

QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) LF Owens 2B Cintron DH Thome 1B Gonzalez RF Machowiak CF Terrero C Hall SS Uribe 3B Fields That'll do.
-
Thanks guys....playing anyone over Fields at this point is ridiculous. We allowed Robin Venture to begin his career (I think) with a 0 for 41 slump and we hung with him. At this point we aren’t going anywhere and we need to find out if Fields is a guy who can be a future 3rd basemen. Does our organization believe in Fields? If so, let the kid play. He stinks right now, but like I said Robin Ventura also did at one time and he figured it out.
-
Did I just read where Ozzie said he may play Andy Gonzalez over Fields at 3rd base? I think that's an atrocious move if it did happen.
-
Of those names, Luis has impressed me the most, followed by Sweeney. Fields and Owens don't look like they even belong on the big club, although Josh's defense has been a pleasant surprise.
